I dont know how it is for you where you are at, but here it is easier it start with your DL. And all you need is your old DL and your marriage license. If your DL is changed, its pretty easy for the SS card to be changed.
Only I had to wait until I got my Marriage License back from being filed with the county clerk before I could do anything, but I got it back Saturday so Im good to go!!
Good Luck!

You dont really need that! You have to pay for you DL, but your SS card is free and they "sell" you a form for it.
There is an article on OneWed, I believe that will give you all the info you need without charging you.
Sorry Ellen......not being rude.....Ive just found soooo many things that brides are tricked into thinking they HAVE to have when they dont! This being one of them!
I want to give an example............here it cost $10 to change your name on your license, and nothing to change the SS card. The kit is $25 wasted dollars, because you would still have to spend the $10 at the DVM, AND use THEIR forms!!!!

It's okay Cindy:) , I'm not making the best decisions here lately anyway...LOL!
I just thought that it would give her an idea of where to begin and how to do it....that's why we're all here...to help, learn and share with eachother!

I just hate that these places take advantage of brides. I got something similiar when my kids were born, telling me for a fee they would file for my babies SS card because "you know its the law that kids have a SS#". The hospital already did that and it cost NOTHING!!!!

Yeah, aside from the hospital bill. ;) They better at least include a filing fee.

Yeah you don't need to pay for a kit ... I would start with Social Security then the DMV. Then you can get the name changed with the other places (credit cards, insurance and such) with just your license. Some states will give you a free license name change when you get married.
I found this online a while back, it has all the details about changing your name after the wedding and it is FREE - http://www.angelfire.com/ma/dnsassoc/

Yes, do NOT buy one of those kits. I hate to see bride's who buy those things. One of the many things that wedding industry makes you think you have to have. Get your marriage license and you can change everything with no problems. There is a form online for SS and then your DMV will have a certain form for you to fill out. Good luck!

ok Start will your DL then SSN then CCs then bill then other small thing as they come in. Because to change anyother legal document you will need your DL and SSN and marrige licens. SSN is a pain in the back side.

Here the DMV asked for my SS# ... it was easy to send in for the name change with SS for me, I just sent in the form with the marriage certificate (the original) and they sent it back with the new card in like a week. Then I took it all down to the DMV and it wasn't a problem there either (aside from the line  ;))

It is......And from my experience, it was easier to change SS with an already changed DL, than to try and change it first. It may have just been the office here, but they wanted to SEE a picture ID with the new name. They were hasseling (sp?) me so much I said I would be back, went and changed my DL, came back and voila! Changed with NO PROBLEM! I have heard of people changing the SS card first with no problem. I guess start with whichever is simpler for you.

Well I have been married before and in the industry form a while now so I know about how ppl will try to scam brides into thinking they need something they don't. In this case, you can find all the forms you need online or locally for free.
But don't feel bad, you didn't know and you were trying to help, no one can fault you for that :D Now you know and can pass along the info to another bride :)
