Family? Just you and FH? Eat in? Eat out? Traditional turkey food or do you have something else in mind? How do you plan to celebrate Thanksgiving this year?

FH and I are going to Vegas early Thursday morning and spending the weekend there. It's sort of become a turkey day tradition with us. We're going to a buffet for our Thanksgiving meal...how Vegas, right? :winktongue: Can't wait. :)

Me and the hunny are having Thanksgiving at our house! I love cooking, so i'm making all the food (traditional) and having the family over. Plus I just LOVE waking up early and watching the Macy's parade with some hot cocoa!!! One of these years I would love to go to see the parade in person! But until then, its the tv for me lol.

We're staying here (fiance's parents' house), and the rest of their family is coming. We are kind of undecided yet if we'll go to my parents' house for pie or something like that... but I told him that for sure next year I wanted to spend it with my family since this is the second year in a row we're mostly spending it with his. I even said we should have them over at our apartment...haha. I'm not sure that I could handle making a huge meal, but maybe... if they came over early to help.

AH! I'm soo jealous!!! Take pictures of Santa!! :D

We are headed up to Upper Michigan by my parents on Wednesday night and coming home Sunday. My grandparents and my brother will be there too! My mom and grandma are great cooks, so we always have the best meals! Turkey (a super big one for turkey sandwiches for the weekend and turkey and rice soup!), mashed potatoes, corn, etc. YUM! Can't wait!

We are not really doing anything with my side of the family; I am sort of relieved. We are having an early dinner/late lunch (1pm I think) with DH's Dad and his wife and her daughter and her family. I am making a turkey, so I will have to get up early to get it in the oven ;)

Then we are thinking of having steak for dinner at home and then put up our Christmas tree; I am so excited about that part :D

Hubby and I are eating at Boston Market. We've been having Thanksgiving by ourselves for 4 years now and that's where we go. Hopefully next year we can be with family. We just can't afford to fly and see them right now.

What will *probably* happen (hubby still needs to contact his family) is that we will attend my families Thanksgiving (we have like a lunch/dinner) with all the traditional foods.... and than later that day end up at his side of the family's house =) I will be SO full!

We're going to my in-laws. We live about 50 minutes away from them, so we'll sleep over Weds night through Thurs afternoon. Dessert at my family's house.
I'm actually making all the food this year, here's the tentative menu :):

Turkey (brined the night before in apple cider, brown sugar, salt, rosemary, thyme, and iced water); the day of, I put it in the oven with olive oil, salt and pepper on the skin.

Either maple glazed sweet potatoes or twice baked potatoes (haven't decided yet)

Green bean casserole (all homemade, none of that nasty canned mushroom soup! Ick!)

Cranberry sauce

Pumpkin rum pie with whipped cream and praline pecans on top

.........I am going to be one busy woman this week.:chimp:

I'm just thankful for the early schedule! Our store is freaking open till 5. I can't even tell you how many kinds of wrong that is. But thats a different rant all together. :D

We won't be able to make the trip back to Wisconsin for Thanksgiving, since we'll be going for Christmas. So we're having Thanksgiving dinner here at our house and he's inviting some of his Marine friends that aren't going home over. It's the first time I'll cook a turkey, but I'm more excited about it than scared. 2 days of cooking, here I come! :D

So Far.........

Friday night had an early Thanksgiving with my sister, mom neices and great niece and great nephew.

Then Saturday, went up north to have Thanksgiving with my grandpa and uncle. Had dinner Saturday late afternoon, and raked leaves all day Sunday. Also had a chance to tour a reception hall where my grandpa lives, but that's another topic.

And Thursday, will be preparing Thanksgiving for my mom, brother, nephew and FH!

Every year since we moved in together (except once, where FIL insisted on having seasick me and DH on his boat :gurn:), we have hosted Thanksgiving for us, our parents, and our friends without families. DH makes the bird, I make yams, taters, and a veggie side dish, and his friends bring this awesome country stuffing. Other friends aren't as consistent (though our officiant claimed the cranberry sauce), so we'll be surprised!

I always look forward to Thanksgiving, as it is the only holiday where I get to be the hostess.

Seeing as I'm Canadian and I've already had my Thanksgiving I wont be doing anything special. I will be working until 8 Thursday, so no time to make a big supper. I have been craving pumpkin pie, so I might make one sometime this week.

This year we're going over to my mom's house so that Fiance and I can be with my parents and my brother. So far the menu includes mashed sweet potatoes, turkey, gravy, plain stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans almondine, Ceasar salad, green salad, egg bread, and orange-cranberry sauce. Dessert will be pumpkin pie and apple pie, with either whipped cream or cinnamon ice cream, which everybody in my family likes but me. I dunno, though (see below) -- two kinds of potatoes, two kinds of pie, two kinds of salad, etc etc . . . and there will only be 5 people . . . it seems a little excessive.

I will get up in time to watch the Macy's parade while I bake the pie. I love parades!

Then on Saturday we will all go over to my in-laws, where the menu will be mashed potatoes, turkey, dollar rolls, potato salad, turkey gravy, and shrimp.

Next week sometime (when Fiance and I get around to wanting to eat turkey again), *I* will make turkey, turkey gravy, giblet stuffing, mashed potatoes, green and yellow beans, boiled carrots, and probably another apple pie for ourselves. Fiance hates most veggies, so our Thanksgiving dinner will probably be light on veggies, at least, for him, though he'll eat the beans.

One of these days I'm going to convince my family that life will go on if they don't see me, and Fiance and I will have a private Thanksgiving at home, just the two of us.

I know Thanksgiving came from a harvest feast and the whole point is to gorge yourself silly on the fall harvest bounty (and in the pre-electricity days, use up as much of the fresh food as you could, either by eating it or preparing and then preserving it), but I just have never been able to eat that much food -- at least, not in one sitting.

Mom says she's planning on making turkey again for Christmas. In which case I am going to go to the store and buy a ham!!! Or maybe lamb . . . anything but turkey!!!!

It's tradition in my family that the Friday after Thanksgiving (and the weekend too) is spent putting up Christmas decorations . . . but I don't know if we're going to be able to do that this year, what with one thing and another. We'll see what happens!

Ok so with possibly weather problems and the cost of driving to NYC and back, meals, hotel, etc. we've decided to cancel our parade plans and just have a frugal Thanksgiving here in town. Especially because we are traveling to Philly the following weekend for a reunion and a Hanukkah party.

So far I've come up with the following activity for the day: Buy some champagne to mix with our ice wine from Canada (as recommended by the winery owner). Mmm!

I've decided to do something extra-special (and horrible for you!) and make buttermilk-battered deep fried green beans in honor of my homesick Texan friend who's bringing the stuffing and pecan pie.

I'm also making yams with a pecan and coconut topping, mashed potatoes from yukon golds, and honey-mustard acorn squash halves. YUM.
