Hey so I live relatively close to the Canadian border, and the exchange rate just did a huge swing in the favor of Americans. If I were to find a dress that was $1000 USD, in Canada right now the exchange rate would make it be about $800. Of course my budget doesn't include a $1000 dress, but it's an easy round number.

Anyways, I haven't found a dress, and I'm fairly certain many of the shops in the US are going to be different than the shops in Canada. Does anybody have any advice on how to find a good shop? Or have any experience buying a dress from a distance? I would be looking in the Vancouver BC area.

I have talked with customs and if I spend more than 48 hours abroad I can come back with up to $800 w/o having to declare it.

You are right about the exchange - it's in your favour right now.

We don't have chain bridal stores like you do in the states but if you are headed to Vancouver, all you need to do is some online googling for "Bridal shops Vancouver". You might also check out Victoria.

If you are looking for a specific dress, you can always call ahead to ask if they carry it and/or will have it in stock.

Hmmmmmm I would also contact a wedding planner in Vancouver and ask them :)

Enjoy your weekend in Vancouver! It's a lovely city :)
