My wedding is going to be outdoors, and where we live, it is normally windy. The only alternative I have been able to come up with as far as keeping candles lit is to use large hurricane vases. Does anyone else have any other tips/ideas/pics of what I could use? I really want to have candles in the wedding ceremony, especially a special one for my Grandpa's and other family members who have passed away (this one I want to keep lit throughout the entire ceremony). Thanks!!

There are a couple of ideas I have:
This site has "electric" candles that actually looks like a lit candle
http://www.lamplust.com/lights/elec-cand.htm

This site has torches(which may be a neat alternative) and candles too

Also, These rechargeable candles look real nice. (they come in a 4 pack and I think they are white, which would be even better.)

If you don't like any of these just type in "windproof candles" in the search engine, that's how I found all these. Let me know what u think! :)

I didnt use candles at my outside ceremony as I had planned, but I did use them at my outside reception. It was a little windy that night but then only candle i had problems with were the votives.
These ivy bowls with floating candles held up great!

And these luminaries with tea lights in them also withstood the wind:

Good Luck!

I was thinking floating candles too. We did ours in wine glasses on the tables (we weren't outside, so we could fill the wine glasses up higher), but if you only filled it a little and then put the candle in, that should protect it. Oh! And if you need floating candles; Target sells ones that last for five hours and they're only $4 for a dozen! (That's where we got ours). Check out the dollar store for glasses; it's cheaper than renting! They also have the ivy bowls like Cindy had at dollar stores too!

Just wanted to give you one more tip: if you use floating candles in the glass bowls, make sure you fill the H2o almost to the top. (My sis tested them before her wedding and everytime she didn't fill the bowl w/ enough H2o it cracked!)

maybe her candles were to big for the bowl she used. I never have seen any problems like that and my cousins did floatin candles and my brother and his wife did as well. Also we didn't have problems with our bowls cracking either. I think it depends on the size of the bowl and the heat the candle is putting off!

Yeah, the candle was putting off alot of heat and not to mention she coulda had cheap bowls! :) Our problem was solved that way but I guess it's not a common prob. then.

I was told to be careful, but I didnt have any problems with mine and they were only filled half way with water.
But I think youre right, it could have been the type of bowl she used. Ive had votives do that before.
