Just curious if anyone here plays an instrument?

I am starting to teach myself how to play piano. I took a semester of music theory in high school and I understand the concept of how to read music, I know how to connect the key with the note on the staff, I just need to memorize like that when that note is on the staff at that place, this note gets played, and making it more natural.

I used to play bass clarinet and then clarinet for marching band. Then I learned a tiny bit of piano in my college music intro class... but that doesn't count for anything.

I play piano and I have a guitar that I know how to play in theory. I don't practice enough to actually get good at it. FH practices guitar all the time - he put it down for years and picked it back up a few months ago and now he's super good. I just never get into it - my fingers start to hurt and I just never put the time into it. I sit down and try to play a song and realize "hey, I could get up and go play this on the piano and it would be SO much easier..." and nine times out of ten that's what I do.

I also sing, which is probably the thing I'm the best at. But I don't like doing any of the above in front of other people! :)

I played the Clarinet from like 3rd grade up until I graduated High School. I then wanted to start up the violin earlier this year and bought one but haven't gotten motivated enough to learn it, it's difficult!

I didn't vote because none of the options exactly fit. I can play a little bit on the flute (like I know the notes and how to play...I just don't do it) and a few things on the piano. I guess with of them it's not so much that I can or can't play... just that I don't really do it ever.

I'm a such a geek ... I can play the organ (although I haven't played in years).

My parents bought one when I was a teen so that my Dad could "serenade my Mom in retirement". What this meant was that my brother and I had to take lessons with my Dad for 3 years. My brother and I managed to pick it up but my poor Dad struggled all the way along.

We learned all kinds of really exciting songs - NOT

Oh yes, and I also play a mean Kazoo! :)

I was a total band geek in school (main instrument was the french horn) and continued into Junior year of college. I was a Music Ed. major until I realized I didn't have the patience to teach. I have an acoustic guitar in a closet that I would like to start playing! Maybe I'll have DH buy me guitar lessons for Christmas...

I voted more than one...

I know the Piano, Clarinet, and the Bagpipes (yes the bagpipes. My mom played in our high school band and she taught me when I was younger!).

I played clarinet in school band and still pick it up from time to time. I would really love to start playing it more often. I have an amazing Buffet clarinet that my mom passed down to me from her school days. I just realized that thing is like 40 years old. :bbeek: I better take good care of it...

I think the clarinet I had was a Buffet. I got it on Ebay for $150. Now, I'd be lucky to get $20 for it... doesn't help that the keys are messed up and don't work right (I'm sure an instrument fixer could fix it). I wish I could pick it up and play again... though it'd probably only be squeaks.

I have an R13 Buffet Crampon in Bb. It was my mom's pride and joy...well besides me of course! ;) That's so awesome that you one for $150. Do you know which model it was? Ahhh, gotta love ebay! I'm sure that a few of my keys should be tightened and I should probably get it professionally cleaned. That's another thing that will have to wait though!

Hmm... I don't remember which model it was. It's at my parents' house. I should grab it next time I go there.

It was my pride and joy at the time too 'cause I always wanted to play clarinet and I finally had my own after playing bass clarinet for years. Ahh, the memories... :).

Sure do! I play the violin in the symphony here in town actually. I've been playing for about 16 years.

I also play a bit of guitar and piano, and I sing. But I'm not currently committed to those like I am with the violin.
