Wow, that is scary. What proof of how bad the ecomony is! I guess it's really no big surprise to see stores like JC Penny and Macy's on there 'cause I've heard they've got bad organization behind them. Thankfully the head people at Kohl's (where I work) remain conservative, money-wise, so they don't seem to be in trouble.

Hopefully they don't close any of the Fashion Bug stores where my mom goes... that's her favorite store! And that's also a bummer about the Disney stores; those used to be my favorite... but stuff was so expensive. And it's also a little scary about the Sprint stores... who would think such a booming industry like cell phones would be having trouble? That's the company we use! Scariness.

OMG that's scary. :bbeek: All those jobs on the line. And just before Christmas.

If they are closing "All Stores" then that sounds like the company going to the wall. And those with only "Some" shops appears to be cut backs. Either way it's not looking good.

Good idea, looking it up on Snopes. The outcomes look much better there.

Still, that's a whole lot of jobless people.
The workforce is already really competitive (at least here in Cali I know it is)..
People are strapped for money.. :(
I read reviews that Christmas shopping is actually going to be cut down a lot this year.
People are trying to save now for rough times up ahead..
I know I AM for sure..:bbeek:

It is a little confusing to me though, because some of those stores are opening NEW stores here. JC Penny's is currently building a new store here in town right now.

There are a lot of stores on that list! It probably is good advice to not buy gift cards from those places. I'm not much of one to buy gift cards unless it is for out to eat somewhere.

That is so sad about the store closings. Thanks so much for the update. I got burned once with a gift card that was no longer good when a store closed. Now I try to use them quickly so it doesn;'t happen again. I hope this situation with our economy gets better soon. It's so hard to plan a wedding, what with the cost of everything, and it seems that prices are still high. Good luck Dogmom

I looked up only a few stores and it seems legit. But even if all of these stores are staying open.. They have to be cutting back and laying off thousands of people.

Here in Hamilton County a total of 300 people that work for the state got laid off last week. Sad part is.. one of the guys I work with his wife works for the state. 13 years to be exact.. and she got laid off. She said she was at the top of a 6 page list as for as seniority goes.

I didn't mean to scare anyone. It just seems all to real yano..

Either way.. just be careful who you buy gift cards from. Heck I would be scared to buy any gift cards from anywhere at this point.:o

In the UK We have vouchers called "Love To Shop" and they cover almost every shop in town. We plan on getting them for Christmas 2009. Our next door neighbour has a Catalogue that sells them and You pay weekly. (We made sure that the Catalogue is covered by insurance incase they go to the wall too)

DH pushed the boat out and ordered £1,500 worth for next year. We get them in November so that should cover us for Christmas. We also ordered a Christmas hamper too.

This Christmas will be tight and lucky enough the Kids are OK about having less this year. But hopefully with the vouchers next year will be a better one.

Makes a change for Me to be ahead of the game :winktongue:

And if there's any vouchers left over after the Kids pressies. Then Mitchymoo gets new wardrobes for the bedroom. Hoorah LOL.

OMGGGG I miss Bombay. Our has been closed for some time now. That was my favorite home store and like 90% of my Christmas gifts from my mom would always come from there. One of my favorite gifts was a set of awesome swirly wine glasses from there and if they break I am SOL for replacements. :whyme: I will seriously cry if that ever happens. I searched high and low for extras before they closed up, but couldn't find any. I am going to have to conduct interviews before offering someone wine-"Are you worthy to hold this glass? Will you be able to handle the emotions that will spring forth if you break it?"

I was kind of happy to see our Linens & Things go. We had a gift card from the wedding and cleaned up at the liquidation sale. :winktongue:
