View Full Version : Okay, so now what did you get from him?
Chad got me orchestra seat tickets to RENT!!! It's coming to Houston and Adam Pascal & Anthony Rapp are actually in their former roles. We'll be staying in a hotel in the theatre district that we stayed in the night after our wedding. I'm so excited! I'm a big Rent fan; we even incorporated a Rent song into our wedding ceremony.
So what did y'all get for Valentine's Day? We went ahead and exchanged gifts this morning since we both have to go to work in a few hours, but I know that most of you might be waiting until a bit later on. I can't wait to hear about it! :D

Holy Moly! I would LOVE to go see Rent, you are a lucky gal! I just told Matt that you are getting to go, and his reply was that he actually had looked into that for me, but it isn't playing around here any time soon :(
Can't wait to hear how it is, don't forget to tell us when you go!

So far I have just gotten a card. Which is good enough for me. It was very sweet. But I think we will be having dinner tonight. Our son is staying at MIL's house tonight.

FH and I had Valentine's last night, since his band is playing tonight. I got tickets to see James Taylor ten days after the wedding!! I'm so excited. He seems to be going with concert tickets every Valentines since I got Tom Petty tickets last year. I also got a red rose and some champagne. My son gave me a beautiful scarf and a Hello Kitty bank for my desk at work (with FH's help, of course).

My FH got me a card, a big teddy bear, some "Happy Valentine's Day" and "I Love You" balloons, and a bouquet of flower that has a dozen red roses and 6 white carnations. :) Also, he worked the night shift last night and he works it again tonight, so when he wakes up in a couple of hours, we'll be going to dinner together before he has to go into work at 6.

Ummm. So far, just some morning love. We're going over to his friend's house later tonight to make sushi with him and his wife and another couple. We'll probably all play Wii for a little bit and then towards the end of the night we're going to stop by our local grocery for a bottle of wine or champage, listen to records, and just enjoy each other's company.

Believe it or not. I got NOTHING. :bbeek:
No card, no flowers, no choccies, no romantic meal, zilch.
I bought DH a gushy card which is still unopened on the mantlepiece.
And DH is now flat out asleep on the sofa.
No, We haven't had an arguement.
DH went to work at Stupid O'Clock this morning and left His Wallet on the side. So He had no money on Him to get anything. All the Local Restaurants are fully booked. Plus the time DH got home from work He was too knacked to do anything.
Just another day. Back to work tomorrow.

FH got me these really comfy slippers - they look like a shag carpet though! He knows I'm all about nesting...:)
The card was the BEST though...basically he bought a card and he crossed out a lot of the words in it and replaced them, well, a few times - by crossing out all these funny answers before "deciding" on what he really wanted to write.
Here's what it said:
For my fiance
Knowing I'll be your wife (he crossed out wife and wrote lover, crossed that out and wrote man meat and then crossed that out and finally settled on "Hunk")
is the sweetest anticipation (he crossed out anticipation and wrote "reese's peanut butter cup") I've ever known.
From the moment I realized (crossed out realized, wrote speculated and crossed that out, wrote acknowledged and crossed that out - finally settled on "knew") we were meant to be, I couldn't wait for our "ever after" (crossed out ever after and wrote "Turn at Karoke") to begin.
You've made me so deeply happy (crossed out happy, wrote "horny", crossed that out, wrote "hungry", crossed that out, wrote "gassy", finally resettled on "happy"), filled me with so much passion and excitement (crossed out "passion and excitement" and wrote "chips and salsa", crossed that out and wrote "wine and liquor" and crossed that out and wrote "thankfulness and passion") and this is just the beginning (but he crossed out beginning and wrote middle).
My dreams came true when you stepped into my world (crossed out world, wrote "law office", crossed out "law office" and wrote "daydream" and finally settled on "life"). I can't wait to be your wife (he crossed out wife and wrote husband, crossed that out and wrote "knight in shining armour", crossed that out and wrote "drinking buddy", crossed that out and wrote "contractual life partner"...before he finally wrote husband).
It totally made me laugh because it was SO funny. FH never usually gets me a card - usually a gift of some sort, but he never takes the time to write a card, nonetheless buy one and make it his own personal madlibs. Totally made me laugh...:)

We went to dinner at my favorite place (Famous Dave's). Not too romantic, but better than eating here with his parents (not that that's bad, but it's not a Valentine's date). We also went to the Dollar Tree, where there were people buying gifts... last minute and cheap... nice. We got our wedding bubbles there, which I was excited about.
And then after him saying we'd have a totally "us" night, we're back home, watching hockey while his niece is upstairs, stomping and screaming (his parents are watching her).
I'm thinking about going to bed.
We normally don't exchange gifts or anything, but we do go out to dinner. :)

We went out to dinner, just the two of us, for some alone/together time. That's been at a premium lately, so it was very nice to just be with him and not have any other demands on us. We had a leisurely dinner and dessert(a berry, pound cake and marscapone tiramisu that was fabulous) and it was really nice to spend that time and not have to rush or worry.
He got me a small heart-shaped box of chocolates, which made me teary because nobody else ever got me one and I have wanted to get a heart shaped box of chocolates my entire life. And no, he didn't tell me beforehand -- it was a spur of the moment thing for him to do! Sometimes I can be dumb and romantic that way.
Tomorrow I'm going to go get him a nice card. He appreciates words like that, in a way, more than he appreciates gestures.
I bought myself a pair of teeny-weeny emerald and diamond earrings off of Ebay, but those are more by way of being a wedding jewelry thing than anything else -- they're going to match the teeny-weeny (but cute! and high quality) diamond and emerald heart pendant he gave me for Christmas the first year we were dating. I'm going to wear them together for the rehearsal. And I got the earrings for less than $20 including shipping, especially considering that the seller had other earrings that were the same listed as Buy It Now for $40 plus $8 shipping. I have no worries about the quality or whether they're genuine or not, they'll come with a certificate and all that. Sometimes, if you're patient and willing to wade through the tonnes of utter foolishness that people list on Ebay, you can find the good stuff :)

well, fh and i agreed 5 years ago on ALL valentines day gifts/budgets. We dont care for the holiday and dont like the idea of sharing our love time with everyone else in the world on the same day :) We each have this "cheesy stuffed animal" rule where we have to buy each other one of those singing vday animals and then of course we are allowed flowers or chocolate and a card. but no no no gifts..although his biggest gift to me was sitting down and helping order a couple wedding things :)
However, each and every year, my brother asks me to be his valentine, as does my dad, and they are allowed to give me gifts hahah!!! From bro, i got a movie and a flower and a card. From dad i dont know yet cuz i didnt make it down there tonight, but i know flowers, chocolate and a card so far. cuz he told me that much haha
Yesterday was the dating anniversary of 5 years though for fh and i, so we did celebrate that, I got my pearl ring to match the set i got for xmas (he didnt think i would want a pearl ring !!! silly boy!!) he also made me an awesome dinner and we went for ice cream at this old fashioned ice cream parlour down by the beaches.

Sounds like everyone had a ball, that's so great!! ^_^ We were at the zoo yesterday with my family but that was a family celebration!
We don't really do gifts, but this year we decided to donate money to the Red Cross Bushfire appeal instead of doing anything... There have been some really devastating fires in southern Australia and a lot of people are dead or homeless :(

We didn't do presents this year. We usually go out to dinner, but we went to his parents house Saturday morning, so we didn't do that either. But that's okay. I don't really mind. I told him I didn't want anything. I'd rather both of us save our money, cause we really want to move out of this apartment and find a townhouse or something.

My Fiance and I went out to dinner.
We decided that with the wedding coming up and our 6 year anniversary next month we werent going to exchange gifts. Which was fine with me, I'd rather have that money spent on our wedding.. :0)
I couldn't resist though and bought him a card. lol

We went out to eat on Thursday. Chinese. :D
I worked Saturday. It sucked. lol
We went to my hubby's family's where he did yardwork with his uncle and mother, and I stayed in the house and chatted with his cousin. My back was killing me that day and I couldn't help in the yard :(
He got me a balloon that is 3 hearts connected and each one has a word of "I Love You" on it. I have a pic of it but it's too blurry to post... I didn't get him anything *yet*. I have to go grocery shopping, but I think I'll cook him his favorite meal (which he confirmed last week) and maybe get him a mushy card or something.

We spent all morning Saturday traipsing (is that spelled correctly?) around an 8 acre property we're both in love with but probably won't be able to afford. :) We went out for a late lunch on Sunday. We're not big V-Day people.

I got a bag of hershey kisses and a garbage can. LOL
The hershey kisses I get every year. Our first date was on valentine's day and he got me a card the the kisses. So he just continues that tradition, which is fine with me.
The garbage can, poor DH got picked on so much when he bought it (he was out with friends.) But I have been wanting a NICE stainless garbage can for 2 years now. But I wont' bring myself to spend the money when the $5 plastic one I have is working just fine. But I always tell him, if he needs a gift idea, he can get me though. So I was so excited to see he finally got me one!!

As i mentioned in my other post, I got a dozen sweetheart roses at work, then a dozen for home too! On Saturday we went to a museum, then weent on to an Irish cultural center and then lunch at a german restaurant. I bought him some chocolate covered fortune cookies and a case of beer from around the world, and thanks to someone's advice on here I think, I got him a sex pack of Moose Something or other (drool maybe?) It's a dark beer. He doesn't like any of the light stuff.
Than later that night we busted out the fondue pot and had marshmallows, graham crackers, strawberries and bananas dipped in chocolate. The we sat there and watched comedy central, can't remember the comedians name but his show was called LOVE IS EVOL!!! FH laughed so hard he had tears running down his face. It was a great evening!!!
