Does anyone have any ideas for favors for an informal reception where we are thinking about having BBQ type food that will be buffet style? I was thinking about the candy buffet or even chocolate covered pretzels. I can even include the pretzels in the candy buffet.

I was at a bbq wedding where the bride's mother took fabric covered in a colorful hot chili pepper print to match the hot chili pepper lights and other use of hot chili peppers in decorating and made simple, one layer thick poly cotton aprons. For the ties she just sewed on growgrain (sp?) ribbon, so it was really just a matter of hemming two rectangles of fabric. If sewing isn't your thing, what about seeing if you can find somewhere that will personalize plain muslin aprons? Or stamp them yourself?
What about bandanas personalized with your names and wedding date?
drink coozies with your names and wedding date?
How about boxed chocolate truffles with chili pepper in them (some really fancy west coast chocolatier makes an assortment of chocolates with various chili and southwest flavors - not sure it sounds good to me but I guess someone must like them because they sell a lot. Probably can find recipes like that somewhere like that cooking channel's website because they often have chocolate with chili on certain of their cooking shows)
What about taking tins, filling them with your own special recipe of bbq rub, and topping them with personalized stickers?
I saw a place online that will put personalized labels on bbq sauce for wedding favors, or why not take a break, hit a nearby bbq contest or local flavor bbq restaurant as they might make either rub or bbq sauce with personal labels for you. Making your own rub is probably cheaper though if cost is a consideration.
Hello,
Hey friend if you are planning informal reception then you can also try beach favors, quite suitable for informal wedding or reception.

Have you thought about using some cheap personalized disposable items? Paper plates and napkins would be perfect for a BBQ style banquet. There are a lot of sites that offer these services incredibly cheap.
Coozies would also be nice. Lots of companies offer these as well and they aren't too expensive. You could either get a lot of disposable custom items or one reusable one for people. When I think BBQ I think a lot of paper plates, drinks, and napkins.
We are likely having at least part of our reception outdoors and are getting the napkins with our name, the date, and our picture on them. To save money we're also ordering some plain ol' napkins so people can save the personalized ones as souvenirs.

BBQ type of food in a buffet style is a great idea. As you said you can go for chocolate or candy favors as give aways.

My only concerns about a candy buffet would be that if your reception is going to be outdoors in the summer, it could get a little warm and chocolates could get kind of melty and messy! Other candies could be good though!
I also really like the ideas of lemonade mixes or koozies (if you're planning to have drinks in cans).
Another option might be personalized "stadium" cups that people can use during the reception and then take home after! We did these at our rehearsal dinner that said "stolen from Jeff and Sandy's rehearsal dinner" and everyone got a good laugh out of them!

Hey guys - this thread is actually a year old - somebody new to the board dug it up last night so hopefully this person already has their favors figured out! :)

Yeah the OP 'Karissa&Bryan' hasn't been around since June, and her wedding was supposed to be in June ... so I doubt she is coming back.
Nothing wrong with continuing the convo if it will help someone else in a similar situation though :)

I have a bad habit of not taking note of the date. I just see it in the list and read away lol

I am sure you are not the only one; especially when someone else digs it up ;)

The sad thing is I looked at the wedding date on the first post, but I only saw the month and the year didn't even register!

I agree! Summer is approaching and you never know who could use this help. I sometimes read older ones just because if one bride asked I'm sure there is another out there with the same questions... I gotta say 0W is better then any book I have found on weddings because at some point someone asked a question about almost everything!
Ps~ BBQ favors... I love the idea of a personalize rub or bbq sauce. The rub can be done super cheap too. I would buy bulk or random salt and pepper shakers from thrift stores and such. Fill them with the rub, get the personalized lil stickers for candies or envelopes and put it over the top where the holes are (so it doesn't leak) and tie a ribbon around the top ta make it a lil cute. Or put seran wrap over the top then screw the lid on and make labels on your home pc!!

Adult sized bibs printed with names and date and handed out to guests to keep bbq sauce off of fancy duds is a good idea. And very original.
Check out a promo gift company in your area, these places are much cheaper than wedding favor companies, and you would be surprised at all the goodies you can order.
