I think that that dress is very beautiful, but I guess it will also depend on all the other elements of your wedding!!!

Hi Welcome to the site. I'm one of the ones who doesn't like the design. If you want classy and formal, I don't know if that's really the dress I would pick. It seems really for a less formal affair. JMO, though.

I don't know if that dress is what I would use for a formal wedding. It is a nice dress. I would wear it out to a cocktail party but not to a formal black tie affair. I had a very formal wedding myself, and the girls did wear shorter (tea length) dresses and it turned out fine. I am just worried that dress may be a little too short and a little too revealing. Would all of your girls be comfortable in it?

Welcome to the board!
I have to agree with Lacey and Shawna. I do like the dress, however I wouldn't choose it for my bridemaids. Especialy if you are planning a formal wedding. I think it may draw too much attention to the BM's and away from you.

No that I know that you are planning a formal wedding I would have to agree with Shawna and Lacey!!! The dress is very pretty and personally I would probably wear it myself, but not as a BM for a formal wedding!!!

I agree about the dress not being formal enough....I am having a very elegant black and white wedding and i chose floor length strapless gowns...the dress is gorgeous but it's flashy and I would worry that it would draw attention away from you too!
Welcome to the board, let me know if I can help you in anyway!

Hi Jessica!! Welcome to Onewed!! I think your dress is very beautiful, but I think it would be more conducive to a cocktail party than a wedding. If you are going for a VERY formal wedding look, my vote would be for you to keep looking for the right BM dress.

I still like the dress, but if you are having it made perhaps you could keep the same general look, but cover it up some. Look at Lacey's journal. Her dresses were gorgeous!

Yes something like Lacey's would be nice. It is simplistic and elegant. It looks very upscale and formal.

I'm sorry Jess, but I still feel that this is not a dress for a Formal wedding. This to me is still a cocktail dress worn to cocktail parties. however that is just my opinion. Yours is the one that counts!!

I understand what you are trying to do with the elegance thing. But you are going too couture in the designs that you are looking at. For Jessica Simpson to wear to a party or for a run way madel they are grat. But those aren't going to work well for a wedding. There is just too much going on with them. Plus they are very stylized to a time period. Thirty years from now you want to look at your dresses and think that they are still fabulous. Timelessness and simplicity is the definitions of elegance.
My dresses were by Bill Levkoff. I liked his designs better than most bridesmaids dresses. Here are a few that I found. His site won't let you copy the links over so I took these from www.houseofbrides.com. But if you go to www.billlevkoff.com you will be able to pull the dresses up and toy with the colors. I'm not sure what color scheme you are using.

And from the Bari Jay she posted I like these two. The sort of look like the dress on Jessica Simpson.

I have to agree with this. However, why don't you try picking out a few designs and letting your bridesmaids help choose since they will be the ones wearing them. You want them to feel comfortable and buetiful too! Also, when I think elegant and formal I think of long floor length dresses. Tea length and shorter dresses are generally used for a less formal themed wedding.
Best of luck and welcome!

Not necissarily. I had a very formal evening wedding and my girls wore tea length dresses. They just looked like any other black cocktail dress that you would pick up. My sil had a formal night wedding last spring as well and her dresses were tea length.

Okay perhaps I worded that wrong I should have said when I think of a formal really elegant I think long dresses. I do like some of those desses in the links they do look both formal and elegant and they aren't long!

I know usually you get that idea when you think of a formal affair. However, Lacey's looked great!

I like it... but its very "runway-ish" so classy and formal aren't the words that come to mind... more like stylish and airy. But thats just my opinion ;)

I have to say this and agree with everyone else. It is not what i would consider formal at all. But everyone has their own ideas and opinions on things. That is what makes everyone unique and different. My opinion is it looks a little to informal for a black tie affair. Sorry if this might have upset you though.
