View Full Version : Grandmother's Gown
This is my first time on this forum, so if I am on the wrong one please let me know. My daughter & son are getting married within 3 months of each other & I have to purchase a gown for my mother-in-law. The problem is, she has a terrible hunch & is so bent over it is difficult for her to wear dresses. Any suggestions as to what she can wear & where she can buy it. My daughter's wedding is a very formal one, my son's is not. Thank you.

I don't know where to suggest that you look but I was thinking it might be easier for her to have a dress that buttoned up, rather than have her try to slip something over her head.
Perhaps you could have something made for her, in a style that would be comfortable for her to wear but made from a fabric that is a bit "dressy".
Whatever you/she may choose, I think comfort and mobility are the key. Even the plainest outfit could be "dressed up" with lovely jewelry, a pretty purse or a beautiful shaw. Who is getting married first? The dress could be a bit longer for the formal wedding and shortened for the less formal event?

I work in a nursing home and we have several residents that are hunched over, when they want to dress up, we will dress them in a nice skirt and blouse.

I would also suggest a nice skirt and blouse. You could get a nice, basic skirt with two different tops so that one is more formal and one is less formal.

I agree, a skirt and blouse or an evening suit. It would be appropriate for both weddings and you can always jazz up the accessories for the more formal one.

You could always go the super dressy pant route as well (ones that actually look like a skirt). That is what my mother is wearing as she wears a leg brace. And then get a nice top. Although your daughter's wedding is very formal, I'm sure she will understand if her grandmother isn't very formally dressed (or at least I would).
My daughter doen't care, as long as she doesn't wear her usual sweater & stretchy pants. I think I will go with the with the dressy pants & nice shirt. With all the holiday outfits in the stores now, I can get her a nice silky red or gold shirt, 1 for each wedding, to go with the pants. Thank you all for your help!

Glad to be of help. My mom found a nice dressy pair of pants like I was talking about at Sears. Now we are in Canada but I'm sure the Sears in the US would have something similar. Good luck and show us pictures when you decide on an outfit - we love pictures!
