View Full Version : What are you doing for HIM???
What are you doing for your man for Valentine's day?
I want to figure out something special, unique, and that doesn't cost much money - since we're buying a house and he's not allowed to buy me anything. I need ideas ladies!!

We don't usually do anything special for the "halmark holiday" ;) But I will make him a card

I usually just give him a card and candy and make him a special supper.
I like the idea of cooking him something special. I always cook for him - and usually it's something a little different and out of the ordinary, but I think I'll ask him 'nonchalantly' what his absolute favorite meal is (besides mashed potatoes and spaghetti LOL).

Last year I made him a cd of songs that reminded me of our relationship from beginning to present tense.
Since we were friends first, I started out with a song that was about friendship turning into something more, then went through the songs that were special to us over the years.
Last year, I bought a heart shaped pizza and baked it and we had a picnic in the living room.
This year...IDK yet.

I think the heart shaped pizza is genius.. I saw that at Papa Murphys! That CD idea is awsome!

Ugh...I usually love Valentines, it's always been my favorite holiday, but this year I'm just not that into it. I am blaming it on the fact that this wedding is consuming my life. I guess I'm going to get FH a bottle of Greg Norman wine(he loves wine and Greg Norman, so I can't go wrong with that) and a new holster for his handgun. Not very romantic, but it's what he wanted.

This year we aren't buying each other gifts because of our financial situation but I did buy bacon, sausage & eggs when I went grocery shopping so that I could make him a nice big breakfast. If we eat breakfast its usually cereal so this will be a special treat for us. We are going to rent movies and just have the whole day to ourselves. We usually go out Saturday nights so it'll be nice with just the two of us.

We are getting a hotel room for the night and eating out or maybe in and watch movies and spend quality time since we have 3 children and really need it

I was thinking it'd be cute to write a little love letter, saying how excited I am to be getting married to him and how happy I am that we're together. It's sappy, of course, but I think he would love it. When we were in our apartment, I once taped a little note that just said "I love you!" (folded with his name on it, so it didn't show what it said) to the door before he got home from work, and he loved it.
Hmmm... I might do it.

LOL It doesn't sound romantic to you or I but I know my FH would love it if I bought him a holster or anything for his glock. That would make his day. :)

I already bought him his gift - a set of Bose headphones so that he can plug into his PA system and play all of his instruments without the sound consuming the entire house. (We really need that music building because I'm cramping his musical creativity)
We have decided to go to a Flyball Tournament on Saturday to check out the sport to see if our 2 youngest fur-kids might be trained to play. It looks really neat and since our dogs are such a big part of our life, this looks like a good hobby we could share as well as tire out the boys!
After the Flyball Tournament, I thought I might cook him dinner- Chicken and Dumplings which he loves and I have never made before. I guess I should start looking for a good recipe!

I would so do this - but he and I do that all the time to each other LOL. I don't think he'd find it out of the ordinary or especially special if I did this. I love the hotel idea - relaxing. We're supposed to be with family all day on Saturday  I'd have to do something either early or late.

That's where I got it. We just sat on the floor with the coffee table between us and had candles and beer.
It seems like the simple things are what really make it great.
We are going to our favorite smorgasboard ...........so goes the diet
in the past I've:
baked him a heart shaped cake
bought him a diamond earring
made him his favorite meal and decorated the bedroom with candles and rose petals
turned the living room into an island, complete with sand and pretended we were in Hawaii, drinks/food/leis, etc
that one was cool
I'm fresh out of ideas, so he said we'll just go to the Shady Maple
he's gotten me cards/balloons/flowers and stuffed animals already

I made him a card with all the love notes we've written eachother over the years. :) I'm also on a mission to find him 3 different kinds of beer that he can't find at the local liquor stores. There's a HUGE liquor store up the road so I'm hoping they carry the beer. Romantic heh? LOL

We're going over to one of his higher ups' houses to teach him and his wife how to make sushi. The guys set it up and I reminded DH yesterday that Saturday was Valentine's Day. So he said that we'd just go over there on Sunday.......but today he asked if it was okay if we went over there on Saturday after all, because they don't have plans. I had a really romantic night planned with a candlelit dinner and a yummy cake for dessert, a bottle of champagne, and his favorite record that we could put on and dance to. Looks like that plan just went right out the window.:( Giving cooking/non-cooking lessons it is.

DH went out today and bought some filet mignon; we're going to cook dinner together. :) The plan is to cook, eat, he'll probably have a captain & coke and I'll have some wine. Then we're going to rent a movie and RELAX! It's been a hectic week.
On our little anniversary getaway, he had some port with dinner. He absolutely loved it and I tried to get him the same kind, but the restaurant orders it privately from Portugal. :( They told me a comparable bottle of port to get. I also got him a set of specialty port sipping glasses.
We are celebrating on Sunday since we both work on Saturday. We're thinking about going to a local place that has bottomless mimosas for $10 per person with brunch. I'm going to try to surprise him and have a day of geocaching on our bikes. He's been wanting to start doing it and is sooo excited about a modern day treasure hunt. A stop by a book store and coffee shop along the way will probably happen too! We have a giftcard for the movies so that's something else that we might do.

In all honestly, I'm not a huge Valentine person. Although, this year, I've made an exception. With all thats going on with the house drama, I'm surprising FH tonight with hockey tickets, just so we can kinda de-stress and have some fun! Even though it was more of a "just because" thing, I guess I can count it as V-day too!

Oh man, I just found the sweetest card on my desk from DH and I haven't gotten him one yet! I was going out to lunch with my sister and planned to get one on the way home ... I feel bad for waiting till the last minute now :(

I am on duty all day today, so we have to be home all day/weekend (literally I can't leave the dorm until Monday at 7:30am lol) so we aren't really doing anything. Maybe we will do something Monday, we both have the day off that day (which is a rare treat for us). But I did give him a card I made with my cricut and made him from pancakes for breakfast.

We decided not to buy gifts this year. There is just sooo much going on in the next couple of months (March: my birthday & bridal shower, April: wedding, May: his birthday, honeymoon) that we decided it would just be too much.
We are however going to get dressed up and go have dinner at our favorite restraunt. It's the only day of the year that we treat ourselves to expensive food. ;)

I ended up making FH breakfast in bed, which was supposed to be a surprise. But after his Gramma called to say his mom needed to go to the hosiptal at 7 a.m., that kind of got ruined. So I ended up telling him my plan when he got home around 10 and he went back to 'sleep' so that I could make him heart shapped cinnamon rolls and mimosas.

We're going to Hard Rock Cafe tomorrow. We don't usually buy each other stuff for V-Day. We are saving every penny for our trip to Europe next year. Hubby keeps bringing up going out to eat; he's really excited about it. I am too. We really like spending time together and we have great conversations at lunch/dinner time.
