So, I'm not on the pill and well...I did some calculating recently and discovered I'd be having my monthly visitor during the wedding and honeymoon.
Sooo now I have to make an apt to the gyno to see if I can get on BC. I've never been to the gyno before, so I'm definitely going to need some ideas on how to calm my nerves...any suggestions?

Its not that bad. Mine is a really old guy and he isn't at all thrilled to do them so he gets in and out very quickly. When I had the first one done I cleaned up like it was my wedding night for fear that he may be grossed out if i didnt. lol He talked to me all the way through like we were just talking over dinner. Theres nothing to fear. They look inside just like they would look down your throut. The worst part was when they take a sample from there but it feels more like a tickle then a prick. You'll do fine. My sis hasn't done hers yet and shes a few years overdo. You'll feel better when its over and you wont be in the office very long.

You'll be fine. As We say in the UK.
Just lay back and think of England.
Mine was during the Honeymoon. But then again it was there all the time since Surgery back in July. So a solid Three Months of it. :bbeek:
In Your case for a few minutes of small discomfort for the ease afterwards is well worth it IMO.
I just wanna come back as a Ginger Tom Cat.
Eat, Drink, Sleep, Look cute, and i'd always wanted to be a Red Head.

you'll be ok! I was nervous my first time too but it wasnt as bad as I thought. Most of the time I spent talking and waiting. Then when she actually examine me it lastest 2 secs! She used this metal thing to open ya up. Take a few swabs and press on your tummy while she has her finger inside of you.
WALAA that's it!
Good Luck!

i was so nervous my first time but i was 16! im really sarcastic when im nervous so i was cracking jokes but i don't reccommend that. ha ha I'll tell you probably my most embarrassing moment and hopefully you won't do this ha ha.
So i went to the gyno and mine happens to be this super cute australlian guy with an accent. So it made me even more nervous. Well after hes done with all his stuff he in lack of better terms sticks a few fingers inside and feels your ovaries and stuff. Well he looked up to me to see if i was uncomfortable and i SMILED AT HIM!! not like a little smile but a huge stupid smile. after i left i wanted to cry. we joke about it now 7 years later but i will never forget it.
you should be okay just don't let your nerves get to you.
good luck!

It is just a little awkward but not like it hurts or anything. I still see the doctor on the university campus so they are pretty understanding of people being nervous. Most the time the doctor is talking to me during it and before I know it is all over.

Well as much as I hate the gyno (just awkward and uncomfortable really, but still) you really should go once a year anyway.
I got on the pill a month or two before the wedding so I wouldn't have my cycle on the honeymoon too.

It's not bad at all. You definetely should go though and continue to go anually. It's important to get a pap every year and make sure it's normal. Just relax and remember they see thousands of female genitalia every year. I do recommend having a gyno that you like and trust. I wouldn't trade my doctor for the world. You will be juuust fine :)

You'll be fine! These people are medical professionals and they see the same things day after day. Just relax and know that you're not their first patient. I am, however, concerned that this is the first time you've been to a gyn??? Was it because of nerves?

Don't be afraid - the first time was nerve rattling for me too, as I think it is for every other woman on the planet. The key is to find a doc you're comfortable with. A good gyno is somebody who makes you feel at ease and gets in and out quickly!
The worst thing that could happen is a little cramping, but nothing you can't handle. It'll be over before you know it and you'll be on your merry way. :)

Ugh...I hate going in for my yearly pap smear. It sucks but its not painful...it just is awkward having a stranger down in your private parts. But everytime I get mine done, it goes fast and they are always professional. They usually try and ask you about your work or school or something other than female genetalia. Although, I did have one lady who asked if I wanted to look at my cervix with a mirror. I said thanks but no thanks. LOL

I have been to the gyn before, but they never did an exam...I'm not sure why not. Plus, before it was with my mom's doctor, and I found him really creepy as I sat in his office staring at pictures of his wife.
I just made the apt. I just have to remind myself that not only will I not have my period over the wedding/honeymoon, but it will help me with cramps (I have awful cramps that will keep me in bed sometimes...they've even made me sick to the point of throwing up) and help clear up my skin too.
Ugh. I just worry about gaining weight or my boobs getting bigger...both of those I do not need!

The first time is definately nerve wracking but it doesn't hurt at all. The clamps may be a little cold but other then that you don't really feel anything.
I remember my first time and with my gyno being a woman she's like man I remember my first time too. She's like I'm going to warm up the clamps a little bit for you so it's not so cold, etc. She said her's was a guy and he didn't warn her they would be cold and it took her by surprise so thats why she told me.
Not everyone gains weight when they get on the pill - I didn't.
Good luck!
Oh and I feel kinda silly but part of the date picking process actually involved me calculating out my monthly friend...lol...since I'm already on the pill and am regular because of it.

Haha I also tried to plan around my period when I picked a wedding date. However, stress, moving in with a new female roommate, etc all changed my period up and now I'm stuck with it being over the wedding day if I continued on this path.
Thanks for all ya'lls advice!

Well, I also just had my first experience in October. and I did wait because of nerves, and to be honest I probably wouldn't have gone (at least not that that point, I dont know when I would have) I went because I found out I was pregnant. (not anymore, lost it..but anyways) the pelvic exam itself didnt really bother me, nor the breast exam. It was a little uncomfortable when she did the swab for the pap. but it was over in seconds. I actually had a pelvic exam (minus the pap) in the ER due to some issues I was having with the baby a few days before that, and he was awesome. He wasn't even a gyno, but just an ER doc. and He was really gentle and talked me through it all.
You'll be fine and its over in minutes :)

It doesn't hurt, its just uncomfortable. I always think of it this way, they've seen worse.
The first time I went I was 16. I was nervous, and really, everytime I go I get nervous, but it is done in less than a minute (no joke) that I always walk out of there thinking, "now why did I make such a big deal about it!".

Like others have said, it's not so bad. Especially if you have a doctor who talks during the exam (e.g., "okay now I'm going to do xyz..."). Some girls don't gain weight on the pill, others do. It helps some with skin issues, for others it doesn't. It really depends on you and how your body reacts.
But I'm sure it'll be nice NOT to have your monthly during your wedding, so hopefully it's all worth it :)

I agree with all the ladies above. I was very nervous before I had my first exam, but once it's over, you realize it wasn't really that bad!
One tip though, it's a good idea to stick a minipad in your purse before you go. Many times they use ky or some type of lubricant and since you can't necessarily wash it all off there, you don't want it all over your underwear! Also, this hasn't happened to me, but I know that some women spot a little blood afterwards (nothing serious, just a drop or two), and then you would be protected from that as well. :sweatdrop:
Good luck, you'll be fine!

:) Oh hon.. you'll be fine...doesn't hurt at all...i'm not sure if the other ladies go through this, but make sure to fast 12 hours before you go just incase your doctor wants to do some blood work for cholosteral level or complete blood count. The doctor does use ky gelly on the gadget (speculum) open you up a bit swab ya a couple of times and it will be over. They do use a brush to get a sample from your cervix. Then will be test for cancer, swab is usually used for and STD check. When they stick there two fingers in and tap your belly its called a bi manual exam I believe it is done to check your uterus. It will be done before you know.. I PROMISE, good luck. All of woman hate doing this...i'm sure the doctors hate it more then we do

So my apt. is tomorrow. I really don't want to go, but I am going to suck it up and do it. I don't want to be on my period over the wedding/honeymoon. Ugh. Looks like I don't have a choice.

I promise you'll be fine. It's worth the trip to have peace of mind about your health, and also to straighten out the period/wedding stuff. Good luck!:)
