I know a few of you have mentioned that your FH has chosen a tungsten or titanium wedding band.. and I have a few questions!

Where did you purchase it from?
If you purchased it online, were you happy with what you got?
Did you get it engraved? If so, how much did it cost?

FH and I were going around looking at bands today and we were kind of disappointed to find out that the jewelry stores won't engrave them. We were also kind of worried about the fact that they can never be resized.

What are your experiences with these types of bands?

My DH has a Titanium Ring because of working outside in all weathers on the roads. He wanted something different from 9ct Gold. And something that won't get "Bashed" out of shape.

I found this online. Might be of some help to You.

I tried to copy and paste it here to read. But it wont let Me. :whyme:

I wouldn't let my husband get one for the fact that it can never be resized, if he has to get it cut off they can't do that they have to crush it off, and they are more resistant to scratching but they will scratch over time and they can never be buffed out like gold.

I know a lot of people are getting them because they're "trendy" and stuff, thats why my DH loved them, but you have to think practical and down the road into the future, in 15 years when he's maybe put on a little weight or whatnot do you really wanna have to buy a new ring?

But otherwise, here we could get them at any jewelry store pretty much (Zales, Kays, etc) but they won't engrave them because they can't, the metal's too hard to be manipulated in any way. They usually are a little cheaper but if you have to buy another ring in 10 years it might not be worth it.

These are just all my opinions, but these were what I looked at when we made our decision (we ring hunted for MONTHS!!)

Good luck!!

I purchased DH from titanium kay as well.

I guess before I bought it I wasn't aware they were trendy, or that after a while they would scratch. But DH really didnt feel like he needed a ring, so I had to find one that fit his personality really well. And he loved it. Although I will say his is a little big.

Sorry its so big.

My hubby originally wanted a titanium band as well, that is until the sales lady started talking about the pros and cons of them. He doesn't like that it's not resizable and she also told us that while they are very strong, they have been known to "crack" completely in half if hit the right way. With field training and what not, that wouldn't be good. So high-polished gold it is, and when it gets really scratched, we'll just take it in to have the scratches buffed out.

My husband and I agreed on Tungsten because he works in the garage a lot - and his previous ring (from another relationship) broke when he dropped a transmission on his hand. Well, if that happens again, the Tungsten ring is supposed to save his hand. We're bound to find out.

I got his from Mervyns - it was 60% off and I had a 40% off coupon.. so it ended up being like $20 out of my pocket. I don't recommend them because there's no warranty (and Mervyns is closing), but he really likes the style, so I'm happy that he's happy with it.

DH Has a titanium band and he loves it! We got it at a Zales outlet we have around where we live. And it was only $99.

They all tell you that it can't be cut off because they want to sell you a more expensive ring. But the person we worked with said it CAN be cut off its just they cant do it at the store it would have to be done at the hospital. Which would be a hassle but they don't have to cut you finger off like everyone makes you think!

But anyways hes happy with it and we have had no problems with it!

Check out this thread:

My DH found a tungsten carbide ring at the Rodeo that he fell in love with and I DID find a local jeweler who worked with a company that they sent their rings out to be laser engraved. It cost me $80 to engrave the ring, but they did an awesome job with it. There are pictures of Mack's ring in that linked thread.

Hope this helps!

Why were you looking at those rings? Because of the trend? or so it's not as fragile as gold/platinum rings?

Fiance and I have been looking at Koa wood rings (http://www.koawoodrings.com/), he loves Hawai'i and doesn't want something generic. If you're just looking for something different maybe look into these...it's set in titanium so it's stronger than just wood. But it can't be resized. And I've seen other woods used in the ring.

DH has a tungsten ring. He loved the look of it and he liked that it was sturdy. We paid under $100 for it on E-bay. The only bad thing is that it can't be resized. DH recently lost about 50lbs and we may have to get him a new ring eventually. But even if we do have to get him a new one he really likes the tungsten so he said he would want to get one again.

I didn't realize tungsten was a "trendy" ring? haha I guess I'm outta the loop on that one :)

FH and I picked the Tungsten ring because it's black and fits his personality perfectly. We also liked the fact that its meant to break if he ever got into a situation where his finger got caught. We bought his at Kay's for under $200. We really like it.

Titanium rings can be resized by a UK company who have a website. My advice is try these guys http://www.love2have.co.uk/ for all the information you need on buying a titanium ring.
