What is the one food that you would tell someone who is visiting your state or area that they have to try before leaving? It should be something that maybe you can only get in your area or your area is famous for.
For me I would have to say Bluebell Icecream. Until just recently you could only get it in Texas. Now you can get it in Louisiana and New Mexico. I think maybe Oklahoma. Help me out of this one, Cindy.

JO JOS! Oy! Those are heaven in a potato! And I had never even heard of them before I moved here. Jason told me about them once and I thought he was crazy! They're kind of like potato wedges, only their seasoned and deep fried and GREAT for your waistline! ;)

Corn on the cob. Ontario has awsome corn on the cob in late july early august. The tomatoes are awsome as well! Those are my two favourite things, served with BBQ'd chicken breast and i'm in heaven!

Primantis sandwiches are pretty popular, it is loaded with all your sandwich fixings then they add in coleslaw and french fries. Pittsburgh is famous for perogies. I am a fan of Dave and Andy's ice cream, Eat n Park Smiley cookies, and Sarris chocolate covered pretzels too.

I'm actually not a fan because I don't like meat or cole slaw. Where did you get it at? By the way I really recommend you take the hour drive to Canonsburg to sample the Sarris chocolate factory and ice cream shop in person.

hmmm ... well Georgia is famous for peaches. I think pecans and boiled peanuts are another Southern thing. But I can't think of anything particular that is special in our area that I really would say you 'gotta try'

I used to like the boiled peanuts when I was little. We spent a lot of time in the south. Pecans are a great southern thing too, especially in pralines.

Ugh I don't like pecans! On holidays everyone makes pecan pies and I can't stand them. I think they even look gross.

Last Thanksgiving, Sean and I had all of our parents over for dinner a few days before the actual holiday. Well he was out of town the night before so all the prep work was on me olus I had to be up early for work in case the weather was bad. So I did all th ebaking including this fabulous pecan pie, from scratch following a Marth Stewart recipe. I even cut out little leaves from the extra dough and put around the crust. I probably had 2 hours and $25 dollars tied up in this pie. Anyway, I put it on the table to cool and go take a bath. I come out of the bathroom and go to get the pie from the table to put in the refridgerator. Ellie had jumpedup on the table. (I still don't know how those short legs got her there) and ate half of the pie. I could have cried. Actually I did cry. I cried while I was on the phone telling Sean what his evil little dog did. Of course this was 11 at night and I had to be up for work at 530. So, no pecan pie. I had to go and buy a Marie Calander's creme pie to have for extra.

Well....there is a place here called Gonella's...and tehy make the best sub in the world. It is actually a small Italian owned convenience store with a deli in southwest Detroit...and a pretty bad area at that...but has been around since my mom grew up in that neighborhood in the 60's. They are just awesome. If it weren't for the subs, the store would have closed down ages ago!!!!

Kacie.....Im not sure how much help I can be. I usualy recommend homeade tamales. You have find them all over this place. And funnell cakes. Im not sure if they are just more common in the area, but when Ive wanted them other places, I couldnt find them.
Oh about 45 minutes away is Noonday, TX and they are famous for their Noonday onions. These onions are so good you could eat them like an apple....and Im not a big onion person! They even sell them in our gorcery stores, but its way cheaper to drive to Noonday and buy them from a stand!

For Arizona, I would say Cactus Jelly. There is a place called the Mining Capm Rest. that serves it. It's really good.
As for a rest, I would hav to say The Mining Camp. It's up at the base of the Superstition Mountains, and you can see the lights of Phx from there. The inside is set up like a log cabin, but lined w log tables and benched. You are served family style, platters constantly coming at you. All you can eat bbq chicked, ribs, or pot roast, pot. wedges, coleslaw, baked beans by the pot, and biscuits. You eat and dring from metal dishes. It's acutally alot of fun.
And the gift shop is pretty neat too.

If you were at the Carson Street one, you were about two blocks from my house! Next time you take the jet ski, make a planned stop at Sarris.

I say dough boys ( which I did not get any yesterday :bbcry: ) and Nicholas calls them elephant ears and my friend from Australia calls them something else but I can't remember. I love dough boys.
There is not much from NH that wold say you HAVE to try. But the one thing I can think of that I can't find any where ( not back home in Maine anyways ) Is Friendly's Forbidden Chocolate Explosion. If you like chocolate and ice cream OMG this is to die for. It is the only ice cream that I have to have a glass of milk after wards. It is sooooo good. And Nicholas doens't like that much chocolate so it is all mine when I buy some.

I thought of one other thing. They are called pistoletes. It is a sour dough roll with cheese and shrimp and crawfish and spices inside. It is divine! The best ones I ever had was at the Rice Festival that takes place in early October/late September in Winnie, TX. Actually all the food is great! Most everything is Cajun food. If you are ever in Southeast Texas around that time you should defiantely come just for the food. They also have a ethnic beauty contest. Girls in the pageant dress up in clothing from their backgrounds. It is interesting to see where some people's anestors come from and some interesting things about the area.

Turkey & dressing sandwiches. For some reason, a lot of people haven't heard of them until they come to Iowa. I grew up on them and I absolutely love it. If someone was visiting Dubuque though, I would tell them to drive to the tiny little town of St. Donatus and eat at Kalmes' restuarant and get anything because everything is good and everyone needs to experience that restuarant (or just come to my wedding since they are catering!! :) )
