FH and I were just talking about our favorite TV shows when we were growing up. It was so much fun to take a walk down memory lane, I'd thought I'd ask everyone what their favorites were growing up!

1. TV Shows: Rugrats, Doug, Saved by the Bell (Zach Morris was oh so cute!), Alf, The Simpsons

2. Movies: Troop Beverly Hills was really the only movie I watched over and over again

3. Toys/Playtime: BARBIES! OMG - me and my cousin (MOH) used to spend entire Saturday afternoons playing with them. We had every accessory imaginable. I remember setting up VHS tapes to make roads and everything. We also played house and school and used my mom's old dresses and shoes and dress up.

4. Music: Backstreet Boys was my number one! Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera were also pretty big on my list too. Hey, I was a 90's kid :)

5. Games: I had this Barbie Dream Prom Date game that was my absolute favorite.

6: Holiday: Christmas was my absolute favorite. I remember my mom's Christmas music and decorations. I remember playing outside in the snow at night with the glow of Christmas lights and then coming inside and smelling fresh pine tree.

7: Foods: My mom was always cooking something. Homemade chicken soup, sweet and sour chicken, chicken marsala and Chop Suey are my favorites that she makes. When she comes to visit me, she makes me one of them too! She always made me a nice lunch too for school, with a note :) Also, every summer, my parents had a garden and come August/September, my grandpa and mom would make homemade salsa. It was an all day process and it was fun spending time with them. It is the best salsa.

Lets see what I can remember from the 80's when I was young ....

1. TV Shows: I don't really remember any specific favs, but I watched; Saved by the Bell (I liked Slater) and Alf. Others I remember (with online help :bblol:) Punky Brewster, 21 Jump Street (Jhonny Depp), Growing Pains (used to have a crush on Kirk Cameron), Silver Spoons (Ricky Schroder) and I also remember watching Happy Days some ... oh, and The Muppets. Most of these we watched with the family or they thought was ok for us to watch. I am sure there was more I don't remember. I remember they wouldn't let us watch MTV ... I am sure there were cartoons and such too.

2. Movies: I don't recall any fav movies growing up, but I saw most all of the iconic ones. The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles stand out ... Ferris Bueller's Day Off , Desperately Seeking Susan and Weird Science ... Ghostbusters and The Goonies too. I am sure there were others when I was younger too, just can't remember.

3. Toys/Playtime: I was never too big on baby dolls; I am sure I had a few, I do remember having a couple of Cabbage Patch kids (Rossie Lottia (or something like that), I remember was one of their names), but I don't remember actually playing much with them, especially as I got older. I remember playing more with stuffed animals, Strawberry Shortcake and Barbies. I remember crying in the middle of Toys R Us on day for my Mom to let me have a Barbie. I must have been around 10; she thought I should have more baby dolls :p Oh, I had My Little Ponies too; funny that they are still around. I got my niece some for her birthday last year, but she wasn't that into them at 3 and they eventually got tossed.

4. Music: Yeah, I will admit it; I liked The New Kids On The Block back in the day. I also liked Madonna, Cindi Lauper, The Police, U2, Culture Club and the like. Then I started getting into the hair bands like Bon Jovi, Areosmith, Warrant, Guns n Roses, Metalica, etc ... I had lots of posters on the walls in my room ;)

5. Games: I can't say I really remember any games I just loved, but I remember some we had, like; Trouble, Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders, and Life, Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit.

6: Holiday: Christmas has always been my favorite. I love the decorations (Mom is obsessed and use to step into tacky); the tree and the lights and all. I love the food and the sweets and the family being happy ... and of course presents are always nice too ;)

7: Foods: My mom used to make these things she called "Barbie Cups" that we liked a lot. I think it was like biscuit dough pressed into muffin pans and filled with bbq ground beef or taco beef then cheese *yum* And she used to make this potato soup with cut up hot dogs in it that I remember liking too. I don't really remember much of anything else really out of the ordinary. We ate a lot of spaghetti and fried chicken and such.

6: Holiday: hasn't changed much from how we do things now, except that we sat at the kiddie table back then :-P

7: Foods: Macaroni and cheese and spaghettios

Also.......... Jelly Shoes! I LOVED those things...

OMG can i even think that far back

1. TV Shows: Every Sunday after getting out the bath i would go downstairs in My Jarmies. Sit on the pouffe and watch "The Muppet Show". I used to love the mindless violence of "Tom & Jerry". And believe it or not, i used to love watching "The New Shmoo". Who would have thought i'd end up marrying a Shmoo LOL.

2. Movies: My Mum was a huge Sci-Fi Fan and would drag Me to see anything Sci-Fi (ish) at the Cinema. So i was dragged to watch the likes of "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind". "The Cat From Outer Space". Something or other about a Witch Mountain. Can't remember if it was Escape From or Return To. (I've slept since then lol)
Oh and all Three of the original Star Wars. Plus the likes of Superman and Spiderman.
Hey it was good Popcorn. :winktongue:

3. Toys/Playtime: Climbing Trees or playing on Swings.
Which i still do if no ones looking. :winktongue:

4. Music: With My Brother being a lot older than Me. I was brought up with Rock Music. The likes of Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zep etc. By the time i was 9 i was an AC/DC Fan. And *cough* 31 years *cough* later i'm still a fan.

5. Games: We used to make our own games. Which generally involved a lot of running around and screaming. Hey these things have to be done LOL.

6: Holiday: Christmas because it was closely followed by My Birthday. Being the youngest i was spoilt rotton.

7: Foods: My Dads Apple Pies. Not one ingredient was ever measured but they always came out perfect.
My favourite dinner as a kid was Spaceships In The Clouds. (Or Sauages And Mash for those who don't know what i'm on about). Even now i can eat Spaceships In The Clouds every single night.

3. Toys/Playtime: We always rode our bikes. We played "horses" (give a kid a jump rope and an unfortunate friend..presto you have a horse) :), and of course Barbie.

4. Music: Michael Jackson was big when I was in elementary school, Madonna, Devo, Billy Idol, The Police.

5. Games: Monopoly,Boggle, puzzles, Trivia Pursuit.

6: Holiday: Christmas always sticks out in my head. We would come down stairs to unwrapped presents from Santa. I would get ticked cause my sisters gifts were better. One year she got a stereo and I got book shelves. What the heck is that all about?

7: Foods: I swear, every Thursday night was baked chicken with papirika spinkled on it.

Willy Wonka was a good movie; I should have added that one to my list. You know my DH has never seen that movie?!

Funny; I have at least one or two things in common with everyone so far (even if I forgot to mention it in my post) :)

1. TV Shows: My sister and I always watched My Two Dads, though I think they were in reruns then, and... Doug, Rugrats, Are You Afraid of the Dark? (that was the best, scary and not cheesy)

2. Movies: The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Toy Story and I loved and still love Anne of Green Gables and the sequel (not the third one; that one stinks), Homeward Bound, The Santa Clause movies

3. Toys/Playtime: I like Barbies, especially the one that had really long hair, and then Cabbage Patch kids dolls, legos, stuffed animals, I forget what they're called, but those cats that purred

4. Music: I was never that much into music until I got to around high school age, and then I liked Nsync, I was also pretty obsessed with the Titanic soundtrack for awhile, and then my sister constantly had the country music channel on, which i hated... but I did like a few of them.. like Sawyer Brown and Collin Raye

5. Games: I loved Aggravation... and then I liked Monopoly, Life, and that Mall Madness game even though it was a pain to put together, oh, and Twister was always fun

6: Holiday: Christmas... I loved the togetherness feeling of it... I still do, but it goes by so fast. And when I was little, I loved the thought of going to sleep, having Santa visit, and waking up to presents and a stocking. The stocking was actually usually my favorite part. And it's because of that memory that I love the ornament I have with the kids sleeping in bed on Christmas Eve

7: Foods: I liked all the same stuff I do now... macaroni and cheese, string cheese, chicken

I hear ya gal! :)

I had forgot most of those shows! Remember My Three Sons, I Dream of Jeannie and The Gong Show? :)

I wanted a Cher wig for Christmas! I also wanted the youngest Cartright boy & oh yes, Robin too. Oh oh oh I just remembered - the Partridge Family - David was soooooo hot.

I listed music that I liked when I was a teen but when I was younger, I liked the Partridge Family, Donny Osmond, a Shawn Cassidy, the Bay City Rollers, the Beach Boys and every K-tel Top Hits album that was ever made.

Playtime meant disappearing out the door at 8am and sometimes not coming home until dinner time. Summers of playing tag, riding bikes, hanging out at the park, building forts in the forest, or hanging out at the pool.

If I didn't get to see a movie in the theatre, I looked forward to seeing them on ABC's Wonderful World of Disney or when they came out on a reel at the pool or in our community center.

1. TV Shows: My brothers are quite a bit older than me so I didn't watch too many shows my friends were watching, other than Saved by the Bell and Clarissa Explains It All (my absolute fave!!!). I was (and still am) obsessed with MASH. My mom really monitored my tv watching and was only allowed two hours a day.

2. Movies: The Little Mermaid, All Dogs Go to Heaven, Lady and the Tramp, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin. My oldest brother would take me whenever he came home from school. He even calls me Pigeon (from lady and the tramp) and Squeaker (from all dogs go to heaven).

3. Toys/Playtime: Pabbage catches! Or cabbage patches for you uncreative folks. My aunt bought me my first one when I was born. When I started to walk, I'd carry it around with me. The thing was bigger than I was!

4. Music: Wasn't really into music until high school.

5. Games: Life, Dream Date, Mall Madness, Super Mario Bros.

6: Holiday: Easter! I would get an easter dress and HUGE easter baskets. It's my mom's favorite holiday so she always goes all out for it.

7: Foods: Puerto Rican food, pork chops, mac and cheese and applesauce, spaghetti and milk, beef stroganoff

1. TV Shows: Ok, I swear on my life, I've watched General Hospital like every day of my life. Other shows I liked as a kid - Three's Company (although I didn't really understand what being gay meant!), Growing Pains, Charles in Charge, Punky Brewster, Scooby Doo (I remember that came on right after General Hospital...haha...), Facts of Life, Cosby Show, Who's the Boss, Small Wonder (I always wanted a robot after that...), and Wheel of Fortune (ha)

2. Movies: Beverly Hills Cop (My mom was big into letting us watch stuff that was WAY too old for us), Ferris Bueller's Day off, Troop Beverly Hills, The Jerk - I really didn't watch any kids movies!

3. Toys/Playtime: I didn't really like dolls all that much. I can't remember specifically any toys I had!

4. Music: I listened to my mom's R&B and Motown since that's what she listened to. Then I branched into the unfortunate stage called New Kids on the Block. :)

5. Games: I was down with the Boggle. I also really liked the Simon - do you remember Simon?

1. TV Shows: the Saturday morning Warner Bros. cartoons, I wasn't a big fan of the other studio (ie, Yogi bear and Tom and Jerry) . . . Voltron! As I got older I liked Dukes of Hazzard and the A team, I also had a crush on MacGuyver and we all watched the Cosby Show and Family Ties. In high school I discovered Johnny Carson and Saturday Night Live!

2. Movies: Indiana Jones (the first one), the Return of the Jedi, The Princess Bride, and most Disney cartoon movies.

3. Toys/Playtime: I collected Breyer horses. I also used to ride my bike for miles, go horseback riding, and swim at our tennis club. Oh, and I read books in a big way. My favorites were Walter Farley's Black Stallion books and the Chronicles of Narnia. I also read Judy Blume and the Sweet Valley High books.

4. Music: Mom and Dad were very religious so that's what I grew up with. But my Papa had a library of blues and swing in his basement, so I fell in love with that very quickly! For myself I liked Will Smith (Parents Just Don't Understand) in high school and Michael W. Smith, and I secretly had a passion for the Beatles. My parents approved of the Beach Boys. Still like them now!

5. Games: I remember Simon! I never won, though. I remember playing Moon Rover and Pac Man on the Atari and the first ever Mario Bros on Nintendo. I also liked RISK, the Oregon Trail and Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego.

6: Holiday: Christmas was the best...:)

7: Foods: There was this Chinese place near Mom's work and she would bring home Chinese every once in a while. Wow, it was good. Nowadays, having tasted *real* Chinese I can say that it was just average at best, but back then it was the best thing I'd ever eaten. I am STILL trying to find a Chinese place that makes the same kind of brown sauce, to no avail. Other memorable kid food includes stuffed green peppers (YUCK!) and spatezel (YUCK!) and my Nana's homemade brioche and pierogi. Oh, and what Mom called a Dutch pancake, kind of like a pannekoeken but lighter, with more air. She would serve that on occasional Sundays and we'd have it with peaches in syrup and bacon and sausage (this was before chloresterol, of course!).

Besides toys, I was a huge reading fanatic. I would read anything, and also used to borrow my aunt's nursing books and read those! Haha, what a dork.

4. Music: Oldschool Mariah Carey

5. Games: Operation(my fave), Jenga, Checkers, LIFE, Mouse Trap

6: Holiday: Is this question serious? CHRISTMAS, of course!:)

7: Foods: Pasta, any fruit, some veggies but I really loved peas, my mom's beef stroganoff, ice cream, etc. I wasn't horribly picky, as long as it didn't involve chicken or mayonnaise!!!

2. Movies: I was like in 5th grade before I ever seen a movie and it was Footloose. (that was back in the day of drive ins) Loved Grease and Annie.

4. Music: I was also in 5th grade before I ever heard anything other than country and oldies. Eddie Rabbit, Crystal Gayle, Alabama, and all old 50-60 rock

5. Games: Pac man on the atari (I just dated myself)

6: Holiday: Christmas with my grandparents. They lived and worked at a power plant that had 7 houses, 5 for the workers and 2 guest houses, a rec room, and a park. That's it! Every Christmas Eve grandpa would pile all of us grand kids into his truck and go to see if we could see Santa. There were at least 10 to 15 kids in the truck with him. He would drive through the mountains and find a flashy star and have us all be on the look out for Santa. Every time we got back to the house Santa had already been there!!! Every year we fell for it too!

7: Foods: We spent most of my childhood camping, so dutch oven potatoes and breakfast over the fire. Yummmmy. And fish. My dad fished all the time and expected us to eat fish 3 or 4 days a week. Now I cannot stand even the smell of them.
