I came across this today and just wanted to share it!! It made me laugh!! Here's to all us country folk!!

A Cowboy's Guide to Life

1. Don't squat with your spurs on.
2. Don't interfere with something that ain't bothering you none.
3. If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.
4. Always drink upstream from the herd.
5. Telling a man to git and making him do it are two entirely different propositions.
6. When you give a personal lesson in meanness to a critter or to a person don't be surprised if they learn their lesson.
7. If you're riding ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it's still back there.
8. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it over and put it back in your pocket.
9. If you get to thinking you're a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else's dog around.
And one of the most important ones out there:
10. And never, ever, miss a good opportunity to shut up.

My 13 year old son had to get a lesson in tolerance. He also had to get a crash course in racism. He didnt understand what it was until we moved to this stupid town. EVERYBODY of EVERY race here is a racist. I honestly dont think anybody likes anybody. Hes not used to that and doesnt like it one bit. I had to explain to him that he has his views and beliefs and others had theirs. That didnt mean he had change his way of thinking, but he did have to learn to live with people that saw things different. Hes gotten into a couple of squabbles protecting someone being picked on.

Your son will make a great man one day Cindy!! That sucks about your city. I think everyone in this world (including me) could learn a lesson on tolerance some days!! Thanks for sharing with us!! :)

sounds like you have a very smart son Cindy...job well done! I never try and put anyone down...I always try and learn from others, even if they are different than me, but I have encountered some problems thru my life as being labled a "hick" or "ignorant" or "hillbilly"...just because we work the land with our hands and raise animals and if you catch us in town on the weekends we're covered in dirt (most likely because we had to come and pick up a part of something). My FH and I are very hard working, educated people (we both have college degrees) who CHOSE to live a country lifestyle because after a hard day of work we can sit on the porch and look out across the fields and know in our hearts that God is good, life is good and from hard work comes pride in knowing that we will be able to have a bountiful harvest because of our hard work, and there ain't no shame in that...I am PROUD to be country and I am very tolerant and have no problem with different people, it's the different people that look down their noses and don't execute tolerance themselves that tick me off!

OK...stepping off my soapbox...sorry!

Hee hee! I didn't know this was going to turn into a life style debate! lol. I agree with you one hundred percent Ellen! Us country folk put the food on EVERYONE'S table. That canola oil your using, yup we grow it. That beer your drinkin, yup we grow the barley for that too!! And that wheat thats in your bread, sure as heck that came from our crop too!! lol. Thats how I look at it. :)
