View Full Version : I'm either pregant or really sick

So for the past month I have been sick ever since I got back from Hawaii.

First it was the flu now its a sinus infection because I didn't treat my flu well (get plenty of rest, drink lots of fluids etc etc).

Right now I am on antibiotics but the doctor don't want to give me anything stronger because I may be pregnant.

I hate this waiting game! I am 14 days late on my period but the last 2 pregnancy test were negative.

what else should I be looking out for?

I have been taking my prenatal pills. :)

I feel so bloated right now, I think these meds have been messing up my stomach.

Can your doctor give you a blood test? I guess I'd ask for that if my pee tests were negative.

Is 15 days late on my period too early for it to show on the pee test?

I think it would show after just a few days... some of those tests even advertise 4 days BEFORE your first missed period. That being said - some people don't generate enough of the hormone those tests read so they don't pick up that they're preg.

15 days late is not too early, but I would get a blood test to be sure. Sometimes you can get false negatives with the urine tests, because the hcg levels may not be high enough in your system.

What are your symptoms? Nausea? Any breast tenderness?

I don't have any useful advice, so I'm just sharing that when I first saw your post I could only see "I'm either pregnant or really" and my mind just filled in "fat" before I read the rest. Geez :bbeek:

I think I read that your HCG levels actually go down after a week or ten days and they won't register anymore on a pee test... not sure where I read that, though.

Thanks everyone for your advise! I will prolly get a blood test when I go see my doc Friday just to be sure but boy do I HATE needles :bbeek:

Tiredness ALL day, some nausea like in the middle of the night - I haven't actually thrown up yet but I would wake up at like 4am and sit straight up because I feel the throw up coming up. No breast tenderness. I've had some sharp pains in my tummy sometimes.

No, actually they go up for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy and are what sustains the pregnancy until the placenta takes over at 12 weeks.

You can take a test as early as the day your period is due with fair (high 90%'s) accuracy, and 15 days late is more than enough time for it to show up. I would request a beta Hcg and if you are not PG see your gyno for other reasons for your MIA period.

Good luck!

My ex and his ex-wife went through 6 pg tests and they were all negative, and she was like 2 months with their little boy. Sometimes they just don't work for some people. she had to get a blood test to tell.

Update us when you know something!

thank you guys, you all are so sweet!

I should hear from the doctors office today. The funny thing is I left my cell phone at home LOL but I will pick it up during my lunch since I go there to eat anyways.

We are really hoping its positive for a baby! Ever since my brother came for thanksgiving with my 2 year old niece he's been so persistent on having one.

And I have been feeling a little better, I can finally breath through my nose again lol

thank you :)

Since your a nurse do you recommend a good time to conceive? I read that you have to have sex 14 days before your period starts. But my period is all over the place.

Just have sex every day for a month, you're bound to hit that specific "good timing" :winktongue:

Sorry about no baby. Matt and I got our hopes up last week too, but we were disappointed. Good idea though - now we have our hubbies to ourselves for a while longer!

Almost a nurse :)
But, it's hard to say. If your period is unpredictable, it can be very tough to tell when you're ovulating. Have you talked to an OB about this? And are you taking prenatal vitamins yet?

I did talk to my OB about it a few months ago when I went for my annual exam and am taking prenatal. She didnt give me much advise so I am trying to find another OB.

Good luck on becoming a nurse :D

If you are actively trying to conceive I really recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler.

http://www.ovusoft.com/

My husband's cousin and a another friend of mine swore by it so I read it and the first month we tried, DH and I got pregnant! We are now expecting our first in July of 2009.

Good luck!!

Yes...definitely find a new OB!! There could be something going on that is causing the problems. But generally the rule of thumb is 1 year of unprotected sex.....if no baby after that, then fertility treatments would be an option. I'm sure you'll be fine though!
Thanks for the good luck...3 semesters and 1 summer to go! :chimp:

Sorry about no baby. I completly understand how you feel. I stopped taking bc back in September and my hormones are all over the place sometimes giving pregnancy symtoms and its very heartbreaking finding out each time that is just my body being dumb. I havent had a real period since my last "pill period" just lots of spotting. Its really no fun not knowing where in your cycle you are. I could also try the sex everyday method haha but that would be too much work. Ive decided not to get my hopes up and to try not to think about it until my body goes back to normal if it ever does.

Good luck and I would defineitley find a new OB.

There are ovulation test strips you can buy (like the urine-pregnancy tests). They tell you when your body is ovulating. There's a 20-day pack at Wal-mart for $18, which is good for people with irregular periods. That would be my suggestion to you. Then you won't have to do it everyday for a month!:)
