This is such a good idea.
I thought I’d create a little corner for myself to post what I’ve done so far and what I get done.

How we met:
We actually met online -7 years ago. On a bulletin board not unlike this one… only… not this one! We’d seen the other around and read each other’s threads, but never really talked. Eventually we started to talk and became really good friends. I had NO intentions of getting into a relationship –and told him so. His reply was “it’s ok I don’t think it’ll get to that. You’re so much younger than me (9 years) and you live so far away (He in MI & I in CA)”

Yeah… we were both wrong.:sweatdrop:

The Proposal (Copied from my blog):
May 9, 2007
So yesterday I was feeling blah.
I finally finally had finished with all of my classes and had shown my portfolio to my advisor and was DONE. So the two weeks of busting my a** were catching up with me.
So when I got home I ate dinner while lying in bed and didn't even finish it before I was asleep.
I know –pathetic.
So because I'd fallen asleep at 6pm and because the heat was so sudden and it was so humid, I was wide awake at 9:30.
Now, my family has this tradition of staying up until midnight the night before their birthday to wish them a happy birthday the second it's their birthday. So I knew my sisters would be calling at midnight.
So I'm talking with Janet and she asks me, "Does Bill have anything special planned for you?"
And me being the smart –ahem person that I am look over to bill and ask, "Do you have anything special planned out for me?"
And he replies, "you know what your birthday gift is; a plane ticket to LA"
Yeah that's a pretty expensive gift by our standards considering we're trying to get everything in order.
So that was that.
This morning I wake up at 6:30 since I had that nap and by 7am I'm showered, laying in bed, and psyching myself up to get dressed. I didn’t have to be into work until 10 am.
Bill: "what are you going to do?"
Me: "I don't know… I don't feel like watching TV and I really don't feel like going downstairs to get on the computer."
"oh" and he leaves the room.
He comes back with his hands behind his back and says, "You know how I said I didn't have anything special planed? I lied." Down on one knee he goes and out comes a white ring box.
Holy cr*p! He's got a ring box! Oh my GOD! (I've just realized he's on one knee) and he says: "Adriana ***** will you marry me?"
(Awww!)
So like this isn't really processing because as I'm watching this like four million things are running through my mind:
I'm being proposed to while I'm on my bed and wearing a towel around my head like a turban. Oh the box is open and there's a ring in there! Oh it's the ring I wanted! Oh look at how pretty. Ok ok don't cry. Oh Bill's so amazing. And the thought that keeps circling is: oh god, does it go on the left or the right hand?
So I just lean my head on Bill's shoulder and cry.
He hugs me and I sit up. He asks for my hand so he can be all romantic and place the ring on my finger.
"which hand am I supposed to give you?"
"I don't know!"
So I take the ring from his hand so I can see it and to cover up the fact that neither one of us knows on which hand it goes. And he asks, "is that a yes?"
"didn't I just rip the ring out of your hands?" I kiss him and I say yes.

Ok.
That's the story.
:parp:

The date:
Well we originally chose April 11th 2009. Since that would be the anniversary of when we met -I looked through the archives. Then the pressure of a traditional wedding was driving us batty since it wasn’t something either one of us wanted, so we opted for a nice relaxed beach wedding. We couldn’t do that in April –I didn’t want it in June and July & August in southern California is just too hot for us. He suggested my birthday (May 9th) I said sure!

Letter on Our Wedding Website Explaining The Wedding:
People seem to be having a hard time trying to figure out what our wedding will be like…. So… What you can expect?
Please stop thinking about the stereotypical wedding. Just stop that right now!
Yeah...ok... There’ll be a short ceremony, I’m still going to be in a dress, there’s still a bridal party, so… I guess there are still some elements of a wedding.
But this whole stuffy reception and all that pomp and circumstance… no. we’re not having that.
NO chairs or tables –no seating charts, no escort cards, no little gay chair covers, just no.
A fun day at the beach means just that.
So bring with you:
•Sun Block
•Towels
•Swimming gear
•Beach gear
See Ya There!!
-Adri

This is a rough run of the wedding programs.

I found this awesome aqua card stock (aqua's one of our colors) 8.5x11. I'm just going to cut it in half (8.5x5.5) and then fold it in half into a card.
I also found velum sheets at Hobby Lobby on sale a few months back so I'm using that for the cover.
I used ebay to find the perfect shade of green for my ribbon. And since I'm a jewelry maker I have tons of pearls that I plan to use for an accent on the cover.

They’re done!
I do things in stages –which is why I’m so glad we opted for a long engagement.
Today I finally did the iron on transfers for my bridal party gift bags. I think they came out cute!

Don't know how you made those iron-ons but they are too cute! Sounds like a FUN wedding!! Awesome!! BTW, I originally wanted your date... but no proposal yet so no date in mind now... 5~9~09 is too soon for us at this point, now. So, have fun and good luck. I look forward to seeing your pics & etc.

You can get iron on paper at any hobby place. I just got the clip art online and did some modifications to it to make it more mine.
When you print you just have to make sure you set the paper setting to "iron on transfer"

We got an AMAZING deal on our wedding invites about a year ago. There was a party store closing down and the invites were priced at $9 for a box of 50! So I grabbed 2 boxes and was thrilled at the thought of $18 for 100 invites. When the cashier said "$9" I made a point of telling her there were two boxes there.
"No they're 1/2 off the sticker price"
COOL!
So I grabbed another box.
I used the cards from one box that were supposed to be RSVP Cards and used them as Save the Date Postcards.
They came out pretty cute!!

It’d been a while since I had been able to talk to my mom and I had been planning on talking to my grandma so it was nice that I was able to do both in one call.

Mom and I got ourselves caught up on stuff. We talked some wedding stuff… not much because I learned early on not to get her too involved since she has a tendency to get overwhelmed and …. Well pissy if things don’t go her way or the way she thinks things “should be”. Let’s not forget this is the woman who didn’t speak to me for an ENTIRE DAY –ON MOTHER’S DAY- Because she’d found out we weren’t getting married in a church.

So I mentioned that I still didn’t have some addresses and that she should get them for me since she was in LA and … well… wasn’t. and she starts bringing us names of people I hadn’t even THOUGHT of to add to the guest list, but the thing is …. They’re not people that can go unincluded.

My family is just so freaking HUGE!!!

It went from 256 Invited (69 invitations) to 336 Invited (97 invitations)!!

And she had a point… it’s not like they’re all going to come. True, but now -ARGGGGGGG!!!!

Ok… deep breaths… A large number of those she mentioned are in Mexico so chances of all of them being able to come is not likely…. And there are a few in LA who don’t even like me (the feeling’s mutual) so it’s not likely they’ll show up…. But what if they do? Just to see me go nuts?

And then I talk to my granny I wanted to ask her if I could borrow one of her Mantilla veils that she wears every Sunday to church. They’re just so gorgeous there’s NOTHING out there that I want to wear more than one of her veils. Soft, gorgeous, buttery, white lace… and I just have such lovely memories of my granny in them. It would me waaay more to me than some frilly tulle thing I could ever buy.

So I ask her and her reply is “but why? They’re so old! And you can get a beautiful new one that’s just for you”

“That’s not the point Ma. It would mean more if I could borrow on of yours”

“ok… I guess… if that’s what you want…” and it had NOTHING to do with the fact that I’d be borrowing one of her veils and everything to do with the fact that they’re sure I’d really much rather have something NEW that’s MINE… she’s so cute.

I love marcasite & my future mother in law bought me this lovely necklace with a gorgeous aquamarine stone in the center. The original necklace was perfect when we were planning a garden wedding, but when we changed the venue to the beach the chain didn’t work. So I exchanged the necklace with a strand of pearls –it helps that I LOVE pearls.

I was on Etsy and saw some lovely little Mermaid pendants someone made out of polymer clay! So I commissioned this person to make one for everyone in my bridal party. There is a hole made vertically so that I can add a head pin and add it to the key ring.

Right now I’m at the Laundromat with FH killing time on the internet –I figured I’d update you all on every little detail of our lives.

I’ve ordered fabric samples for the wedding dress. That was… on the 14th, I haven’t gotten anything yet, and I’m getting antsy.

I know there’s still plenty of time for it to get here, but… well… there you are.

We had a pretty good holiday though we were so broke we couldn’t afford gifts for anyone. And that just made me feel all kinds of guilty. We did have gifts for the twins –because I’d gotten them BEFORE we started really feeling the financial pinch. We did have to get a little something for their sis to balance it all out, but since she’s teeny we were able to get away with something small.

Bill’s parents were amazing –as usual- and gave us each a nice chuck of change to help with the money thing. Bill had mentioned to his mom that we felt guilty about them getting us gifts when we could NOT afford a thing and his mom’s reply was “Tough.”

I do feel terrible that I wasn’t able to get Bill anything… I don’t know… once our feet are on more solid ground I’ll just get him a belated x-mas gift or a really awesome valentine’s gift. Whichever comes first.

I’ll just close with my most favorite pics taken Christmas day:

Ok. I’m a little excited and a little bit in awe…

So I got those fabric samples today (yay!!!)

And as soon as I got back inside I ripped open the package and started sifting through all the little fabric squares creating a “hell no” and then a “maybe” pile.

Then I moved on to the maybes and kept sifting through them.

Now keep in mind that every little square has an address label on it with a description of the fabric piece, item number, etc. –but it does NOT have the price on them.

So I kept sifting and sifting until I narrowed it down to two possible choices for the over fabric and under fabric.

Top fabric options: A sand washed charmeuse or a cotton/silk blend that is just buttery soft and soo lovely. Ok both are buttery soft and lovely.

For the bottom fabric options: A silky viole or a silk satin both sheer and soft, and just as buttery as the previous two.

Now I just have to make a decision as to what combination I want.

I decided to look up the prices on these fabrics…

How is it that I managed to pick out the most expensive fabrics on the site?

Bill calls it a gift.

I have been a busy busy girl!
So I’ve made a decision on the wedding dress fabric. I just have to order it now and have that and a dress shipped to my mom so she can get started on my dress. Oh so exciting!!
I am in LOVE with the fabric. So gorgeous! I keep looking at it and feeling it. I had to finally force myself to put it into my wedding note book and stop fiddling with it.
Yesterday I was bust printing out as much as I possibly could.
I printed the programs –minus the cover since I had to redo them and I need to go out and buy more velum sheets.
I reprinted the invitations since the first batch I printed had the WRONG address on them. I should’ve known that printing those without a hitch meant something was up. Well let me tell you that I’ve used up the invites in ALL THREE BOXES now. But they’re printed. I even have 10 printed out in Spanish for those who absolutely cannot speak English.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3199/3144730866_e4021259ef_m.jpg

I printed out Thank You cards for the wedding party each with a poem I found for them inside –then I’ll write a little something on them on the other side. I also printed out a few extra with blank insides to hand write a thank you.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3283/3143886769_10db5b9fd1.jpg

Since I’m having a stamp made for the mothers’ hankies I’m going to stamp the center of the card with the same logo and do the whole glue/fine glitter thing I’d suggested to someone else.

Oh they’re so cute!! And there’ll be extras so I think I’ll include a little something for the grown up in the wedding party so we can have fun too. The extra sand pails & beach balls I’ll leave out for the other children who’ll be at the wedding.

So I've been inspired by her wedding journal -specifically her water bottle labels.
I was suggesting them to a coworker to use for favors at her husband's birthday party and it got me thinking that they'd be cute at out little beach wedding.
So I created a label:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3267/3152960697_044426ba7c_o.jpg

I spoke to my MOHs and asked them if they'd like to take over the printing and assembling of this one since there's no way I can do all these water bottles and then try to figure out how to transport them from Michigan to California.

They said yes!! I think they're relieved that I'm willing to let them do at least ONE DIY project and not hog them all for myself. :)

So thank you Deanna!!!

ok!
Invites and RSVPs are ready.

Originally I wasn't going to do RSVP cards and was just going to add a quick note on the bottom of the invitations as to where they could RSVP. But... that was before the whole vellum/printer fiasco where I had to use up two boxes of onvites for the vellum alone. So I was stuck with all this gorgeous hand-made paper that i just didn't have a use for and it seemed like such a shame to toss it all.

Also, I realized that my entire family all belongs to Procrastinators Anonymous  and will just NEVER get around to letting us know if they're coming or not, so I knew they needed a deadline.

So I decided to make little cards out of the extra 8.5x11 sheets of vellum, cut them to size, and mount them!

The RSVPs (English & Spanish) are all assembled. Now I just have to finish up the invites and do some envelope stuffing!

Thanks! I do too. To think I was about to get special ordered hand made paper when I found this stuff on clearance!

For invitations/stationary I think we've lucked out and managed to save quite a bit by keeping our eyes open for sales and being willing to do a lot of the work.
3 boxes of invites: $13.50 for all three (steal!) :jphappy:
1 package of Card stock: $5
1 pack of vellum sheets: $3
2 ink cartridges: $40

so for $61.50 I've gotten:
Invitations
RSVP Cards
Programs
Thank You Cards
Save the Date Postcards

Update.

He apologized and fell all over himself when he realized he was being a turd.

I got tons of text messages to the effect of “thank you baby. I love you” heh. Silly boy.

*sigh* so today my phone read 120 days.

I was talking to my assistant about some of the wedding and I don’t know why it finally sunk in that my dad (grandpa) would not be there for the wedding (he passed in 2004). And I just started bawling. Which, of course, got my assistant going. It’s hard. The final straw was when we were talking about my granny being the one doing the prayer since that was something my dad usually did.

*sigh* ok I’m all bummed again.

Talk to you all later.

I was having a hard time trying to figure out a gift for the boys since weddings tend to be decidedly "girl". So I went with fun.
The OCD in me HAD to get the pails rearranged so that all the accessories were the same color.
...
Then I had to make sure the mini beach ball and ducky match.

The Economy
So the first thing I say to Bill when I get home from work today is: Let’s just scrap the whole wedding and go to the court house.
His reply is “You’re not serious”

I was serious. Very serious.
Just before I left a mother was talking to the Director telling her that she’d (the mother) had been laid off. A mother in my classroom had told me earlier that day that her BOSS had been laid off. These are only two out of the 6 families in our center to tell us something along those lines.
So that makes me think… how much longer before they start pulling their kids? And then how much longer before WE start having layoffs????
I was scared. I’m still scared.
But Bill being Bill helped me through it.
The wedding’s still on.
I wanted to cut the photographer, but he knows it means too much to me, so we’re keeping that.
We have decided on drastically cutting the guest list –I knew there was a reason for me not being able to send out those invites just yet! So we’re going from somewhere around 100+ invites to a firm 50. I don’t even know how the number had gotten so huge!! We wanted small and intimate (which admittedly is hard given the size of my family) and somehow people just kept getting added to the list!!
But the important thing is the wedding’s still on. I’m still concerned about the future, but I never once doubted who I wanted to share it with.

Snow-day tomorrow!!

Oh so excited!! I got the call from my boss about two hours ago to tell me. We have this phone tree thing, so I had to call three other girls to tell them the good news!

So today I get a call from my sister telling me I should get Rubio’s to cater the wedding since I’m going for a laid back feel.

Ok. She tells me this EVERYTIME she eats there. No joke.

So I tell her no… then for giggles I ask her what the price would be… oh it’s doable. It’s about what we (I ‘cause Bill just has no clue) were thinking on spending & There’s no prep work!!!

Sweet sign me up!!

So I still have to call and all that junk, but it’s looking like we’re going to go with the Beach Mex Buffet (“It even has ‘beach’ in the title!!!”, Andrea points out)

I’ve been working on my Thank You cards for the wedding party. FH asks “Why are you making thank you cards?”
Uh… to say thank you for all the hard work? Silly guy.
So you’ve seen the Thank You cards with the cover printed and the individual poem for each of them. I’ve been working on the Sand Dollar stamp. I used embossing powder for the cover stamp (tip: you don’t have to have an embossing gun. You can use a toaster oven set at 150 for like 1 minute –keep an eye on it)
I’ve been writing a personalized message on each card , but now I’m stuck… I don’t know what to write for FH’s parents!!! I mean I know what I want to tell them, but… it’s like writers block or something.

Update…
So Yesterday my basement windows were replaced and the dudes who did the work turned off the hot water heater (for safety I’m assuming). Thing is they didn’t turn it back on! So I had to call my FFIL and asked him how I would know if it’d been turned off and how would I turn it on.
“I’ll be right there” But… “I’ll be right there” he says again.
I guess he thought I was going to blow the place up or something. He’s so cute. So he came by and turned it back on.
Then let me know he went ahead and got ordained online, so that’s a go! He wants to get together and talk about how we’re going to do this… I’m sure he’s going to include some sort of dad talk in there too –I don’t mind. I love the guy.
I also nixed the idea of hand stamping handkerchiefs for the moms. It was a disaster. So I’m going to go with really beautifully embroidered hankies. Going cheaper actually cost me more money in the long run. Isn’t that always the way?
I ordered those yesterday and went ahead and placed my order for the Jelly Bellies.
Then I got to thinking how those candies would be so lonely… so I started looking for other candy options. I really fell in love with these cute little flip-flop lollipops, but they were so expensive!
So I’ve added another DIY and I’m going to be making them. I’ll start on a test batch within the next two weeks and test them on my coworkers. I’m sure they’ll hate that.

Last weekend I mailed out the invitations and the dress that my mom will use as a design guide for my dress.
Last night we got the call from FH’s mom and find out FH’s middle name was misspelled!! Ok. I gave FH several different rough drafts and not once did he catch it. It’s nothing major There was an extra “N” at the end. That’s what happens when he glances through stuff and doesn’t pay attention.
Today I got a call from my mom telling me she’d gotten the dress. We talked on the phone for a bit on what adjustments I wanted made.

It’s getting closer!
I’m getting excited.

So I went and had my ultrasound today.
I’d never had one before so I was full of questions and making really silly jokes.
At one point I asked, “What’s that big bubble looking thing?”
“That would be your bladder… and it’s full right now”
Really? You asked that I drink 4 glasses of water less than 1 hour before the appointment and forbade me from peeing and my bladder’s full??? NO!!
I had BOTH types done today so that was fun.
The reason for the US was to see how the plumbing’s working. So now I have to wait and see what they find.

I didn't have any problems with the paper. Though I did read Deanna was having problem so I went to the site where the paper was purchased to see if they had any tips for printing on an inkjet. It seems like Tuesday I was knocked out by a combination of an oncoming cold, work drama, and working a 10 hour shift without a break.
It took two days and tons of NyQuil & TheraFlu to recover from that mess. But now I seen to be back to me.

On some awesome news front my period's back which is a HUGE relief and I'm glad to know that my doctors and I have all that under control now.

Just got off the phone with my sis (the older of the two) she's super excited about planning my bachelorette party. And super relived I think to know that I want NOTHING to do with the typical “bachelorette party” scene. From some ideas she was running by me it looks like it’s going to be tons of fun. She seemed to be a little concerned about whether or not I’d have fun… then I asked her “when have we gone out and I not had fun?”

I did some “window” shopping online today for some travel clothes. I need to make sure that I have outfits for everyday, for the parties and commitments while we’re in California, and then to wear for the rest of the day at the beach. Shopping’s tons of fun until you have to shop with a list.

I'm glad you're feeling better! Being sick is definitely no fun at all. I hear ya with the shopping....everything from a shower outfit, to rehearsal outfit, to clothes that will be more "in season" to the colder weather we'll be going back to. At least you'll be getting to buy fun warm weather clothes! :D

yeah the issue is trying to get clothes that fit NOW and will still fit in a few months time since now that we've figured out what was wrong with me I seem to actually losing the weight I've been struggling so hard for so long to lose!!
At the very worse I'll take them to get tailored closer to the departure date. Though I'm not thinking the weight loss will be THAT dramatic.

Some sort of horrible flu virus is going around my center. As I type there is only ONE child in my classroom today all other children are home because either them, one of their parents, or a combination there of are home sick.

My assistant stayed home because her baby is sick so I had to come in earlier and open my room even though I was up at 1 am puking my guts out and now my face is all red on account of busted blood vessels. Just took my temp and it's only at 99.3 so I'm alright for the time being, though I WILL be going home early. I can't get sick AGAIN.

Sandy's journal just reminded me that I have to start working on my packing list again and pulling stuff out and putting it together so I can figure out what I still need to buy.

I just sent out an email to my photographer -my only really BIG ticket vendor- to make sure everything is ok so far.

Did I mention I finished the programs done? I still have to take pics of them and post them.

I have one box packed up of stuff that will be sent with my FMIL and FFIL when they drive to California (yes they're driving it. They want to see the country)

I think I'm pretty much on top of things right now. It's more a matter of getting things together and seeing what still has to be done.

Thank you both! Having only one child was a god send because even though I WAS working it wasn't so terrible. It helps that this little girl is just a dream and the sweetest girl.

I was out of work by 1:30 and don't have to go back in until 8:30 so I plan to do some sleeping. Though if I wake up and I'm feeling bad I'm not going.

All the stuff I posted a few days ago has come in today! All super cute -better in person.

I'm starting to get a little annoyed that people aren't RSVPing. People were given the option of either calling to confirm/decline, emailing one of us, or contacting us via our website.

There is a little over 2 months until the wedding and so far... nothing. ok that's not true FH's sister & mother both RSVP'd as well as my sister. But we KNEW they were coming! They're IN the wedding!

I understand that those I invited are people I'm close to, but this isn't the time for "oh she knows I'm comming" mentality.

The deadline is March 27th so I still have time to call the straglers and make arrangements with the food, so I'm going to wait and hope there is an influx of RSVPs in the near future.

I'll wait. My sister and mother are up in Northern Cai for the week so sis has strict instructions to have people RSVP! :innocent:

Mom gave me a call today because an uncle (her brother) was teasing her about making my wedding dress. He said something along the lines of "if you're strapped for cahs I'll pay for the dress" Now this is an uncle who would NEVER say anything mean-spirited and is ALWAYS supportive so I know he was teasing and my mom is nervous enough about the dress that she let it get to her. So I spent 10 minutes convincing my mom that it was something I WANTED and was happy she was doing.

My other sister and I talked today... I had completely forgotten about a wedding shower! I mean we're having a batcholrette party, but then I realized we didn't have anything for the older women... yeah. The issue is that because everything has to be crammed into the week we're there it makes it a bit tight on time, so now I have to think and decide to do it or not.
*sigh*

So my phone says: 62 days.
I just counted the Saturdays until D-day: less than 9 weeks to go.
The strange wedding dreams are coming almost every night now and it really doesn’t matter if I’m doing wedding stuff before bed or even that day –I’m just getting them. A few nights ago I dreamt that we were somewhere in LA (I think) and as we’re waking the sapphire in my engagement ring just falls right out. Better not be a bad omen **** it.
I think I’m handling things pretty well. I haven’t gone nuts and screamed at people for no reason –actually I haven’t even raised my voice. People seem kind of shocked that I haven’t turned into Bridezilla yet –Am I really that scary of a person?
I have spent quite a bit of time talking both the mothers down –mainly my own. I only heard a bit of nerves from FMIL when she said she realized that it was so close, they’re so cute. Then I spent a good 20 minutes convincing my sister that it was OK that she got a pink dress even though pink isn’t in my color scheme. I’m not going to spaz over colors.
I have realized that I’m more sensitive to stuff. Mainly when it comes to Bill. I find myself reading too much into what he says, does, doesn’t say, doesn’t do. Then I talk myself back to reality.
God I hope I don’t get any worse.

Run Through of the Lollypops
So I finally got off my butt today long enough to clean the kitchen and do a run through of the lollipops I want to make for the wedding.

This is the recipe I followed:
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
* 1 cup sugar
* ½ cup light corn syrup
* ¼ cup water
* ¾ tsp extract of your choice (vanilla, mint, cinnamon, coconut, etc)
* Food coloring (optional)
* Lollipop molds and sticks

Prep:
1. Prepare your molds by spraying them with nonstick cooking spray and inserting lollipop sticks into the molds.
2. Combine the sugar, corn syrup, and water in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Insert the candy thermometer and stir until sugar dissolves.
3. Allow to boil, without stirring, until candy reaches 295 degrees (hard-crack stage).
4. Once the candy reaches 295, remove it from heat. Stir in the extract of your choice, and, if desired, food coloring.
5. Spoon the candy into the mold cavities, making sure to cover the back of the stick.
6. Allow to cool completely and remove once hardened.

I didn’t have the sticks yet so this is strictly candy and not lollipops.
I’m pretty proud of how they turned out! It’s funny how the surfboards were an afterthought when I bought the mold and those are the ones I like the most.
A few notes to self:
1. Use less non-stick spray
2. The surfboards are DELICATE and easily break.

I did two batches of this recipe so there was left over sugar/candy after. I decided to play with it! So I poured it out and let it cool a bit, then I started trying to mold it. Man it starts cooling almost instantly! I felt very “Food Network” as I messed around with it.
It’s like warm play dough.

We got our rings!
Today we went ring shopping and picked out our rings.
They'll be ready in 4 weeks.
His is a tungsten ring with a celtic weave etched on it. Mine is a 2mm white gold, band with 1/4 Karat diamonds half way around.
As so as I saw it I got all girly and dorky. FH was totally teasing me about it later.
Sorry, all I have right now are bad cell phone pics.

So I just got off the phone with my mom. The dress... it looks like it's going to be a surprise to all of us and honestly I'm not too concerned over it. I trust my momma.

She also mentioned that there have been several relatives who have asked her about the invitations since it seems that so far 4 households never got one!
ok what?!?
And why wait 'till now to say something?
So now I have to get in touch with them and make sure that they KNOW they're invited and that a second invite is on the way.
But it makes me wonder what happened to the invitations that were originally sent? And are they the only ones that didn't get one or is there a large group that thinks that they're simply not invited?

*sigh*

Yano. I ended up doing all of my rsvp though the website. It kept count for me and I added them as they came in the mail. It worked out perfectly. But I had a back up on another wedding website where I can export all of my guest to its own excel sheet. If I had to do excel on my own.. lol I would of had to get help from fh! And lord knows I dont want him messing with it.. HA

I called in today because I had a cough basically all night so by the time it was time for me to get up and get ready my chest & throat were killing me. Since I have a tendency for strep I decided to call in and get a strep test.
It came back negative, but I do have bronchitis.
Ok. No work for me today and tons of antibiotics.
FH and I managed to get a lot done (just because you’re sick doesn’t mean that you get a break!) so even though I was able to sleep in a bit we still took the dog to the groomers, went grocery shopping, and made a few more plans.
This whole wedding shower has been nagging us a bit. We don’t seem to have the time, but we feel terrible about not doing something for the moms that’s wedding related where they get to be the ones to shine.
So we decided on doing a post-wedding shower.
Sunday we’re going to have a BBQ type thing. My sis has a point in that most of the family is still going to be around because there always ALWAYS is a 2nd day gathering. It doesn’t matter the occasion someone is going to make burgers, carna asada, Menudo, you name it we’re going to find a reason to gather. And this’ll also take care of the whole gifts/no gifts at the beach dilemma.
This does mean we’re going to have to cancel the mother’s day brunch, but we have that figured out. We’re going to have a cake made for the mothers and I’m going to talk to some of my cousins who are pretty well known for serenading on special occasions and have them serenade the mothers. Very sweet. Very traditionally Mexican.
And as we’re having lunch picnic style in our car and talking this all out FH gets a call from the Jewelry store telling him the rings are ready (insert girly screams here).
When we went to pick up Ursula from the groomer I asked if I could take a look at where she would be boarded while we were gone for the wedding. I love that place. And even though I do love it, Ursula loves them, and they love Ursula, I felt tons better after I got a tour and knew she’d be taken care of.
So now I’m home. I’ve printed off the Marriage License Application so we can fill it out and have it ready once we’re there.
I spoke to the photographer and we’re going to set up a meeting once we get there so that we can talk and hash some stuff out face to face before the wedding.
Ok. I feel productive. I’m going to go take a nap.

This weekend.
So Saturday I went out with a friend from work, had lunch and went shopping for a bit. Got a darling pair of shoes that I really didn’t NEED, but who cares about need when it comes to shoes? No one that’s who.
So of course we hit both Michael's & Hobby Lobby as well.
I was having a hard time identifying the bags since even though they say “Maid of Honor” or “Flower Girl”, I’ve got more than one of each! So I got these little sand pail tags and just used a paint pen to put their initials on each.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3634/3376805317_c19e0e6bdc_m.jpg

Michael’s had these super cute mini photo albums for .50 so I had to get some of those to add to the bridal party gift bags (wasn’t I done with these? Looks like the answer is: Nope!) This is what will now be in each bag.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3445/3376749537_ba277702a2.jpg

I also got these SUPER CUTE flip-flop paper mache boxes! I painted them and decided to use them to present the pendants I’m going to give the girls.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3562/3377576452_f9cf82c1ce_m.jpg

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3578/3377562958_d89776b788.jpg

So I’d mentioned that I redid the programs. I used the remaining water-proof paper and made scrolls, I added a small scallop shell with two pearls inside, then rolled them up and tied them with twine.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3637/3376747449_8c62a98189_m.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3639/3376747655_9c03fdb0cc_m.jpg
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3652/3376748769_bfc3bf110f.jpg

I was also having a problem with how the Mother's Gifts were going to be presented so I did a little something with them.

The moms will have a little beach pail tag and my granny's will have a little mermaid.

:o amisteratwisterandme: I feel the same way!

Ok. Update.
Can I just say how lucky I am to have so many people who love me?
Yesterday I saw that there was a missed call from my Uncle Gabriel. This uncle and I are very close. He is actually the only person I ever explained myself to when I decided to move from California to Michigan. And the only person I even wanted to understand why I was doing it.
So when I saw I’d missed his call I called back immediately. Only I got his voicemail.
So during lunch today I decided to give him a call again. I was expecting to get his voice mail again, but I wanted him to know that I hadn’t forgotten that he wanted to get in touch with me. We talk for a bit and he asks me what I need help with in the wedding.
I mention that there is one thing I just can’t do from way over here and that’s getting a tent and tables for the beach.
“I’ll take care of it.” He tells me. Then he tells me that he’s been thinking and that he’d like to take care of making sure there’s food for the evening when people get home from the beach. Sort of an after party –something that’s normal in my family- these things last ALL WEEKEND in my family. He asks me if it’s ok if he takes care of this for me. I don’t have to worry about anything he’s doing it.
I thank him like a million times and once we hang up I just burst into tears. What a huge gesture. OMG I’m crying again.
Ok. Moving on.
THEN I had sent Karla a text telling her that I was ok with scrapping the wedding cake (she and her mother were going to make it for us) I understood that both she (Karla) and her sister had lost their jobs and that times were tough. I didn’t want them to do something they couldn’t just for me.
She replies right back that I’m practically her sister (I feel the exact same way) and to shut up.
That got me crying all over again.
I’m so blessed.

Today is the last day for RSVPs. So This weekend I have to:

Start on my "bride" T (the rhinestones came in!!!)
Go shoe shopping with my FMIL for my wedding shoes.

It can be done.

Today my FMIL and I went shoe shopping. I was starting to get sad because I couldn't find a thing. Then... I FOUND THEM!!! :jphappy:

Macy's shoe department. There they were: Style & Co. "Celine" Peep Toe Pump in white.

I love them!
So very beachy! :jphappy:

LOL! It's not stupid! I'm getting that question a lot.
I'm going to actually get married barefoot, but I still want cute wedding shots. So the pre wedding shots with the wedding party will be with cute, cute shoes.

hoenstly this is just an excuse to have more shoes. :whoohoo:

I've always had a love of ... stuff. It took along time for me to come to grips with all of my issues regarding body image and how I was over weight. Once I got over them, I started enjoying fashion.:winktongue:

Ok… I’m just going to list ‘em all…
1. As of today I have lost a total of 25 lbs since Jan. YAY!!!
2. Checked the mail today and got an invite to my wedding shower! I’m super excited!! I’m going to add that, the card from Em, and other wedding type stuff into some sort of memories type thingy… .once I figure out what it’s going to be.
3. FH just told me about an AWESOME gift we were given. Seems like FMIL & FFIL decided to add more money to the wedding fund. What?!!? OMG! They did NOT need to do that! I cried. They're just amazing people.
4. Talked to My sis for a bit today. That was fun. I miss my sisters. I miss the everyday stuff.
5. Still have to work on the lollipops and my T
6. there was more but I just don’t feel like dwelling on negative stuff so I’ll just move on.

So I keep the boxes I buy my jewelry in and use them for other things. I had two black watch boxes. In one of them I had my necklace and earrings and in the other one I had some handmade polymer clay mermaid & sea horse charms.
Well the freaking sea horses were ugly and I decided to toss them. I just realized (two months later) that I threw away the wrong box.

Worst part? It’s irreplaceable since the pendant was handmade and a gift from my FMIL. I had removed the chain and added a strand of pearls… *sob*
I’m not going to find anything that I loved as much as that one!

ok catching up.
I'll admit that I've spent the last week and a half ignoring the wedding.
I am still spazing a bit over the whole flower situation, but I've decided I just don't care! either we have nice flowers or we don't have flowers at all.
I'm good either way.

As if I don't have enough on my plate this month with the wedding, last minute details, & stuff I haven't gotten to. I'm also on the committee at work to get our center nationally accredited, I need to make lesson plans for the two weeks in May that I won't be in my classroom, I have to get the school newsletter for may done by the last week of April or else there won't be a May newsletter,
AND
I've decided to host a bake sale for Share Our Strength (http://join.strength.org/goto/guppypondhelps) since April is the Month of the Young Child on the 20th so I've got tons of details for THAT to deal with.
Tomorrow is Easter dinner.
Monday I have to put in the order for the food.
Tuesday I have an accreditation meeting.
Wednesday I have an appointment with a financial consultant.
Thursday... do I really have nothing to do on Thursday? I'm missing something I'm sure.
Friday we're having a birthday dinner for a friend.
Saturday I have both my wedding shower & a birthday party to go to.
Sunday I have to do the baking for the bake sale.
Monday we have the bake sale all day long.

I still have to get those lollipops done, make a decision on the flowers, see what I still need to get for the packing, a mani/pedi would be a good idea, I need a facial, my eyebrows.
ok. I'm done.
If you don't see updates just know that I'm lurking, but just don't want to dwell long enough to post to this thread.

Just posting a quick note because I'm a bit grumpy and don't want that to spill over on to the wedding stuff.
So about a week ago a friend and I were in Office Max browsing and I found a digi-cam on sale. and since I had been looking for another camera since FH starts spazing every time I want to use it and all I hear are things along the lines of; "Be careful... it's a $600 camera... take the bag..." etc, etc, etc.
I wanted something decent, inexpensive, small, and something I wouldn't have to worry about everytime I took it to use it.
I found:
http://www.letsgodigital.org/images/artikelen/36/olympus-fe-20.jpg

THEN I find out that FH was planing on getting me one for my wedding gift!! :bbeek:
Oh I felt bad.

sandy03

The one you bought can be your "travel" camera.

Whenever I end up with multiple stuff that I know I can use, I always keep the extras stashed in a small carry-on sized bag. That way whenever we go anywhere, all I have to do is toss in some clothes (and half the time I keep some of those in the bag too for spontaneous trips) - that way I always have what I need, don't have to worry about forgetting anything, and if something happens to it, it's not my "good" anything! (plus, if I ever need my backup, i know it's in the bag under my bed!)

WOW!!!
What a busy couple of days!
Yesterday was a friend's birthday, so we had to celebrate of course. That was a fun night that ended with me giggling and coming home at about 1am.
THEN
Today I went to my wedding shower here -hosted by my FMIL and FGMIL- so nice! I have a set of pics from the shower (http://www.flickr.com/photos/moon_dust/sets/72157616929292129/) on flickr. It was a lunch at a restaurant complete with cake and gifts!
THEN
I get home and try to clean a little and at least try to stack all the gifts until I can get to them.
THEN
I have to go get ready for a bowling-birthday party for my future nice & nephew-in-law. It was fun. I bowled a 32. No. I'm not kidding.
Now I'm home.
Going to rest & sleep in.
Tomorrow I have to do something with this house, work on the lollipops, and bake for the bake-sale on Monday.

The one you bought can be your "travel" camera.
That's what I was thinking. This way I always have a camera in my purse. Yeah my phone has one, but .... it's a phone camera!

So the food for the wedding has been ordered!!!
Full taco bar with fish, chicken, & beef. It includes chips & salsa, rice, beans, & corn tortillas.
Flatware, plates, & napkins are included. As is delivery & set up!
So now I don't have to worry about someone going out to get it!
While we're having our short ceremony on the beach they will be setting the food up so it's ready to go as soon as we say I do!

AWESOME!!

So f*cking pissed at myself it’s not even funny.

So I didn’t go to work today. Playing hooky? Why would I do that when I’m getting two weeks off in like no time?

No. I blew my back out –my lower back & hips to be exact. And now my left leg has joined the pain party and hurts like a mo-fo and can get REALLY cold. I can’t go to the doctor today since FH working, but I’m going to go tomorrow. I still have neproxin (however you spell that) and flexoril (however you spell THAT) AND Motrin 800.

Though NONE of them are doing a f*cking thing.

I’ve moved on from cringing and shuffling around the house to straight out cursing like a sailor and using FH's old crutches.

I can’t afford this. Ok I have Aflac so that should help, but still!

This is the last week for one of my kids and I’m not there for her.

TODAY was the Bake Sale that I set up and started and I missed out on it. –damn it.

My kitchen is a freaking war zone since I’d started re-organizing it when the spasms started.

I’m so mad. I can’t even let the dog out to pee. The cat keeps rubbing herself on me I’m assuming it’s sympathy since she usually leaves me alone. I’d really like it if they left me alone.

Really thank god for Alfac.

Moon.Dust.
04-21-2009, 07:28 PM
eople who “mean well”
So I just got off the phone with my mom.
She starts the conversation with “I’ve got to tell you something –but you can’t get mad”
Ok. That’s not going to get me on edge.
So she beats around the bush until I finally can’t take it anymore and just burst out “what is it mom?”
Turns out she was talking to an aunt of mine and the subject of who was going to talk me down the isle. This aunt didn’t think it was “appropriate” that my mother do it because she’s not a MAN. This is a MAN’S job and there’s a REASON that the MAN walks you down the isle.
Yes, I know the reason it’s an antiquated reason –no thank you. I’d rather it be the people who were in charge of my upbringing and have invested their whole lives into my getting to that point. That would be my mother and my grandmother.
Granted had my grandfather been alive things may have been different, but he’s not and they’re not.
THEN she poops a brick because my grandmother’s walking me too! “If she’s letting someone walk her down with you why not a man? She has plenty of uncles who would LOVE to”
Yes, I do, but I’m not choosing one uncle over another. All of my uncles have been there for me when I needed them and it would be unfair for me to choose one over the other. AND My grandmother is the head of this family!
Scr*w you this is my wedding go eff-yourself.
THEN THEN
My mother mentioned that my grandmother would be leading us in prayer in Spanish and holy f*ck this aunt just went ape poop. Women can’t DO that! Blah, blah, blah
Ok.
I get it. You guys are SUPER conservative, but this ISN’T YOUR WEDDING. IT’S MINE!
What’s pissing me off is that she’s going to go to my grandma and make her question whether she should do it or not.
This is just BULL.

I'm so sorry. I know how hard it can be when family gets touchy about religion. It really stinks. Good for you standing up for yourself and what is important to you.

If it makes you feel any better, my FH's family (a couple of uncles in particular) had a few extended tantrums once they realized what it was that I was doing as a career (because women CANNOT be ordained!) and it was actually FH's grandmother that put them in their place! Hopefully your grandmother will do the same thing!

I know my grandma and she's always stood up for herself and women being equal. I'm just concerned over the fact that she may feel torn between her daughter and I.

I'm not going to let small minded people ruin this for me.

With your Grandma could you do a pre-emptive strike?

Call Grandma and tell her how much it means to you that she is doing these things for your wedding, and how as the matriarch of the family she DESERVES to be the one to do them, and that if she wasn't going to do them, you would probably just pass on them because you wouldn't want to choose and hurt any of your Uncle's feelings?

I'd love to but my granny's darn near deaf so phone chats are difficult. I have had this conversation with her when I asked her in person, but that was two years ago so I plan to do it again in person when I fly in a few days early.
Here's the thing. People in my family KNOW BETTER than to think I'm going to follow tradition for tradition's sake. I don't just "go with the flow" quietly if it's not something I feel is right. And I make my feeling clear.
So this silly act was just that -a silly act.
There's a reason I asked my mother & grandmother. They know me. They know my feelings. And they know that I would never do a THING to disrespect them.
It was not the best time for me to hear that news since I was doped up on 4 different kinds of pain medications and it made me sensitive. But I have faith in both my mothers.

Your rings are fantastic.

I've seen anything like you FHs ring and I love it!

I agree with, uh, everyone else whose posted in this thread about both the rings (so awesome!) and your mother/grandmother walking you down the aisle.

Maybe if someone else asks why you're not having a man walk you down the aisle, you could say something like, "You think I shouldn't honor my grandmother and mom that way? Why? We're so close and they mean the world to me and I couldn't imagine anyone else being at my side." If they are pulling the "Your only option is a MAN" you could pull the "But I think my only option should be those I love so dearly!" I think that might be harder to argue with.

I was sure that this wasn't going to stress me out. I mean.
I know who I want to spend the rest of my life with.
I trust him.
I trust what we have.
I'm good.
I'm used to being in front of a large group of people.
I don't get stage fright.

But... I'm finding that that is not the case. People are letting me know that I haven't been the... greatest person to be around -which is kind of funny because I thought I was doing really well NOT being a bridezilla. I think the combo of my busted back, me not being the best of patients, and the date just getting closer... not a good combo I'm guessing.
Though I haven't cried, screamed, or thrown tantrums, but there you go.

Also, my face is breaking out.
I mean I'm getting pimples!
I NEVER get pimples! No, I'm not kidding. Once in a while I'll get one or two along my hair line when I'm about to get AF, but that's IT!
Now I've covered my face with Burt's Bees blemish stick and neosporin. They're gong DOWN!

Today, I talked to my sister it seems she tried on her dress again... it doesn't fit. so now she's got to find another one 13 days before the wedding. ok. It'll be fine.

Don't knock screaming, crying, and tantrum-throwing. They're very therapeutic. There are studies that show physical benefits to crying. It might be just what you need!

Trust me hun when its over its over.. You will miss planning or at least the part where you looked forward to it.

Everything will be fine. And you have every right to kick and scream if you want to!

You've got a lot of stress. I think the back alone would make me... less pleasant. If it is as bad as people say... just hope they are forgiving.

I'm also trying not to be a bridezilla, but I'm starting to suspect the label is inevitable because you cannot make everyone happy and it seems to get applied to those who are assertive about what they want.

if it's between that or pimples... I'm going to start!

It's strange. I'm looking forward to it... just not all at once.

*sigh*
I AM assertive.

I went to the doctor today and I've gotten the green light to go back to work on Wednesday. I think the desperate cries of "I'm Bored!!" and telling her that the wedding was next week helped her make a decision.

So I just packed up what we’re giving FH’s parents to take with them on their drive out to California and totally burst into tears three different times. For the silliest things too! My ability to shift and move things to fit into compact squares simply vanished. Me! The person who relaxes by playing games like Tetris and bejeweled!
So tomorrow FH takes the boxes to his parents.
It’s strange to see my room not packed tight with boxes.
My phone reads: 9 days.
Tomorrow’s the last day of work before my time off for the wedding starts.
I still have to call and pay for the food. Just talked to FH right now. Gave him that job. He can deal with it.
I’m done. I starting to hyperventilate. Not really, but… you know.

thank you sandy!

So let’s recap shall we?
April 17th & 18th I have a total blast with my friends and party that Friday & have a girly wedding shower Saturday.
I also get to go to a bowling birthday party for the twins where I blow out my back.
Followed by a week and a half where I can’t move and basically high on pain and anti-inflammatory meds.
After begging my doc I get to work for three days.
Saturday I basically spent it taking it slow to make sure my back isn’t all ****ed at the wedding. ‘cause you know… that would make the wedding night just GREAT!
Yesterday I did some serious cleaning so that I could focus on packing today and doing all the last minute junk.
And then it happens.
I’m standing in front of the pan where ground turkey was cooking for the tacos, I stretch back a bit to relieve the pressure on my back that I’ve been getting as it’s been healing, and then I remember exactly how big my belly is when IT TOUCHES THE HOT PAN!!
Yeah.
Nice.
So you want to see a burnt belly? Course you do!

ChristineLS

:bbeek: That looks like it was really painful! I hope it heals soon!

I like to use aloe when I burn myself, I don't know if it will heal faster, but it does relieve some pain. Then again, for all I know it could be the active ingredient in burn cream. :(

thanks guys for all the support!

I've been procrastinating on the packing. I don't know why. It's not cold feet or nerves.... I don't know. My belly's actually flipping.
I have to HAVE TO pack by tomorrow.
We have a few errands to run, but not many.
Then Wednesday we drop off Ursula (the dog) at the vets and make the drive to Detroit for our flight.

ok. belly's flipping again.

THANKS GUYS!!!
I'm peeking in since I'm still on East Coast time and all the other girls are still sleeping.

Last night was my batch-party and it was AWESOME!!!
Problem: SOMEONE (my baby sis -18yrs) took out the memory card from my camera and every other camera had SOMETHING wrong with it so all the pics are on a disposable -yuck.

Today: Nails, dress fitting, get make up, go to beach & scout place, rehearsal dinner. It CAN be done

Oh and problem #2? AF just came for a visit this morning... :icon_barbar:So now I have all those lovely symptoms to deal with as well

oh oh and problem #3??? Still haven't written my part of the vows

Heywie

AF came before my wedding too and I was on the pill! I think it was my stress and nerves that brought it on, but it stayed very light and I was able to have a good time and hardly notice it. I hope yours is the same way!

Good luck with everything! Just write your vows from the heart. Don't try to be too poetic or anything, just be you. It will mean more and you will be able to express everything you feel for FH in your own words. Don't panic - it will come!

We'll all be thinking of you this weekend! Can't wait to see pics!

THANK YOU ALL!!!
I want to thank you all for your support and feed back while planning this whole thing.

Today and the rest of this trip is all about ENJOYING time with both our families. No more running around just relaxing. I'm just peeking in for a sec while I transfer pics from my camera to the computer.

Yesterday was AWESOME.
Once I get back and have a chance to write it all down I will.
I did however have my camera dropped in the sand yesterday and now the lens wont come out so the camera's basically useless. I don't know. I might just try to get a cheepy one or something.
