Just wondering if any of you have experience, or know of anyone with experience and how it went/goes if you get pregnant while on birth control and don't realize you're pregnant. Say, you're on B/C for a month before you realize you're pregnant. Any side effects to the baby?

There aren't any known risks, but obviously stop taking it the minute you have a positive pregnancy test. :)

All I know is B/C creates a less than welcoming environment for a baby in your uterus, so it's important to stop taking it right away. If someone gets pregnant while on the pill, the odds of the pregnancy going past the first trimester are lower.

There's not a whole lot of evidence that shows detriment to the fetus, but it is certainly best to stop taking the pill as soon as you discover you're pregnant. Chances of deformities are low, but still.....there's a chance.

I have no scientific information for you but my FH has a very healthy little nephew who was conceived while while his mother was on BC.

I just was at the Gyno yesterday and was asking how long you should wait to start trying after going off of it. And she said that really it doesn't matter they only advise people to wait for one period so that they can determine the due date easier. But she said that there are not real side affects to it, and she said that even if you get preg. on the pill there aren't really risks associated with it.

 I wish!!! I highly doubt it. It's wierd... I've been maintaining my weight (+15 lbs since the wedding), but my stomach, butt and thighs are getting bigger, I'm ALWAYS hungry (I'm rarely hungry, usually), I can eat a huge lunch, and my stomach will be growling for hours afterwards. It ticks me off - so I was thinkin, well, maybe I'm pregnant.... I took an at home test yesterday and didn't get any happy results. I'm on some heartburn meds that may be doin it, and my cube buddy says that it's the symptoms of an ulcer. Who knows. I wish it were that I was pregnant, but we're not tryin, and I'm pretty faithful takin my pill. Another year, and hopefully I'll have something to tell ya'll

Thanks for the update! As long as you take your pill at the same time everyday, the chances of not getting pregnant are about 98-99.9% When you and your hunny decide to start "trying" I would let your body have at least 2-3 cycles without the pill, especially if you have been taking it for a long time. :)

Thank you, and yes, I do take it at around the same time every day for the most part. I've been on it for 5 years off and on... and no surprises yet

I was on it for 5 years and didn't have any accidents I think bc accidents are few and far between taking into account how many people use it. by accidents i mean getting pregnant with perfect pill usage. I would think there would be no risk to the baby as long as you stopped as soon as you found out. Have you been doing more physical activty than usual? That can make you eat more.

Justina - Is it possible you may be depressed? (You don't have to answer). In college I went through a really bad spout of depression and was eating more and gaining weight. I was told that it was my coping mechanism.

Danielle, that's highly possible right now. I don't know if I've been as stressed out in my life as I am right now.... Hmmm deffinitely something to think about. Urgh. Now it's time to stop letting everything get to me.
