I outlined briefly in the Australian Wildfires thread how we've been flooded in my little corner of the country. Well this morning I have woken up to blindingly bright sunshine for the second day in a row! My yard is still a muddy, slushy mess, but there is no actual water in it, and all the roads I can see from my front door look clear too :D .

I've been having a little pity party for one for the last couple of days, but today I'm feeling cheerful. I have the day off work, so I'm going to make the most of it, and go and do whatever wedding stuff I can! The lingerie store at the shopping centre closest to me is having a closing down sale, so I'm going to pop in there first thing in case I can score myself a wedding bargain.
Then I'm going to pop into town and order my favours from the chocolate shop (assuming it is open, a lot of places still aren't), and start seeing about something for my hair.
I know my wedding planner is operating as usual because I've got an email from him already this morning, so I'm going in to see him after lunch to start picking linens and working out my centrepieces and all that other really fun stuff. I think I'm going to achieve more today than I have managed to in the last month or so!
Then by this afternoon, so long as it doesn't rain, the road to the north should open again, and I might be able to go and visit my mum and dad! I usually see or at least speak to them everyday, so it has been really difficult the last couple of weeks- they are without power, so they have been communicating with us by turning on their mobile phone once a day to send us a text so that we know they are ok. I'm a bit nervous about seeing the house, because going by what I've seen on the news, where they are is in a bad way. But, they are healthy and in seemingly good spirits, so that's all that matters I guess!

With a bit of luck we might start getting mail again today too- not that I'm looking forward to the bills I know must be in there :snide:. But I am waiting for my wedding shoes to arrive by post, so I guess I'll take the bad with the excellent/exciting!

Well I ended up having a really productive day! I got my underwear for 40% off- it is brand new stock, but because the shop is closing down and the manager knew I was interested (I work in the complex and am friendly with most of the people who work in the other shops) she put it away for me. It was perfect!

My shoes were delivered about 20mins after I posted my original message, so yay! I was worried that they would be darker than the picture, but they are spot on. They are a bit tight across the toes, but I've a while to stretch them. Beauty is pain, after all!

I didn't end up ordering my favours, because the chocolate shop was closed, but I did manage to organise the centrepiece for my kids table at another lolly shop- it's basically lollies and chocolate bars arranged artfully in centrepiece style. It took every ounce of will power I possess to walk out of that store empty handed, drool.....

I found the perfect little flower girls dress. It's a bit expensive, so I'm still tossing up whether or not I should bother. It's an Alfred Angelo design, so I have to make the decision today to have a hope of getting it here on time.

Our cake lady came with samples, and we finalised our cake design. I am so excited about our cake, especially after tasting the cupcakes she bought with her, they are beautiful tasting as well as gorgeous looking :D.

And I did manage to go and see mum and dad. The weather stayed beautiful until late yesterday, when we got a massive storm, but the roads were all open. Their house is not bad. It's double story, so the top floor is fine, but downstairs has a fair bit of water damage. Luckily they chose not to ignore warnings, and dragged pretty much everything they care about to the top floor. The only things they really lost are their kitchen things, and an old lounge setting. I helped mop up and scrape mud out, everyone was in good spirits. The army and prisoners (?!?!) are up there helping out today.

I crammed a lot ino one little day, didn't I? No wonder I slept well for a change!

Helps too, to have a little less to worry about :)

Our news reports ended tonight with a mention of a Koala love story. Sam, a female Koala who survived the fires is now being courted by Bob, a male Koala who is also a fire survivor :) Awwww

Sounds great! I'm really excited for you. It's so nice to check things off the list and feel that sense of accomplishment, huh?
