Wow.
In the space of 45 minutes --
My Deputy MoH's husband gets hit by an SUV as he's riding his bike (not a motorcycle!) home from work. He can't remember whether or not he hit his head, but his helmet is toast, so he gets taken to the ER. Turns out the helmet saved his butt (or should I say, saved his head! LOL!) but he's got a separated shoulder. No other injuries, thankfully, and the SUV driver stepped up and took the responsibility, when they could have fled.
AT THE SAME TIME my Deputy MoH's mom-in-law, whom I know slightly, calls my DMoH (after not having reached her son, for obvious reasons) saying that she's fallen down her back steps and can't get up, she can't put any weight on her knee, she needs them to come take her to the hospital. DMoH leaves hubby at the ER and drives across the city to get her MIL and take her to the closest ER. Turns out that DMoH's MIL has broken her knee, but should be getting out of the hospital today after spending last night and most of yesterday in there.
While this is all happening the sister of my best friend and MoH (not the Deputy, the other one!), who is a friend of mine in her own right, gets hit by a teenager who wasn't paying any attention at all. He manages to total her *Suburban* though she walks away with only a couple bruises and some stiffness.
What's that saying about trouble always coming in threes?
It was pretty crazy around here a couple nights ago. Luckily, nobody is seriously injured and everybody is expected to make a full recovery. My DMoH and her husband will be staying at their MIL's place for a while to help her through the initial recovery (which will be nice for me, it's a LOT closer to where I live than their own home) and hopefully in a couple weeks -- definitely by Christmas -- things will be getting back to normal.
It's also handy that by the time I have MY surgery on the 9th, that MoH will be in town 24 hours later so that when Fiance goes back to work, MoH can be on hand just in case, and I don't have to ask DMoH to help me, when she's got her own hands full. It's lucky things worked out like that.
But I do wish that all these things hadn't happened in the first place!
