So Sunday the 1st, Matt and I went and visited his uncle in the hills. We helped him clean up some trash off his hillside for about 10 mins. In the 10 mins I fell right into poison oak, and have had it ever since. I look like I've been abused - my arms are welted and my skin is dry. I can't put lotion on because moisture just stimulates the Poison Oak.

On top of that, on the 4th, I fell at work. Was in the parking lot and my feet slipped right out from under me (with a little help of me RUNNING :irked: ). I landed on my right arm and thigh.... and hurt like a b****. My rear hurt the worst initially, but when I finally got on my feet, my arm throbbed for about 4 hours and my rear didn't hurt at all. Starting the next day, my arm is for the most part okay (still a bit sore, and scraped up), but my rear/back/shoulder is MESSED UP. I went to the doc on Monday (work sent me) and found out I sprained my back, my leg and my lumbar.

I've been gimping around since the 5th... and the doc says that I go back on the 17th for a check up. If I'm still hurting as bad then, she'll run more tests. I'll tell ya what, sitting on my butt all day sure doesn't help. My back is killin me and whenever I get up, my rear kills me. Last night I couldn't even sit on our couch without it hurting... rediculous. So now it's a matter of time... I'm having a poor me day because I'm miserable and sitting doesn't help. I'm so glad I get to leave early today.

buy some oatmeal bath and soak in a tub of it. Calamine to go on after. Make sure they check to see if you cracked your tail bone. I hope not cause it hurts for a long time.

I just went to check and see what stuff DH used when he got poison ivy; it says it works on poison oak too ... it is called Tecnu

There is all sorts of lotions, scrubs and such too.

Thanks.. I've been using calamine, but then switched to benadryl - works better. As for the tailbone - yeah, that's what's hurting when I'm sitting all the time. My dad swears by oatmeal soap, but I can't sit in a bath long enough to make it work - hot water agitates my poison oak, and I won't take a cold bath lol. *doh*

When we used to live out in the country, my mom would always get poison ivy or poison oak and she ALWAYS used this stuff. As far as I can remember it worked pretty good. I'm so sorry you hurt your back! Hopefully it gets better soon.

Oh no! I hope you feel better soon. Both things are bad enough on their own but to deal with them both at once!!

I have GOT to find some of that - we're going back up there this weekend weather permitting, and this would be great for everyone when we're done.

Actually there is something that you put on before hand and it doesn't let the oil from poison oak or ivy penetrate your skin. Repels the nasty stuff. Crud can't find it in the medicine chest. My dad swears by it when they are cutting hay.

Let me know if you find out what it's called - I'll be sure to get some! Shoot, I get the repellant and the stinkin soap LOL!

Oh Justina - straight up - that sucks. I'm so sorry! Hopefully you'll heal quickly and these unfortunate incidences will just be a distant memory.

Feel better ASAP! :)

I was at our prospective new home for about 2 hours today - on my feet the entire time on cheap flat shoes, and after that we went to Home Depot and dreamed for about 2 hours. Um.. lesson learned :urgh: Next time I'll wear tennis shoes, and I might even try using my back brace for awhile and see if that helps. Just standing still for about 20 mins while we were talking to the inspector was killin me. *d'oh*!!! Poison Oak is fine as long as I'm cold - so as long as I don't get warm and toasty then I don't itch :urgh:
