As some of you know, I became a 2 dress bride. As Homer would say.....D'oh! I've listed my dress on a few places to sell it and have recently had someone interested in purchasing, but says she is not able to pay for the dress with paypal, but can pay with a certified bank check. I told her it was really easy to set up a paypal account and that way she could transfer the money right to her bank account and mine and that it's the safest way for both of us.....but does that come off as seeming rude? I really don't want to say "No, I won't sell it to you if won't use paypal" but at the same time, I really don't want to get scammed with a bogus check either....
Ahhhhhh!

I would just tell you that you are only comfortable with PayPal ... too risky any other way. People can make payments with PayPal even without having an account.

I don't think it's rude to ask them to use paypal. It is the safest way. I've had lots of bad experiences with people offering to pay with a certified check on Craigslist - usually they just aren't serious/don't come through and luckily I haven't been burned. You're right, Paypal is safest and easiest for both of you. Good luck!

I have to agree with everyone else on this one. I borrowed some money from a friend in England when I was living there and I told him it would take time to pay him back. I moved back to America, when I had the amount I asked him to set up a pay pal account so I could pay him back. He was reluctant cuz he didn't know how to set it up or how it works and actually I only used it once b4 that. It worked out in the end.

Yeah the person is probably just weary because they've never used Paypal before. And if you don't know much about it, it could seem unsafe. I don't think it's rude for you to explain to her that you would prefer Paypal, since it is a safe way for both of you to exchange money.

I have to agree that Pay Pal is the safest way to go, Just let the girl know that you are not comfortable with any other form of payment. Good Luck, I hope you can get the dress sold.

I think it's more than okay for you to sell your dress on your terms. There's no point in adding any kind of stress to this process. As you said, Paypal is easy to set up - it's not like you're asking her to do anything unreasonable!
Good luck - hope it works out...:)

If for some reason you DO sell her the dress and let her pay with a check. Make sure you tell her it WILL NOT SHIP until the check clears the bank. That way if it doesn't clear you won't be out the money and your dress.
But if I were you I'd insist on Paypal, for your protection and hers.

Stick with Paypal. The company I work at recently received a forged bank check for supplies. We thought the people that bought it and the check were real. They weren't. Apparently the police said "washing" these checks have become really common and its really hard to tell the difference between the fake and the real ones. So to be comfortable and have piece of mind, stick with Paypal. At least you'll know you'll get paid.

Thanks everyone. She hasn't gotten back to me yet, but I'm going to stick with PayPal as my payment option. It really stinks that everyone has to be so cautious of scammers, but hey....that's how the world is these days.
