For those of you with allergies (sneezing, stuff, itchy eyes, etc); what do you do for treatment?

Me; for a while I pretty much just suffered through it cause it wasn't that bad. Then it got bad and I would take OTC meds a lot; then most of them stopped working, so I stopped taking them.
I have tried Rx drugs like Zyrtec and Allegra and they only half work. Recently I started taking the OTC version of Zyrtec again; since it doesn't work for me as long as it is suppose to, my Dr said i can try a dose of Benadryl later in the day on top of the Zyrtec. So I have been doing that for the past several days and it seems to be working pretty well; I still wake up feeling pretty cr@ppy, but once the morning Zyrtec kicks in I am ok.
I am trying to avoid the triggers as much as I can for as much as much as I know at least. I probably need to go have a blood test or that scratch test, but I really don't want to. Since I don't want to do the shot therapy right now I don't really see the point. I am pretty sure I am allergic to pollen and such outside and it has to be dust and/or mold inside, so I do my best to lessen that as much as I can.
I have thought about trying some herbs, but not sure what would work. I want to get an air purifier for the house too, but they are expensive. Anyone have one that works well for them?

I suffer allergies year round, but come April I get them horribly.
So far the things that work for me are: Tylenol Sinus (I take it in the morning whether I need it or not) most of the time, I don't get the really awful headaches, but when I do, they are minimized by taking the Tylenol ahead of time.
During the winter I have different allergies. My pharmacist told me to be CAREFUL with what I take, and if I am dry, not to take any medication that dries you out further and if I am not dry to get the kind of medication for that. So I have my winter and summer meds :bbeek:
When it gets really bad, I take a hot wash cloth and put it over my nose and mouth. Seems to help a lot.
I also have a humidfier that I got for about $20.00. You don't use medicaiton in this one, just add water and plug it in. It lasts all night and helps also.
I also have a face hydrator (don't know the proper name for it) that makes a hot mist and you put your face directly on it.
When I am really in pain, I do all of these steps. Otherwise I do the first and third daily.

I get weekly allergy shots, and i have a daily inhaler and an emergency inhaler for when it gets really bad. I'll also take over the counter meds when it gets bad.. Mostly generics.

The asthma actually developed from my allergies and one too many chronic sinus infections that i didn't get to the docs for in time.. >.<

I have year round allergies. I mostly handle it with Tylenol sinus and when I get a really bad headache I take moltrin on top of that. I have mild asthma, so I have an inhaler for when I need it.

I ususally try to stick to the more "natural" type of cures. When my sinuses are bothering me, I put a few drops of eucalyptus oil under my nostrils. Clears 'em right up...but I'd recommend having some kleenex on hand if you're going to try this out. Also have used a Neti pot in the past, but the "salts" irritate the inside of my nose if I use it too frequently.
Otherwise I take Benadryl. My doctor recommended the liquid kind because it starts working faster than the pills, although it doesn't last as long.
I also have an inhaler, but it's from asthma caused by chronic bronchitis.:whyme:

I'm not sure about the liver disease thing. You are probably right. I don't take the Tylenol except for in April, when I get really bad. And at that time, I wouldn't care if someone shot me to put me out of my misery :bawling:
The humidifier works really well. I picked it up at Walgreens for $20.00. Only problem I have is that if I am already in pain, it won't work, but it works great if I have it running all night, I don't get so bad in the mornings.
Mine are also sinus, which causes alot of teeth/gum pain and my nasal passages on the side of my nose hurt something fierce. I also get earaches from it too.

I get the sinus thing sometimes too, yeah it is no fun.
We have a whole house humidifier thing that we use in the winter, but I don't really know if it helps as much as the kind you keep in your room.

Acupressure most of the time. Hot compresses. Claritin when the trees are blooming. Golden rod and rag weed eat me up. Fresh mown hay. I can't hug my dad or brother after they have cut hay. I try to limit my exposure to medicine so that when I need it, it will work.

I'm a seasonal allergy sufferer. The worst time is in the spring, when the trees start to pollinate. I usually will take Sudafed and Aspirin. I sometimes drink herbal tea and that helps a little bit. My grandma used to make me tea with alphalphaand a lot of sugar. I can't remember if it helped or not. I loooooooooove spring, the colors, the weather, but I am not looking forward to sneezing, sinus pressure, and my eyes watering.

Its not so bad. *^^*I feel a lot better now than i did when we didn't know i had asthma. I remember sitting out on the porch in my PJs in winter because i was so sinused up i couldn't breath.. it was the only thing to open me up enough my eyes didn't water so much. >.<
As long as you go to the doctor when you feel sick (specially with your lungs/coughing!) it should be ok. :chimp:
