Hello, everyone!!! I am currently in the process of planning my wedding which will take place in May 09. This will be a second wedding for both of us. Here are the details I have so far:
We are members of a rock crawling/4 wheeling club and attend an annual event every year which has become very special to us. We have decided to have our wedding at/during this event because almost all of our friends are spread out in several states but will all be coming to the same place for this event. We know that we really want to marry at this event, but I am at a total loss as to any other details.
I know you're all picturing a "redneck wedding" at this point :snide: but I'm trying to keep some class to it as there will be a mud pit but we won't be anywhere near it!!!
Anyone have any ideas????? Please help!!!!

I love weddings with personality; do what you and your FH like and celebrate with people that share in what you love :)
Glad to hear you won't be having your wedding in a mud pit though ;) Not that there is anything wrong with that if that is your thing though.
I assume you have contacted and cleared this with the people that run the event?
Seems like it would be fairly easy to plan ... I would probably rent some tents so you can set up a ceremony area and a place for the cake and food (if you are doing a little reception that is) and such.
Of course you will need an officiate, and I guess you will want to hire a photographer, maybe a DJ ... will you have flowers?

We have contacted and cleared it with the President of the club that hosts the event. They even graciously offered to announce our wedding in their advertisements for this years event!!!!
One of the club's member has a relative who is an officiant that has agreed to perform the ceremony. They already have a PA system setup, so I was just thinking of using an IPod for music. One of our friends is a wonderful photographer and has volunteered to take the pictures. There is normally between 250-500 people at this event, so I'm really unsure as to how to handle the "reception" part. We're really not spending much money other than to rent the place we're staying, but we don't have a fortune to spend, either. We thought about making reservations at a local Mexican restaurant for us and a few of the closer friends, but I really hate o exclude anyone. I'm just at a loss as to how to handle that whole situation.

I am not sure how you would handle a reception like that with so many people that you may or may not even know. You can't be expected to feed 250-500 strangers!
If it were me, I would probably just do the restaurant thing you mentioned; go there and celebrate with your close friends. You could mention that everyone else is welcome to come, but at their own expense.
Maybe you could look into getting a cake.
Everything else (iPod music, friends as vendors) sounds great :D
All the best :)

Do you know what I'm picturing? You and your hubby have a nice bakery make you a HUGE towering wedding cake that can feed 500 guests and a whole truckload of non-alcoholic punch in pretty punchbowls for everyone (because rock climbing and booze just don't mix). Everyone there can have a little something to feel included, and you won't break the bank!
I used an ipod for my little wedding, and I loved it! Just make sure you have a friend who can be in charge of controlling it, since some of your guests may try to manipulate your playlist to hear songs that they like.

We saw a Wedding at a Music Festival in 2007. Everyone was invited to see the Marriage part. Because it was done on stage infront of 15,000 people. :bbeek:
The Bride and Groom set up a Marquee nearby and only those with a Wristband were allowed into the Tent for a Reception. The Wristband had the Bride and Grooms names and date on. Security were on the door and not one person tried to get through without the Wristband.
We never went to the Reception even though We knew both the Bride and Groom. We were busy doing the "Roadie" bit for our friends Band who were playing a few hours later. But at least We saw the Wedding.
It was great fun. :)
