Making our dresses....

Hey everyone! Has anyone here had their mom (or another family member/friend) make their dress? My mom will be making mine, and we (my sister and I, and maybe Mom if she has time) will be making the BM dresses. There are only 3 BM, and it's a relatively easy pattern. :) I'm a little nervous. My mom is a wonderful seamstress, and my sister and I are fairly competent, but I'm still a slight bit nervous. I'm going down to visit them (in NC) this weekend, and we're going to a huge fabric store to pick out all the fabrics!!! :whoohoo: I'm really excited!!

Can't say that I have, but my FH's mother did for his sister's wedding. I have seen photos and it all turned out really nice but apparently the few days before the wedding were insane with alterations. One piece of advice just from hearing them talk about it so much is if she is making it put off the flower girl dress as long as possible or she will just have to end up remaking it in the end. Have fun!

Oh yeah, I forgot to add we're making the flower girls dresses too! There will be two of them (my soon to be step daughter, and my neice). We're only about 5 months away, so we'll probably make them a size up just in case! :)

My mom made my dress + two bridesmaid dresses for my first wedding. The good thing about doing it that way is that you get the colour your want in the exact style that you want.

My first marriage may have ended but I love that dress! I still have it because it was my Mom's labour of love, given to me. :)

I know that uptowngirl's mom made her gorgeous dress with her, since she fell in love with a nearly identical wedding gown that was way too expensive. I think the finished result looks better than the one she liked! You can see her wedding here:
