So I go into work this morning and the alarm was shut off. Sometimes the owners come in early and don't reset the alarm after they leave so I didn't think much about it.
I go to the safe to get the money out for today's cruises, and the money bags are there, but no money! I call my co-worker and she was just arriving here, has no idea where the money could be.
So I have spent the morning with the Sherriff.
Oh Joy!

A law firm I worked for about 2 years ago was burglarized over Thanksgiving weekend. They broke in a back door, stole computers, dug through files, etc. They didn't steal any money as we had just gone to the bank.
What I didn't like was the fact that the burglars could have gone through personal things. They saw what I look like, my family, etc. Ugh. It still bothers me.
Hopefully they can catch the crooks! What a way to start off the week.

Glad no one was hurt. Is your company insured for theft?

I spent all day with the sheriff as I was the one to find out that we were stolen from. They got a significant amount of Money as the office is closed on weekends, so they got all the profits from Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
We are pretty sure that it is someone who knows their way around our business, as they had to have used a key, the alarm code and the safe key.
We do have insurance, we will see if it is worth it to file a claim. It was a very stressful day though.
Unfortunately when I got to work, there was no indication that we were robbed, so I touched the only surfaces that could be fingerprinted, so that was no help to the sheriff. The door was broken down or anything like that. Seemed just like any other day.

I know what your feeling. I've had my stores broken into, the transfer dock where I go broken into (and it's in a back alley with no lights) and none of them have alarms. And just this past Friday, I turned the corner to head to one of my Auto Stores to drop freight and the whole area was blocked. Someone broke into the Wells Fargo Bank kitty corner to my store. Lucky for me, one of the local police officers knew who I was (for when they see me in town, they follow me to my transfer and stand gaurd till i'm done) and told the sheriff deputy to let me thru to deliver my freight.
I've only once caught someone in the act of trying to rob one of my stores, and lucky for me I saw him thru a window and was able to call the police. He went thru the front door and I deliver to the back, good thing I drove around the front side and saw the door was open. So now I drive all around my stores and look at them just to be sure.
That's why I carry a big metal hook with me and always have my cell on my belt. You never know. Plus I'm ready just incase:icon_barbar:

Heck, I'd carry something hotter than a big metal hook, if your state allows CCW.

That is really scary! I am glad everyone was alright. Bummer you had to deal with the cops all day though. I am sure you were ready to just go home.

You poor thing! It's really stressful, having to talk to the police. I know kind of how you feel- The store where I work was broken into not long ago. They smashed their way through the front window and stole all the silver change out the tills. We do that on purpose, just for such an occasion- take out the notes and the gold money (that's $1 and $2 coins!) and leave the small stuff in the till. For all their trouble, they took off with like $17.85 in small change and a couple of bright orange polos.
It must be extra stressful for you though, knowing that it is potentially someone you work with who took the money? That would skeeve me out more then if it was just a random robbery, I think.
Hope they catch them quickly!

Things are calmed down a bit now. New door locks, new passwords on the alarm and new video surveillance is all under way!
I wasn't really scared, I am positive it was someone who knows their way around, somehow that makes it a little less creepy than if I had come to work and the door was busted in and that type of thing. Instead, I came to work and everything looked normal, that is until after I had opened the safe. :whyme:
My office is in a very remote area, so if it was a violent act I don't know that I would want to be here by myself all the time.
