I know a few people on here were either planning on making truffles for wedding favors or did make them. I am thinking about making them but do not want to get in over my head since the recipe I found says they can only be made 3 days in advanced. We want to do chocolate rolled in gold sugar (found it online) since FH is graduating the morning of the wedding and our school colors are black and gold. It does not match the wedding at all but they would be in boxes anyway. How long did it take you to make them, and how many you made per person? Did they go over well with your guests? Anything I should keep in mind before doing something like this?

I didn't do them for a wedding, but I did make them for the holidays this year.

I have a VERY easy recipe basically bakers chocolate & cream cheese.
It took no time at all to make them. what takes the most time is waiting for the mix to cool enough so that you can roll them
I used a teaspoon scoop with that spring loaded separator thingy so they were a lot less messy.
I didn't work very hard at making mine round since I was calling them "coal" for their stockings

oh and mine are covered in melted chocolate so you would be using a lot less chocolate than I did.

i did powdered sugar and oreos and cream cheese (i think i could find the actual recipe if u need) My mom kept them for like over a month and served them for dessert etc.. they were fine.. we rolled ours in things like jello powder (its like flavored sugar) we had a white chocolate dip, rolled them in nuts, in more oreos, in shaved white chocolate, etc

we decided against doing them for the wedding, but they were REALLY good when we made them and everybody loved them that ate them!!! :)

Lumps of coal, that is so cute!

If they last a month the time crunch wouldn't be that big a deal. I would still probably wait until like the week of the wedding but I was picturing myself at 3am the night before the wedding making truffles. I love the look of the decorative favor boxes but don't like the idea of jordan almonds, just don't care for them.

the assembly of them isn't hard at all. if you have everything else set (the boxes, tags, etc.) and ready to just add the truffles.
would that help?

I recently made the chocolates for a friend's wedding. In order to have uniform size we used heart shaped chocolate molds. First we melted some chocolate, then we used teaspoons to fill the bottom of the mold, then we melted some caramels and put just a dob in each. Then we used teaspoons full of more melted chocolate to finish up. You could just make plain dark chocolate hearts though, and by sprinkling the gold sugar in the molds first I think it might turn out. You could test real easily without even having to buy the molds just find something small like the bottom of a cupcake pan, put a layer of the sugar in the bottom and melt a few chocolates in the microwave.

I've never seen the gold sugar in person. If it's rather like normal table sugar I'm sure it would work great to roll chocolate truffles in as a finishing touch. I've made tons over the years rolled in all sorts of things I just google up a recipe that includes instructions for rolling them in nuts or cocoa. I think the ones in that one picture look yummy but they seem to be chocolate dipped and that might not work so well for what you want. For one thing, they don't look all the uniform. They do look yummy though and hey, ultimately people are just going to eat the candy!
