Do you ever think about this; do you and/or your SO have it?

DH and I have had a whole life policy for a few years now. It is cool because it builds value and you can borrow against it if you need or let the policy pay itself for a while like if you were to be out of work for a while.

DH is covered through the military. I'm not right now, but will be once I can find a steady full-time job. I learned just how important having life insurance is when my dad got into his accident. He had it through work, and they do not pay out for accidents that are not related to work. So my mom was really struggling just to be able to cover the funeral and burial costs, had to get a lawyer to contend with the state for his property since he didn't have a will. It was just a horrible mess that she had to deal with in worst moment of her life.
Just a tip to those that do have it through work....you might want to see what is all included in the coverage.

We are both covered up the ying yang but this is only because we chose not to take mortgage insurance (which depreciates as your mortgage is paid down).
Instead, we got two term policies, which will pay off the mortgage in the event that one or both of us die. As our mortgage is paid down and as the term period expires, we will reduce the amount of insurance accordingly.
DH & I also have two small insurance policies which will go to our kids and DH also has insurance through work.

I checked yes to a small term policy but I'm not completely sure what it is. I just know my mom has a policy on me and has since I was younger.

My MIL works for Aflac and we have a very good life insurance policy. It's something we feel is important to have just in case.

We both have life Insurance. DH told Me to get it as soon as He started working on the roads. It's high risk work and He didn't want Me getting into a pickle should anything drastic happen.
So far We've had one scare when he had an Electric Cable blow up on Him. He came home that night and told Me to up the policy. :bbeek:
We're both Insured with enough to cover Funeral Expenses, clear all debts and enough "Change" to pay cash on a new house.
But i'd rather have DH with Me till i'm old and grey. (Or i should say older and greyer LOL)

My bank once asked me if I had some, telling me that according to their files, I "Qualified" for it. I had $600 in the savings account at the time (this was right after undergrad drained my savings, and I came back from Russia). I told them I was afraid to get something that made me more valuable dead than alive.

Funny that you posted this, we JUST got term life insurance. I have 100K through work but we wanted more so if something were to happen we could pay off our house. Now we each have 500k. The best thing about our policy is after 30 years and we are still alive we get our entire principal payments back, no interest of course, but still!

I have a policy that my parents started for me when I was a baby and work also started one for me as well.
FH also has one that his dad started for him when he was young. Eventually I would like to roll those over into new policies, but its so low on our priority list right now!

Just so you guys know. I am 25 and Jon is about to be 31. His premium is over double what mine is. The premiums (at least for term life) go up a lot once you turn 30. Just something to think about ...
