I just am not skilled enough nor have the time to DIY my invites but want to get the best deal possible at the same time.
are there companies or sites I should look at?
i'm a bit nervous to pick a site online that i haven't read any reviews on...

You might search the OneWed.com vendor database - http://www.onewed.com/vendor/search
In a quick web search I found these sites - budgetweddinginvitations.com and wedding.invitations4less.com ... but I know nothing about either of them.

Those are actually fairly decently priced. I know that I was pretty horrified at prices when I started looking for invitations.
I'll be having a friend whip up a design on photoshop, and then we'll probably take it to a print/copy shop to have it duplicated for cheap.
We ordered 100 invitations, 100 matching colored envelopes, & 100 RSVPS ~ plus 144 matching labels for the RSVPS (with our address) and 250 "business cards" i.e. little notes with Thank Yous on them ~ also matching everything else ~ for a grand total WITH shipping of around $165 ~ I am IN LOVE with them! It's not for everyone cuz you sorta have to design your own invite (as I did) - but try www.vistaprint.com (http://www.vistaprint.com)

Ebay has lots as does etsy.
Look on craigslist or kijiji (people cancelling weddings, having leftovers, etc).
Michaels has nice DIY ones and they always have 40% off coupons.

I went to a craft store such as acmoore. They have an entire bridal section that is stocked full of savings. Most invitations are print your own. But they have beautiful designs to choose from. I bought over 200 invitations to print on my own for less than $50. Which is much cheaper than having them printed up.
Maybe you have a try on visiting Goodparty.co.uk.Hope it will be helpful.:)

Someone just recommended www.paperandmore.com (http://www.paperandmore.com) to me. It says many of their invitations are less than $1 each.
