We're supposed to be going to Wisconsin for Christmas so we can spend it with our families. We were going to leave really early on Wednesday morning so we could be there for Christmas Day. Our mini needs a new fuel pump, so DH says that since insurance is covering it, we'll just take the rental car up, no big deal.
Well....he calls me today and says sorry, but we can't go. 2 days before we're supposed to leave! That the mini will be ready on Friday (which it really won't, because the dealer we had to take it to that works with the insurance company doesn't know what the problem is even. We only know because we took it to a mini dealer before, but insurance won't cover it if we take it there.) and that Enterprise is saying the car will need to be back on Friday when the car is done being fixed and even if it's not fixed, that we have to "check in" with them....with the car.
WTF?! My whole family and his whole family was working their schedules around us and DH isn't even trying to find a solution to the problem. He just said "Well my family is used to me not being there, there's nothing I can do about it". I asked if we can just have the rental for Enterprise for the 2 extra days and just pay for it and he said no...Grrrrrr. He's been promising since I've moved down here that we'd be home for Christmas. We can't even get plane tickets home now because it's so close to Christmas and they're way too expensive.
I'm so mad I could just scream.

That really sucks. I know I'm heading home on Wednesday afternoon for Christmas - luckily its only an hour away from where I live but they are calling for snow/rain so I'm kinda dreading the driving trip.
Is there anyway that you could pay for the rental the extra time with your own money? Men don't seem to get the bigger picture and sometimes forget the importance of being with family for the holidays.
Off topic a bit but were you in an accident and that is why the insurance company is paying for the repair? If so, I hope everyone is ok.
Grrr! Can you call them up and try to figure out a solution? Sometimes lame companies won't help out people until people throw a fit. I hate giving people a hard time, but it may be worth it in this instance.

I asked him if we could just pay for the 2 extra days with our own money. His only response was "No". I kind of get the feeling he doesn't even want to go home.....so I might take the matters into my own hands. I know he feels a little bad though, because he called back and I was crying a little. I miss my mom and was looking forward to seeing her so much! :(
DH got into a small accident right off of base, but it wasn't involving any other cars and he didn't get hurt at all. He thought the car was just fine until he got into the car the next day and started it up. The power steering makes this really horrible high pitched whine that doesn't stop. The mini dealer said it's the power steering pump.

I can't imagine not being with family and then, having the plans and only days before not going. That would be heartbreaking *hugs*. I hope you're able to work something out and that he realizes how much this means to you.

I say take it into your own hands and pay for the rental car yourself or take a bus or something. I don't know how you do your finances with your DH but FH and I have a joint account and we each have our own so in a case like this, I would just use my own money and get home.
I hope you can get home for Christmas! I can't stand to be away from family for holidays.

I say do what you have to. My Fh was perfectly fine leaving his family for Christmas but I'm borderline devastated that my parents won't be around, and they only live an hour and a half away! He just isn't affected by stuff like that like I am.

Yesterday the guy at Enterprise wrote out the paper work wrong when we went to get the rental car and put that we didn't have to check the car back in until Monday, the 29th....and we didn't correct them.....so.....we're going home! Yay!
We did have a little talk about the way the situation was handled though....him not really caring that much about the plans falling through, and me getting all upset and crying.......yeah, could have been handled a little better on both of our parts.
But I'm sooooo happy that I get to see my mom! I actually teared up a little when I was talking to her on the phone last night because I'm so happy to be going home to her! My dad (step, who raised me since I was little) passed away when I was 16, so I'm very close with my mom and we try at all costs to be there for her for all holidays and days that she would feel extra lonely. My older brother can't be home for Christmas this year since he's deployed in Korea, so she was already sad about that and I really didn't want to leave her with 2 kids not there. Yayyyyy! I'm so excited now. Sorry about my little rant yesterday.
On a side note, our rental car is an HHR. And I'm pretty sure I really like it....a lot.

Glad you can make it home for Christmas. Have a safe trip, I know it's been pretty wintery up here.
