My FH and I are driving to Boston and then to Maine.. East Port to be exact and I was wondering if anyone here was from Maine and if you were, if you could tell me some attractions that we should see while we are there.

We are up for anything, we like museums, nature stuff, etc. We're going to the Acadia Nt'l Park (think that's what it's called..) and seeing things such as the "Old Sow", some Indian Reservation Museum, but we need more! =)

Any help would be really great and greatly appreciated, thanks!

Well ther is not alot in MAine I guess it depends which way your traveling. If you going through Bangor then be sure to stop and see Stephen Kings house if your a fan. I am not realy but I have seen it and got pictures. It is kinda cool. But that is jsut something simple. If you are driving up the coast, which is somethign I am wanting to do in the furture as I head home to visit one of these times, there is alot to see. I love the coast of Maine.

I used to go to Easstport every year for the 4th of July. They have a week long event. It is realy kinda cool. They have the big navel ship dock there that week.

I will see what I can find for ya. I grew up there but never did much. And Lizabeth lives in maine she may have some ideas for ya. But like I said which way are you going? If you go the coast you can stop and see Rosavelts Cottage, I saw that many times as a child. And just outside of Calais, Where I am getting married, ther eis the St. Croix Island. You cant go to the island but it is one major spot of history in that town. And they just redid it all nice with statues and such. Hope I helped you a little.

Yeah maybe I should have said where we are going. We are going up the coast to Eastport.. FH thought it would be cool to go to the city that is the farthest east.. (he's weird I guess!)

I'm really excited to see Maine... I believe we will go through New Hampshire also... We're driving across New York to Boston first then we're going up the coast to Eastport.

Well you learn sometign every day don't ya. I thought Calais was the furthest eat you could get. But after looking at a map it is very close but Eastport is the furthest. Not by much.

If you going up the coast then you might want to stop at Bar Harbor. I have never been but have heard it is realy nice.

I am kinda disapointed that Calais is no the most Eastern city. But like I said it is close.

Hope you have a good time on your trip. when are you going?

Oh we're actually going there for our honeymoon. I'm afraid of flying so that rules out ALOT of places, but we decided to go to the New England states because we have never been there before. I'm really excited to go there. I've always wanted to visit there.

Maine does have some gorgeous scenery depending on what part you go to! Stephen King's house is awesome! But, now that I drive by it everyday, it is just another house! There is plenty to do here, especially if you are an outdoorsy type of person! Those should give you some ideas of some good spots to hit! And definitely, if you can, go to Rockland and check out the breakwater and also make a trip to Bar Harbor! Have fun!

Is the cost of living high in Maine? How are gas prices, housing, the job market?

If anyone knows this info.. thanks..

That really all depends on which part you are in and what you do for work. A lot of retail is coming to the Bangor area, the gas price is $2.75 a gallon right now and a two bedroom goes for about $700 a month. I know there is more of a job market in Portland, but I don't know the gas prices or housing costs. I think it is fairly reasonable here compared to some of the other states.

www.bangordailynews.com (http://www.bangordailynews.com) will show you about some apartments, homes and jobs in the Bangor area

www.jobsinme.com (http://www.jobsinme.com) has some more jobs

Ahh..here, here is a link to all of the newspapers http://www.usnpl.com/menews.html It really is a nice place to live.

Calais is realy cheap to live in but there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THERE!! And I mean nothing. The nearest mall is in Bangor. It is crazy. I go home for a visit and after 2 days I cant wait to get outta there lol.
