I went to a consignment shop today to try and sell them my name brand clothes (it's called Plato's Closet, pretty cool store), and they bought 3 shirts from me out the over 20 things I had. So I wanna try and sell the rest on Ebay.

I was wondering if anyone here sells stuff on there and has any advice for it. Like, how do you know how much to charge for shipping? Is there an extra charge for including more than one picture?

Any advice anyone has would be excellent.

They do charge you to post more than one picture, but you can host the pictures on photobucket and use the HTML link to post as many as you want ;)

You will pay a percentage of your sale price when your item sells, I think there is still a small listing fee even if it doesn't sell.

I would search for similar things selling on ebay and see how their listings are set up.

:goodluck:

Here is a pretty good article re: selling on Ebay - http://www.ehow.com/how_2371644_calculate-ebay-selling-fees.html

Here is another re: Calculating eBay And PayPal fees

I've tried selling stuff on Ebay. I've not had any luck. Having a high rating helps which I didn't have. Every time I was out at least $3 for each posting. I don't know if they have raised the prices since. You can check the cost of shipping on the UPS website or the USPS website. You could also take the package to your local post office or UPS store to see how much shipping would cost.

yes there is a listing fee regardless if the item sells or not. If it does sell there's a percentage.
They have a great selling basics section: http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/selling-basics.html

As for shipping... you need to decide if you're going to ship outside of the US. If so where?

I don't because I tried it a few times and had a horrible time with customs and all that.

Now this requires some research. You need to have figured out about how much your item is going to weigh (including packaging). then what I did from there is go to the usps website: http://www.usps.com/tools/calculatepostage/welcome.htm?from=home_header&page=calculatepostage to calculate the postage costs. I just picked the furthest point from me (I'm in MI so I looked up postage to Los Angeles).

Don't forget to add the cost of shipping supplies! First couple of times I lost out on money because I didn't add that cost to it.

I know eBay UK works out the postage for You automatically.

DH sells on there now and again. Sometimes it's easier for the Buyer to collect. Which i know is a lot easier in the UK because everything is so much nearer. I've driven all over picking Auction Wins up.
I can't see the local Postman walking down the street carrying Two Leather Sofas, Three Floor to Ceiling Wardrobe Doors, A Dining Table and Four Chairs, Two Dolls Houses or a Car. Then trying to get them through the letter box

eBay do charge a listing fee. Then a fee for each photo and then a percentage of the final sale. But now and again they have "Free Listing Days" where the advert is free or the pictures are. It's worth looking out for those. Then mass selling at once if possible.

Paypal is easier for the payments as You are protected should anything go wrong. I know people who make a living on eBay and that is their only form of income.

I've got an attic full of stuff that can go on there. The theory is great. But finding time to put theory into practice is another thing with Me

There's a local pick up option for here in the USA as well, but those items are usually harder to sell.

I sometimes wonder if it is better to sell in lots....
