Hi all! So my sister asked me to make some food for the baby shower. She prefers vegetarian, because during her pregnancy meat has been making her sick. So, I need some vegetarian appetizer/snack/lunch ideas. We're hoping for about 20 people- maybe more. I was thinking a pasta salad, and some finger foods.

I need some creative/unique ideas :)

Also, her mother in law is throwing the party. She said she didn't know what she was doing yet, so I asked her if I could do the diaper raffle and she said yes. Any of you have any game ideas that are easy/fun that I might have for backup in case she's not prepared?

We have the diaper raffle, and I'm thinking we'll do the "poopy diaper" game (different chocolate bar in a diaper, microwaved - guests have to guess which chocolate bars are in which diapers). Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance!

I love the poopy diaper game! At the last baby shower I went to, I won it. :winktongue: If I were you, I'd microwave the bar, THEN put it in the diaper. Melting plastic and all.

Also a fun game? Guess the baby food flavor. Do a blind taste test and make them guess if it's peas, sweet potato, etc.

Just try to avoid embarrassing stuff, like, "guess how many toilet paper sheets will fit around the mom's belly."

For food, you could do some tortilla swirly things. Just fill them with stuff like pimento cheese, peanut butter/chopped apples, onion dip, etc, then slice them up. Cheese is always welcome, as are dips and a fruit/veg tray. Salad is good and easy to mass produce.

Haha, did this idea come from Scrubs?

I don't have any ideas for a baby shower, but I will suggest going to the library to look for books with ideas. I used to do shelving at a library, and books on stuff like that were always quite popular, and they seemed to have some very cute ideas.

Thank you! I love the wrap idea... never heard of doing them with peanut butter and apples! That's a great idea!

I will have to talk to her MIL and see if she has any games planned.... depending on what she's doing, I'm going to plan the poopy diaper game, the baby food game, and of course, the diaper raffle :)

This is so fun!

You could make a yummy bruschetta! I can't find my stupid recipe for it either - I was going to type it out for you and it seems to have run away.

I do have a recipe for a speciality non-alcoholic drink that is deeeeeelicious that I'll give you though. We made this for my mom's 50th birthday - they weren't a big drinking bunch so we wanted to do something special without the booze.

Border Grill's Minty Lime Cooler
(this recipe serves four but obviously you could make more)
1 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
1/4 cup packed mint leaves
1/3 cup sugar or more to taste
2 cups club soda
mint sprigs and lime wedges to garnish
1. Blend lime juice and mint in blender until finely chopped. Remove from blender, stir in sugar.
2. Add ice to 12 oz glasses. Add 1/4 cup of lime/mint mix and 1/2 cup club soda to each glass. Stir. Garnish w/ mint and lime.

It's so tasty! :)

Wow I haven't been to many baby showers, all the games sound fun!!!
As far as vegetarian food goes there's a lot of really good vegetarian chili and stew recipes online that you could have going in a crock pot if people want something filling. Also, my mom makes these really good waterchestnuts that you bake in barbeque sauce then put toothpicks in for appetizers, mozarella stick and all those are good ideas for people that don't eat meat. If all else fails there's always desserts!! haha

Thank you! My sister is not 100% vegetarian - you know how pregnant women are. One day they're vegetarian, the next they'll eat the hide right off the cow. Anyway, she told me most of the time meat repulses her, but sometimes it doesn't. She's had a very weak stomach with this pregnancy. However, she asked me to make piggies in a blanket - one of my specialties. I just hope that if I do make them, she'll be able to stomach them come the shower!

Also most likely pasta salad and fruit salad with toothpicks are on the list!

How nice of you to do this for her! :D A fun game my moms, friends, daughter did.. Put little plastic babies in ice in their drinks.. When the ice melts, you have to be the first one to call 'MY WATER BROKE' haha.

Please do!!!!! Post em here :)

I am not sure how to hold all the diapers together... is it just the ribbon around the outside or is there a way you keep them together without ruining them??

I used a large rubberband, and then put the ribbon over the rubber band
