I'm watching this right now on the Style network...I'm sure they'll rerun it 800 more times, since that what the cable channels do.

But it's pretty interesting - it's hosted by Laila Ali and it basically is sort of just an up to date, modern way at looking at what the wedding party can and can't get away with in terms of styling.

Just wanted to put it out there - if you come across it you might want to stop and watch for a little while. So far it's been a great way to kill some time on a lazy Sunday afternoon...:)

Hahahaha - Well, honestly it was more of a time killer than it was a real informative 60 minutes style piece - but let's see if I can share with you a few things they enlightened me with today.

1. Mariah Carey's first wedding she channeled Princess Di and had a train that was over 20 feet long. That's a don't.
2. Don't go too trendy - like if you look at pictures from 80's weddings you KNOW they were 80's weddings because they had big ol' Dynasty-style shoulder pads and cascading veils of lace and beading. Not to mention the Designing Women/Delta Burke style ginormous hair. So you should try to do something "timeless" so when you look at these pictures in ten years you don't say "ah man, why did I wear that?"
3. Apparently trend-setter Sarah Jessica Parker wore black to her wedding and regrets it. Huh. Who knew?
4. Your guests better not wear white. It's rude. Black used to be a no no but now it's cool.
5. Bridsmaids shouldn't be too matchy-matchy. Apparently they look creepy when they have the same shoes, same accessories, same hair style, etc. They were verging on saying that the same dress is about to run its course.
6. Men shouldn't rent clothes. I think the joke was if you want to get in pants you shouldn't be renting them.
7. You shouldn't think about comfort unless it's your feet.
8. Apparently Vera Wang has been in weddings where she had to wear a horrible bridesmaid's dress.
9. When Betsy Johnson's daughter got married she had Vera Wang design her dress, instead of having her mother do it. I thought that was kind of funny.

That's about all I remember - but I think you get the gist. You'll be more than prepared without having watched this hour of television...hehe :)

I can understand that. As much as I like her style and willingness to try new combos... I don't know if I want a loose cannon style wise making my dress... :bbeek:

Oh, heck yeah, me too. I just thought it was kind of funny, envisioning how that conversation went. Uh, mom, you know how you're a famous fashion designer? Yeah, well, I really think another one would really be more fitting and appropriate.

Sort of cracked me up...:)

I watched it simply because it was on :) I thought some of the Don't advice was a little critical at some points, but it was mostly good.

I agree that bridesmaids wearing the same dress is on the way out. People are having the same color different style philosphy, I don't care what you get as long as it's "x" color, or having the MOH wear a different dress than the bridesmaids.

What I asked of my MOHs was that they stay within certain requests. Other than that they could get whatever they'd like, in any style that they felt looked best on them.
I asked that they be tea to knee length, and stay with in the colors which were lemon chiffon, aqua, & chartreuse -it sounds so much uglier than it is.

When I was growing up I remember cousins, aunts, & friends complaining over the dress that was chosen for them when they were in a wedding or a quinceanera (sweet 15) either about the cut, the fit, the cost, etc.
So I just let them deal with it. I don't care if they're all in one color, I get one of each, or any combination in between -they can deal with all that.

Yeah I told my girls get it from Alfred Angelo in the color butter. However, I had to give my sister another stipulation. She bought boobs, and has no issue showing them to the world. I told her I'd appreciate it if she kept the girls covered. Wouldn't you know she picked the only dress that would showcase her boobs. I told her I didn't like the fabric, and gave her a list of other dresses that I absolutely loved that didn't show off boobs. She hasn't ordered one yet.

yah, i watched that when i first got engaged over a year ago! its been re running alot huh?
another one they had was tiaras. i know some people love them, but i tend to agree. i think this might be one of those trend things like pill box hats.. its very now, but its not going to be timeless unless your ACTUALLY royality they said :)

I'm glad though that they stated the difference between a tiara headband, and a "Hey I'm a prom queen" tiara and stated that the headband tiaras aren't really seen as being tacky and can be done right.... maybe I also was glad they did because I had a headband tiara :)

Yeah, but they also showed the tasteful tiara headbands on Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johanson - and those were indeed rather awesome. :) The Princess Di comparisons were fully abundant with some of the stuff they showed though...hahaha...!

Yeah that is what I was saying, I was glad that they said there was a difference in those full blown Princess Di tiaras and the simple headbands :)

I would think those big huge ones would weigh your head down. I wouldn't be able to hold my head up haha

Gotta say... I've watched this show at least twice ~ and I think it's ridiculous. They tell you "don't do this" and "do this" but then they say at the end "do whatever you want to do, it is YOUR wedding"... which completely ignores most of what they said. I think it's just another wedding piece and people (like us) watch a lotta wedding shows. I will be breaking at least three of their rules... my gown will be pink or have pink in it (they say no color in gowns), my bridesmaids dresses WILL match, and I am wearing a small/headband tiara.

I think it is just like in any industry; there are always some general/traditional "guidelines" that people may want to follow, but ultimately it is all up to the couple how they want their wedding to be, how they want to celebrate and what traditions or guidelines they want to follow ;)
