Ok ladies.. I am at a lose when it comes to decorating things in my home. I know that I want to take my allready decorated sunflower theme in my kitchen to a coffee themed kitchen. My dh refuses to let me paint the walls!
So I have the plain boring sterle white walls. I have no idea where to begin to look for things to decorate my kitchen and get the feel of the coffee theme i'm looking for! Can you ladies help me with some idea on what I can do to decorate my kichen and get that coffee theme feel.. HELP ME PLEASE

Here is an article I found on decorating a coffee theme kitchen (http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/751351/how_to_decorate_your_kitchen_in_a_coffee.html?cat= 30)

Well, to be honest I think paint can have A LOT to do with it. Are you sure he won't consider a nice warm color to spice things up a bit? You wouldn't have to do anything crazy, but a nice coat of paint can do wonders to a room, especially a kitchen!

If he doesn't want to paint the whole kitchen how about an accent wall?

I was in target today looking at stuff for my kitchen and just remembered that they have a good amount of coffee themed stuff for your kitchen.

You could get veses etc and fill them with coffee beens for decor.

Or get on ebay and look for out coffee tins or coffee grinders. etc.

I cant say enough about flea markets, garage sales & bargain stores! You can find unusual & original stuff at these places. Good luck and happy hunting, I can't wait to get into our apartment so we can hit all these places up and decorate in our own style! Good luck!

Thank you ladies for all the suggestions so far, please keep them coming. I did pick up some wall decor and placemats at kohls today and some accent things at Target. I want to paint our kitchen, I really do, but dh says it's to time consuming and to hard to do. ERRR:icon_barbar:I do like the idea of just using an accent wall and building my coffee themed kichen around that. My appliances are steril white and they are in great condition so I won't be replaceing those. It did cross my mind to purchase a new toaster and can opener in a differant color to help accent my new kichen idea. But that won't be happening.Only if I could just paint that darn kitchen. :chair:. I'll post pics of my current kitchen to give you guys an idea of what i'm working with very soon.

Me too. Infact DH can go out to work and come home to find allsorts done indoors.
Once he came home to find the PC and Desk moved from the Lounge to the front bedroom. The front bedroom moved into the back bedroom. And the back bedroom in the front with the Desk.

Another time He came home to find the Lounge wallpaper stripped (He had to plaster the walls) Another time He came home to find the wallpaper stripped off the walls in the front bedroom. The following weekend He found the Hall, Stairs and Landing Painted.

DH's "Trade" is a Painter and Decorator. But for some reason He has blinkers on when it comes to doing the home up. He said once "But I'm a Groundworker now" so i told Him to go in the back garden and dig Me a couple of flower beds instead LOL.

I call DIY "DIM" Do It Myself hehehe.

Painting really isn't all that difficult -- and it's NOT time consuming. I did an entire 12x12 room in 2 hours!

Buy the best paint you can afford -- that way you won't have to do two coats. None of the paint in my house is two coats save for the white trim (and that's because it was white on top of stained wood, the wood kept showing through . . . some places took 2 priming coats AND two paint coats!!!)

If it's white already and you're going for a darker color you won't need to prime --- and that will cut your time in half.

Get some rollers. Painting by hand does take a while but with rollers (the extendable kind) you can also cut down your time. I did one wall in 20 minutes.

Painting a kitchen is easily a project where, if you start at 9am after breakfast, you can be done in time for lunch. Unless you have a REALLY big kitchen.

Check out my DIY house journal to see what I mean. We stripped wallpaper, primed, and painted AND re-did all the cabinets . . . and if we'd been ambitious, we probably could have done it all in one day. We were lazy so it took about three days!

If you just have to paint it's not hard at all. Just remember not to saturate your rollers (that's how you get permanent drips!) and when you roll, go in all kinds of different directions, that's how you avoid lines and blend the paint in. Oh -- and choose a paint with just a little bit of gloss in it to help your paint stand up to the high temps and steam and cleaning the walls and so on that goes on in a kitchen. Ask at the store, they'll know what kind you need.

HTH,

Here is as promised a picture of my kitchen. Sorry it is so small...:(
I am in the process of rearranging things and taking down my sunflower theme and putting up the new coffee theme. I did manage to stop by the GoodWill and the Salvation Army, and found nothing:irked: My MIL mentioned having some kind of old coffee grinder.. now I just have to talk her out of it.
I did manage to find a kichen rug, some towels and a tin coffee cup I can hung up today...My next stops are Big Lots and the 7 mile fair....

Oh my, I have been in your exact situation! My husband thinks white is clean and opens the room more. We had just replaced all the old baseboard trim in our house. And I finally convinced him we should paint (even just a really neutral color) to help the trim pop. The trim is white, so they just blended in before to the white walls. So after we did it, he agreed it looks much better then before.

Redoing my kichen has become more of a headache then I originally hoped for. Looking for accents to my new "coffe themed" kichen is not as easy as I hoped for. But there is plenty of stuff out there for the "Fat Chief" guy with the bistro theme. Maybe I should have went that direction. But I can't cook worth a darn. But can make a mean cup of coffee.. I bought a "RELAX" sign at the dollar store and painted it black. I have taken trips all over and nothing. My mother in law has an old coffee grinder in her kitchen bolted to her wall that she refuses to give up.. I guess I will have to go there and just take it down when she is not home:innocent:
I will continue to keep you guys posted and keep the pics coming as my remodel takes place..:bbeek:

Kitchen decoring, I'm on my way over, pick me up at the airport in 5 minutes. Better make it in 2.

Try some wall borders. Here's a sampling (http://www.usawallpaper.com/coffeeexpresso.html)

Here's some coffee decor on Ebay (http://business.shop.ebay.com/items/Furniture-Signs-Decor__W0QQ_nkwZcoffeeQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZQQ_mdoZBus inessQ2dIndustrialQQ_pcatsZ11874Q2c12576QQ_sacatZ5 7093) Coffee house signs, furniture, etc.

You could even search from some vintage coffee cans, vintage coffee makers, replica coffee house espresso makers, etc.

Yes the vinyl is re-positional and shouldn't leave any residue.

Check out the website for cricut. I've got the Plantain Schoolbook and Opposites Attract text fonts. The schoolbook font is straight up and down or italic.(kinda looks like Times New Roman) The Opposites Attract has one that looks like printing and one that is cursive.

I have the vinyl lettering all over my house! After we built our home and I had to hunt all over the internet to get what I wanted, they now have them sometimes in joann fabrics and kirklands, as well as every once in a while target. But either way, I love them and it adds character. The one above our bed is my favorite, it says : Always kiss me goodnight
As far as decorating otherwise, my kitchen is somewhat plain. I have planter shelves above the cabinets so i bought some fancy vases and put them up there. and just a few things on the wall where the table is. but nothing much really.
Good luck hun!

Why not paint the kitchen together? My girlfriend and I just finishing painting her kitchen in a light tan-brown color. It was her idea and it looks really nice with the white cupboards. We had lots of fun with this little project. You know, if it doesn't look nice, you can always paint it back to the color it was before.

I've been racking my brain on how to mount the vinyl letters without using the tape. I think I've come up with a way that will be easy and not as expensive. Take a piece of blue painters tape and a level. Holding the level and the tape together with the sticky side out find level on the wall and press the tape against the wall. Then you can mount the letters above the tape along the edge and voila level lettering. Hope that helps. I've got a cute idea for the surprise too but I don't want to spoil it yet.

Ok, the idea I had was to take a old coffee mug and cut it in half leaving the handle on it. Glue it to the plaque and then you could place dried or silk flowers in it for color. I think you could cut it with a tile or hack saw. and if you go to the dollar store if you broke one it wouldn't be too bad. Or what about a enameled metal one? Any how that is what I've been playing with in my mind.

I guess I'm getting to redo my kitchen through you. I inherited one with geese, blue dotted wall paper, cream Formica, and a mish mash of appliances old and new. RC doesn't see the need to dress it up or paint or anything so until he does your new kitchen is my new kitchen. Let me know if you need any more letters or you think of anything else. I'm so glad you like them.

Here is an article I found on decorating a coffee theme kitchen (http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/751351/how_to_decorate_your_kitchen_in_a_coffee.html?cat= 30)

this is what i did to my kichen because it's reallt easy to find stuff. i just made it our "cafe"
i used chalk board paint instead of a border around the kitchen and put up a fake menu and stuff. i love it

did you make up the fake menu.. or did you find it somewhere. I have thought of doing a fake menu.. buying a black frame and putting it up in the kitchen..

I would love to borrow you my kitchen to redo! I need all the help I can get. Even though things are coming along. You will have to tell RC that you helped me with mine.. now I want to help you with yours..:)
I'm in the process of putting the letters on the wall actually. My dh mouth dropped when he saw some of the lettering on the wall. He thought they were there permently. I told him they come right off.. silly guy:snide:

I have some pics on what I have done with the kitchen so far with what I have found or been given...please do not pay attention to my dirty kichen..:bbeek: I was thinking that I could find some coffee cups and display them along the top of my cabnits.. what are your thoughts ladies?? How does everything look so far? The letters Liz sent me were a life savor, that is just what my kitchen needed:) I also found little wooden things like the "RELAX" I have on top of my cabnits that read "BELIEVE" and "DREAM" that I just have to do some touch up on. that to will go in the kitchen..

I think everything is really looking great! I was looking at some of your appliances, and if you really wanted to add color in there without painting, you get get a more colorful teapot, or can opener, etc. Although, they look pretty new, but just a thought for the future!

Or, what about going to an antique shop and try to find some old coffee tins to put on top of the cabinets?? Check out some of these on Ebay, they are too cool!!!! http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=antique+coffee+tin

I could go for broke on EBay.. I have lived on there since starting my remodel! Now getting my dh to let me do it is another story. He is a little iffy about getting things off EBay. But I am in the process of getting an old coffee grinder from there. I never thought of old coffee tins.. hmmm..thanks for the idea..
