I might just give this a try! Im looking online. Cant find any large stencil anywhere. Let alone avalon font. I wonder what the cost would be to have it printed on something and then use an exacto knife to cut it out. Hmm Anyone ever try this? Or doing this? Maybe want to do this?

I just spent the last few hours working on mine, I forget what I bad painter I am. Anyway I think I am doing it more or less the same way the other people here did. I just printed up my design on a bunch of sheets of paper off my computer, taped them together and but that under the runner. I also covered the paper in plastic wrap, others has suggested wax paper but I didn't have any around. Then you just trace the image and paint it. I tried just painting without tracing with a pencil first and it did not work out well for me. Other than making a custom stencil yourself I have not seen any letters big enough for a monogram in the stores either.

A few of us have done aisle runners or banners. There is a thread (+ instructions) about it here -

I am really thinking of doing this. MY issue i that I don't know if I make a poster print out. Never done that before. I guess I will try today.. lol.

Am I getting this right? I place the poster print out under the runner and trace? If thats the case then I will be able to use the fonts weblady used for my monogram.

What types of paint and tools should I use? Any suggestions on what NOT to do?

Ok what do I do if I dont have poster size in my properties on my printer? I only have banner?

I don't remember exactly but I believe I did it banner and it just prints all the sheets you need.

I couldn't see the print out beneath my banner on the floor so I had to trace it first by taping it all up on the window. If you can see through your runner, just tape the printout to the back of the runner and paint away :)

I used regular acrylic paints & paint brushes - bigger brushes for filling in and thinner brushes for painting the outline/edge of each letter. You could use fabric paints if you want to or if you plan to machine wash it after but, they are more expensive. You could even use poster paint if you aren't going to wash it or hang it out in the elements.

I also used wonderunder (double sided fusible web) and fabric for the butterflies. If you have matching fabric and if your letters aren't too delicate you could even do the monogram out of fabric. It's fairly easy ... first you iron on some wonderunder, trace and cut out your letters (in reverse) and then flip them over and iron them on the runner.

I see that mine has thin paper with it. When I roll that out at the church. Am I supposed to discard that paper? Or roll it out with the aisle runner?

I didn't have a runner so I can't say for sure but, I would think that you discard it.

Is it a fabric runner or vinyl of some kind? The paper may be there to prevent static?

It is fabric.

To make my aisle runner I used an overhead projector and taped the fabric to the wall to trace. Then I painted it with acrylic paints and outlined with black sharpie. I used a poly linen aisle runner so it was really easy to trace and paint. I think a solid fabric should be fine too, maybe better as the paint might not soak through so much but the sharpie might run. I put wax paper down on the table and layed the aisle runner over the wax paper before I painted.

I have also made "Here Comes the Bride" Banners for others using adhesive vinyl lettering. This would be a another option that produces VERY nice clear results, although it's not as permanent as paint since the lettering isn't fused with the fabric, but it should hold up just fine for the big day. You can see photos of an example on my blog too. I'm sure I could do a decal for an aisle runner if you think you'd be interested in something like that. I'd just need to know the size, color, etc. to give you a quote.

And if you want a stencil I might be able to make one of those as well...depending on the size and text.

You can check out my blog (in my profile) if you want; I also posted some other DIY projects here -

Laura :-)

it's a back breaker let me tell ya... lol

It is (and it is the part I didn't tell ya) but as you can see, the personal satisfaction is great too :)

It took me about 8 hours to do each of our banners. I worked at it on a table but my back, shoulders and neck still suffered.

What I did was put the entire thing on a thick black cardboard. So I can move it to the floor if needed

I'd love to see a photo!

They DO take a lot of time but I will say our runner and banner were two things I got many compliments on; surprisingly most people had never seen or heard of them before! But, outside of wedding forums, I had not seen banners/aisle runners used at any of the weddings I'd been to either. I had a good time working on these projects and with all the great comments I receive it was well worth the many, many hours I spent working on them. They make for FABULOUS photos!

Honesty, I really didn't think it would turn out. But I am pleased
