ok so i just started planning, because we only recently found the spot for the ceremony. trouble is, we can't have the reception in the same place. since the wedding's in san francisco and it's going to be quite a drive for everyone (8 hrs for my family, cross-country for his!) we thought it would be best to snag a vacation rental where we can have a party and a good amount of people can sleep for the night. but in the san francisco area it seems like everything's way too high-end. not only hugely expensive, but too nice to have a drunken bash in. what he have in mind is a house with a lot of floor space and beds (and preferrably a back yard), minus the fine china and antique furniture that all these rentals seem to have in and around SF. but i'm having a lot of trouble finding anything like this. any ideas?

Have you looked into camps like 4H camps? We were going to have our wedding at a 4H camp. We would of had the mess hall for the reception, the lawn for the ceremony, a cabin just for us, and cabins for our guests. People could also camp out in a tent if they wanted to. We decided against it because we'd have to bring in our own alcohol and bar. It's worth checking out though.

I'd also look at girl scout camps and camp grounds too. Or if there are any small county fair grounds...thats what we are using for our reception hall!! plenty of room!!!

Craigslist is pretty good for finding homes to rent out too, for occasions like weddings. It may be worth checking out.
