Hey guys. For those of you who are registering for gifts I was just curious what type of things are you registering for or did you register for. For those of you married, what types of things did you receive?
I am planning on register for....
*black toaster
*black coffee pot
*black can opener
*nice flatwear (sp)
*new dishes
http://www.kohls.com.edgesuite.net/is/image/kohls/c4500?wid=230&hei=230&op_sharpen=1 (javascript:launchEnlargedImage('http://www.kohls.com/products/product_enlarge_scene7.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=300 440171&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=360073223&bmUID=1149693773769'))
I have seen some pretty china, but I would never use it!

I didnt mess with all of that. Brian and I had EVERYTHING we could possibly need. If he didnt have it, I did and vice versa. But weve been on our own for so long, weve collected lots of stuff.
Sounds like you have it down though. Thats the kind of stuff I have seen on most registeries.

We registered for all those things, we asked for mikasa china (got it all too) new pots set, knife set, mostly kitchen things because we either didn't have it or it was hand me downs from when we went to college.
We ended up getting a fair amount of crystal, a couple vases and more decorative stuff that we wouldn't use alot now. But we really will enjoy later. We also received some things that we already had like a new toaster oven, small crock pot, and 2 knife sets. I think this is mostly because people didn't read our registry. So i would suggest that you do your best to let people know where you are registered if you are not going to send the cards in your invitations.
You can find lists on line of what you might need, go through them and cross of the the things you know you really don't need or want. That will help when you are in the store. It gets a little overwhelming at time.
Have Fun!

How would you 'register' for a dining room set?? We don't want to literally ask for money, and don't believe in a money tree or anything like that. We have almost everything we need already, but really really need a a new dining set.

For countrygirl:
JCPenny, Sears, Hechts have dining room sets.
For Kacie_bride:
Dear, you can register almost anywhere, Linens and Things, Things Remembered, Pier One Imports, JCPenny's, Hechts, Sears, Target, Bed, Bath and Beyond, Bath & Body Works, etc. There is an endless list of places to register.
You can register for anything as much or as little as you want. These are just options for guests to see, pick and choose what to get you and FH. ;)

We also registered at the Bay and for any future Canadians who come on this site and see this thread DO NOT REGISTER THERE!!! They did nothing but dick me around!! Nine and a half months after the wedding we FINALLY recieved our last bit of china!! NINE AND A HALF MONTHS!!! And when I asked them what they were going to do to make things right, they told me NOTHING! The Bay can kiss my @ss, they didn't do anything to help us and they don't care about a person as an individual! I told them at the store that I am going to tell everyone I meet not to register there! Their reply was "is that necessary??" And I replyed "After waiting nearly a year after our wedding, I sure as hell think it is!!!" So take this for what its worth Canadians....go for the rip off or find a place that really wants your business!! Ok...now I've got that off my chest! Thank you!! :)

I know I can register anywhere. I have pretty much decided I'm registering at Kohl's and Bed Bath and Beyond. I was just curious as to what everyone else is doing. I just wanted something to talk about.

My question on that is, how do you politely ask people to help you w such a large item, w/out actually asking. I can't stand it when people register for expensive things that they know people can't aford, but if there is a way to do it, and maybe have a 'tab' (for lack of better terms) going for the money for it.

Maybe talk to your MOH about setting up some type of fund for you where your guests can submit money to it somehow. You can get your close friends and family to help spread the news.

We do have the wedding website, but again, I hate acutally asking for anything. I hate the idea of registering, but I know that there are things that we could really use. Especially w four kids in the house.

I don't think there is anything wrong with registering. When I buy a gift for someone for a wedding or baby shower gift I LOVE to get the lists and go searching for the stuff I know they really want! To me it's so much easier. I don't think anyone will get offended by you registering.

I agree, Kacie, I loved getting the registry list and going shopping for exactly what the person wants. That was so much fun. Don't feel bad about that, Heather, your friends and family will love doing that for you! I know I would.

Sean and I registered at Kaufmanns which is now Macy's, Williams Sonoma, and Target. We got almost everything from Target and WS on our registitreis there. We got some of our china and none of our crystal. We only got about 5 wedding gifts and eveything else came in money form. Which is fine. I plan on finsihing off my china and crystal with that money anyway. I think it will be fun to drive up to the mall and blow $3000 on housewares!

I do love buying things for other people. It's a blast. But I just don't like asking for things. I guess I need to get used to that for the time being, huh??

Yes, it's a special occasion, Heather, and they are going to want to do this for you. I'm so happy for you, I hope you get every single thing you want.

Trust me you get that little scanner in your hand, and the power of gift getting takes over. It is a lot of fun.
You aren't asking for gifts. People can buy you whatever they like. I had several people not buy from our registry. But yo are making it easier for people who would like to get you something by giving them a guideline of what you might like or need.
When you are giving someone a wedding gift you want it to be as special as the occasion. You want them to like it. I have very classical tastes in things. Sean's sister who got married last year has very modern taste in things. It would have been very hard for me to pick out osmething for her shower and wedding that she liked. So I used her registry. The same goes for my best friend. She loves that down home country look which is totally not me. Without her registry it would have been a disaster when I tried to pick her out something. Look at it as guiding not insisting.

We registerd for EVERYTHING! Nothing we have is super nice (except our home theatre system) so we would like to have better things that we just haven't been able to afford. We registered to replace all of our kitchen appliances and utensils in red, better dishes & flatware, new bedding, decorations, camping equipment, outdoor patio things, etc. We covered nearly everything you could think of as well as every price range!
Kacie_bride
06-08-2006, 05:18 PM
I am going to cover all price ranges too! I have done some looking around to scope things out a bit already. I know there are a lot of kitchen gadgets that are only a few bucks that I intend to register for.
Also Katie, I am like you. Justin only graduated and got a "real" job a year and a half ago and since then I have not worked until I finish school in December. Like Lacey said in another post, it puts a big financial strain on us. Therefore, most of our stuff are hand me downs and not the kind of quality we would really like. (I do have some really nice things like a mixer that I got for Christmas and other things, so I can't really complain.)
I plan on registering for some things are more high end as well. People do not have to buy it and some people in my family might want to spend more money on me. It is their choice. And who is to say that a couple of people may want to go in together and get one big gift? I've done that before for people.

We are registered at Target and Bed Bath and Beyond. We are talking about registering at kohls too. But we found most of the main stuff at the other stores so it would only be decor stuff we put on the list at Target.
I also hate asking for gifts, expecially expensive ones. I had a hard time putting anything over $40 on the registry. Steve had to take the scanner/gun and do it. He kept telling me that people will buy more expensive things, it's ok. But it's just not me to ask for stuff like that!

Me personally I think I would rather do it at the store because I like to see things in person most of the time.

Mark and i started to register about 6-7 months in advance. We did a little bit at a time cause we could only think of so much that we needed.
The kinda crummy but not crummy thing about doing that was that we got things off our registry for birthday and christmas gifts. It was great to get stuff we would need in the future. But it would have been nice to get somthing we could have enjoyed at that time.

We also registered sisx months in advance, but luckily only Matt's birthday was in that time frame and who gives a man kitchen appliances for his birthday really...lol. We had a few things go out of season and such and we had to go back when the spring and summer seasonal stuff came in to see if we wanted to register for any of that.
And Lacey's right, once you get that scanner in your hands....watch out! lol. We registered for a couch and fridge! However we had the option of taking those off the main list and could only have told who we wanted. But they did add to our list that we would gladly accept any gift certificates. At the end of it all, we got 10% off anything on our list that wasn't bought. So we were going to put the gift certicates towards the couch but then I decided I didn't like it! lol...we did however buy the mini fridge and a lot of other things....:)

I was thinking of not registering until August when the fall stuff is starting to come out. But then again I was not planning on really registering for any seasonal items.

I think that I need to register in the next few weeks. Since we have alot of fam coming from out to state, and we have to send the invites in the next month, we should prob register soon.

We started to register about 6-7 months before the wedding date. We just passed the the 4 month on Wednesday, so we "updated" it. I also prefer to go to the store and see the stuff in person. Although I have been going online when I decide to delete something or add something that I had seen in the store. I saw a lot of seasonal stuff I like, but I'm afraid to put anything on the list because I know how early the change out stuff to put in new stuff. I expect to see the fall stuff out by August.

About August is when the stores all get their fall merchandise in. I know this all to well because I spent several years in what I call retail hell. That is a big reason why I am not registering until August.

Oh I know, I spent a few years in retail too. By mid October they start putting out christmas stuff already! A little to early for my taste. I love Christmas and decorating for it, but I won't even think about it till Novemeber some time!
