When my friends got married (to each other, which was cool!) his best friend was (and still is!) a girl. They called her the Best Being in the program and she wore the same dress the bridesmaids wore -- except that hers was in black with a black and white scarf. It was very chic, and though she doesn't look her best in black, it still looked good because of the warm white side of the scarf.

Maybe you could do something sort of the same? A tux is basically black and white, after all, so if you stuck to that color scheme, except in dresses, it wouldn't look too out of place. My friend's black dress was a simple ankle-length satin sheath with spaghetti straps, but it looked lovely and elegant.

Hmm I'm not sure but what about a black business suit type of outfit?

Hmmm....maybe you could find women's business suits that matched and find matching vests as the "shirts" for them.
Kinda like this:

Or maybe something like this:

For a more feminine feel, but still with the tuxedo idea, something like this could work, especially if you layered a black vest over it:

Here's a women's tuxedo looking suit:

I like the idea of little black dresses, because a man's tuxedo is black 90% of the time!

They do make ladies cut tuxedos, but I would bet they are harder to find and more probably expensive.

I would go with a black bridesmaid type dress.

I agree that women's tuxedos are harder to find and more expensive, and I wouldn't know where to find one!

Regarding the idea of little black dresses, this is what we are planning for our party:

So our groomslady will be wearing a black and white version of the bm dresses, as others have said. Mind you at my FBIL's wedding his Best Woman wore the bm dress in the same colour.

I suggest you talk to your brother about how hard it might be to get ladies tuxes and suggest the black dress option. Otherwise, maybe nice black slacks and a white button up top?
