View Full Version : Vendors Are Welcome, Spam/Promos Are Not!

I have been noticing a lot of vendors have been spamming the Vendor Chat forums. DO NOT SPAM OR PUT YOUR ADVERTISING IN THIS FORUM!
This forum is to talk shop, or to answer questions brides may have. If you want to post something about your company then put it down in the 'Announcements and Opportunities' forums.
If you can not manage to follow the rules on this, don’t be shocked if you login one day and find that you can’t access the forums or Onewed.com as you will be banned no matter what your excuse is for spamming the forums here!

Levi-
Just a question of curiosity-
I haven't posted any advertisements, but I am wondering why a vendor wouldn't be able to mention their business in a forum that is made up for vendors (within certain reason). I'm sure no one wants something repeatedly stuffed in their face, but wouldn't you agree that word of mouth exposure is a great thing for a vendor?
No worries- not trying to rock the boat, but I just want to make sure I don't get in trouble if I happen to mention my site or something.

As with anything no one likes to see forums full of spam (advertising) by users when it was built for something else. Simply put the forums are to help people plan their wedding or work in the industry. No one likes to find some person selling a produce on a forum when you come looking for answers to your wedding related questions.
Word of mouth exposure is when someone else talks about their experience with a company, so it does not apply to the ramifications of this thread, as what you are suggesting would be a company posting their own advertising or review, which would then make it spam.
Depending how someone take part in the forums will predicts how their reputation will be seen in the community.
Beyond that there are no exceptions to the rules, as we have provided a section for vendors to post their services.

Levi-
I understand about spamming, as well as no exceptions (wasn't asking for them of course). Just asking a question as to not get "in trouble" for a possible reference to a business.

Here is my two cents about vendors participating in forums/message boards such as this ...
Join in and be a part of the community and people will get to know you and then will want to do business with you. Put your website link and a short description in your signature, people will see it with every post you make.
If you (vendors in general) want to spam/advertise something, post in the Announcements and Opportunities (http://forums.onewed.com/forumdisplay.php?f=9) section every now and then too. But don't over do it there either, then you start to look like you are just here to spam.

Thank you for your imput, however, once again, this was just a question. I have not, nor do I plan to, spam or advertise other than what is already listed in onewed's specified area to do so (business listings, not forum), unless someone asks me otherwise. Just a question, not something to get worked up about.

I don't think anyone is getting "worked up"
If you are a contributing part of the community and come across a post that relates to what you do, you are more than welcome to mention that you might be able to offer what the bride needs.
For example, lets say you sell custom invitations and you see a thread about a bride looking for unique invitation ideas. You could mention that you sell custom invites and to check out your website for some ideas. I don't see that as being a problem.
I think the issue is that we have so many that just come here and spam wherever they can and don't bother to participate in the community. That is what this board is, a support community, not an advertising outlet.
I am wondering why a vendor wouldn't be able to mention their business in a forum that is made up for vendors (within certain reason).Levi, please correct me if I'm wrong but, the 'Vendor Chat' forum is for vendors to chat with each other and chat with brides ... Vendors can introduce themselves, share thoughts and ideas and get a brides perspective on things. Simply "mentioning" your business is fine as long as it is not excessive.
Sorry if we seemed to be "worked up" over this, we just like the way our board runs and want to keep it that way.
So if you are not planing to be a spammer and will be a part of the community then you will be just fine :) Welcome :D

Is it all right to share marketing tips and tricks with fellow vendors in this forum as well? I really do enjoy the exchange of ideas :)

Sure! You just have to be aware that brides can see this forum too ;)
There is a private "Vendors Only" forum too, I think you have to be a vendor on the main site to be in that, but I am not 100% sure on that.

Good thing you didn't .... there are quite a few of us out there. For us, doing business locally, in Quebec .... we have found out that it's also a hard word for French Canadians to pronounce (& remember). Too late for us to turn back now though. LOL
*sorry, off topic*

Not to worry. I don't have anything to say or secret tricks that I wouldn't want a bride to see or be aware of :) Nothing devious .... just learning stuff :)

Vendors can not post a new member post in the Vendors Chat. This is what started this thread so long ago. Way to many vendors just came in and posted hello my name is, and I do, my prices are great, bla, bla… ;p
If a vendor or anyone else wants to introduce themselves they can do it in the new members area and make note that they own such business, but beyond that I start deleting people that make it a point to sell their business on a introduction.
As cconcepts noted, we have plenty of places and prices that fit anyone’s budget for getting more business on Onewed, other then making a sales pitch on the forums.

I totally agree with Brandi. I am an alteration specialist. All of my business is hands-on, and totally local, but I love being able to advise brides as to the possibility, advisability, and general pricing in my area of expertise.
I also want to learn their concerns about fitting and re-design of both their gowns and their maids, mothers, FG, etc.
I truly appreciate being able to post on ONEWED. There are forums where I may not post, even without SPAM, simply because I am a professional. It is what I love, and what I do.
I will be a (second time) bride next year. I wonder how they will treat me now:rassberry: !

Thank you ladies, so much.
You would not think to look at me, (at 49 I still wear jeans and T or loose shirts) that I have the talent and ability to do what I do, but it is all personal preference. My first question after the initial alterations is "How does it feel?"
If it is not comfortable, you will not want to wear it, so how it looks is secondary IMO.
Every bride is and deserves to be beautiful. I just try to do my part to make this so.

I moved your thread ... Don't worry, we all make mistakes every now and then, just keep an eye on where you put things ;)
You also want to keep an eye on how often you post similar things in the A &O section. Too often is seen as spam as well ;)

Vendors FYI: If you sign up with a user name that is your business web address or an email; it will be changed.
This is just another forum of spam, so don't do it.
If all you want is to promote your business there are better ways to do it and this is not the place.
ETA - FYI; unsolicited private messages and/or emails sent to our members is also spam.
Edit2: Putting your website address in your user title is a no-no too.
