Other than the common milk, butter, eggs and milk; what sort of things are commonly on your grocery lists?

Yogurt, baby spinach, salmon, white fish (tilapia, cod, etc), fresh fruits (usually pears, apples, plums, bananas), sweet potatoes, granola bars, frozen veggies (green beans, broccoli), orange juice, green tea, chicken, ground turkey, garlic cloves, vidalia onions, lemons, portabellas (small and sliced), whole wheat bread, kashi cereal and oatmeal, light cream and splenda for coffee, wheat pasta, olive oil, turkey and cheese from the deli, fresh herbs (usually thyme, rosemary and basil)...etc.....
My grocery bills are outrageous. But I refuse to eat fast food or anything processed, etc.

Cheese. Always cheese. And tortillas. I cannot live without cheese or tortillas. But mostly cheese. I have a cheese problem.

You sound like me. I try my best to always cook stuff...I think my current roommate thinks I'm crazy because she eats out all the time and will hardly touch anything that I cook from scratch...but she is also fairly overweight. and doesn't know how to cook.

Yep. I always make my meals at home. I can never understand how people can eat out all the time. This is part of the reason why America has the most critical obesity problem in the world.....

Lots of vegetables, fresh and frozen - that's sort of the centerpiece of everything I eat. It's always vegetables and how to make them differently this time. Specifically, I have to always have tomatoes and green onions. They go in EVERYTHING.
Always buys - cheese for FH (he eats it like it's going out of style), that I can't believe it's not butter spray (always have to have in the house), a crazy amount of coke zero, milk for FH, microwave popcorn for me, we both eat a lot of Lean Cuisine type food since we're always on the go but want to keep a cap on the calories, chips or nuts or some sort of treat for FH, and some sort of frozen breakfast foods (again, always on the go) - I am addicted to these Jimmy Dean Lite ones that have egg whites and turkey sausage. Delicious. FH, on the other hand, wants me to keep him stocked with Toaster Strudel.
Save for the lean cuisines, we don't really eat the same foods - very few ingredients overlap...!

There are a few things that we regularly get at the store - soy milk, hemp milk, earth balance spread, tofu, bulk nuts, mushrooms, bulk grains, nut butter, ketchup (others have a cheese problem - I have a ketchup problem! LOL), beans, garlic, onions, bananas, olive oil, apples, hemp nuts, and we get most of our fresh veggies from whatever happens to be at the farmer's market.

Yogurt, granola bars, cereal and grapes. I'm still living alone and I don't cook much except when FH is here on weekends. One more reason I'm looking forward to being married--I can buy something, cook it, and know none of it will get thrown away because it didn't get eaten in time :)

I have a standardized grocery list that I created in Excel. It's the organizer in me. The list is broken into categories such as produce, frozen foods, breakfast items, meat, hygiene, dairy, etc. Every two weeks, I print the list (it's three columns top to bottom of the page) and check off the items that we need or list the quantity for certain items. I also list the sales price and whether it's on sale at Kroger or Meijer. For example, next to milk, I'll write 4/$5 K and the quantity on the line next to milk.

We keep a list on the fridge, so I copy the items from that list to my standardized list and off I go to save $$$!!!

DH tells me that I buy a variety of products that waaaaayyyyy surpasses what he used to buy. I guess that's why I need a spreadsheet! :o I'm not brand-specific with most items, but I do get specific with what I need to buy. Cheese = cream, slices, bar, shredded - each is listed separately on my spreadsheet.

Cottage cheese, cereal and Diet Rite typically are always on our list. I like two kinds of Kashi cereal, but Fiance doesn't typically do breakfast at all, so it's just me.

He likes to have a lot of meat in the freezer at all times, so we inevitably pick up hamburger, chicken and pork chops. Yesterday, I asked him to bring home diet rite and toilet paper -- which he did, but he also brought home a pound of beef, some cookies, a can of sloppy joe mix, and a big piece of salmon!

*sigh* I love him but sometimes I have to wonder where his brain is. the sloppy joe stuff I can understand -- I'm on a tight deadline for a huge project and didn't get time to make dinner yesterday, so he filled in, but the rest? Beyond me!

Oh, you guys reminded me of something. Cereal is always on the list too. It's gotten so expensive that we stopped buying it too often, but we found some puffed kamut (wow, that's the only ingredient!) at Randall's that is cheap, healthy, and tasty so we've been getting cereal again.

Meat if its on sale, frozen dinners for when i work late (most of the time.. like skillet stuff), and frozen veggies. I don't buy fresh because its expensive and i usually don't have the time to do anything with it before it goes bad. The joys of working in the middle of the whole day. lol

I usually don't have a list, though. I work at the darn place.. Don't want to go more than i have to. They already get most of their paycheck back.

Tea Bags!!! :winktongue:

Then it's Cat Food, Cat Biscuits, Cheese, Ham, Cereal, Pot Noodles (I eat these at Stupid O'clock)

Then it's the mundane things like Toilet Rolls, Kitchen Roll, Tin Foil, Washing up Liquid, Washing Powder and Cat Litter.

Definitely lunch meat, natural Peanut Butter and Jelly. I make 3 sandwiches for DH every single day. One turkey, roast beef and PB&J.

Also juice and as much as fruit as possible. Apples, carrots and raisins. Also snack stuff like triscuts and wheat thins. We like the reduced fat ones better than regular.

Our staples are, fruit, gatorade, coke, pasta, pasta sauce, cheese, and meat.

Though I hate grocery shopping because usually I have to go to 2 different stores that are across town from one another. I buy our meat at Jewel, and everything else at Super Walmart.

On a weekly basis, it's fresh seasonal fruits and veggies, frozen peas, frozen berries, plain yogurt, canned beans (we get the unsalted organic kind), whole-wheat pasta, whole-wheat gnocchi, whole-wheat bagles, and canned crushed tomatoes. On a monthly basis, we're picking up imported cheeses, extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, Italian cold-cuts (especially breasola, that stuff is AMAZING), minced garlic, herbs to supplement the ones we're growing on the balcony, maybe some free-range meats.

Do you at least get an employee discount for working there? :purplex:

Aside from the regular stuff ... we always buy 10% cream for our coffee. We often buy fresh bagels (Montreal bagels are an entity onto themselves. The real "Montreal" bagel cannot be bought in a regular grocery store), and our fav. brand of babaganoush (if we can find it). We also splurge on "real bread" from the bakery - rye, challah, farmer's bread and others.

Diced Tomatos are a big one on our list, we almost always get Pierogies. Canned veggies, especially green beans. Frozen veggies, Tiliapia, and lean ground beef or turkey and chicken are our typical meats. Sometimes we get sprite zero. ummm also we use wraps a lot. oh and low fat shredded cheese.

Uh, okay forgive me for this one.... does "kitchen roll" mean paper towels? Otherwise I have no idea what it is! :)

Yeah, we get a discount off of Kroger, kroger value, and private selection (all kroger brands) which i'm more than happy to buy. $100 just doesn't seem to go very far! :chimp:

In addition to pounds of cheese, we usually buy cereal, olives, whole wheat pasta, dippable veggies/veg dip, frozen veggies, frozen meat/fish, orange juice, coffee creamer, whatever fancy bread is on sale and old fashioned oatmeal. And of course beer, but that's usually not at the grocery store.

Do you ever get beer at Whole Foods? That case they have at the Sugar Land location is just a.m.a.z.i.n.g!

Yes! And we live in Sugar Land so we take advantage of it pretty frequently. Often, they'll have stuff that's run out at Spec's. My dad got the last case of St. Arnold Divine #7 there! It is sooooo coooold though. :snide:

I do have to say, though, Central Market spanks just about everyone. I've found some really amazing stuff there. I wish we had more locations!

there are just some items i cant be without in the house.
i go to a place called penn dutch and they usually have a bag of onions for 1.49$ - it usually contains 5-8 small onions which is great for OVER week for us in EVERY meal.. since we are just us this lasts us a while! (about two weeks) they also have potatoes for 2 big 5lb bags for 5$ or so. i usually buy those two and give one bag to my mom or brother. This lasts us for a while too. Im a strong believer in a starch a veggie and a meat in meals, even if i dont eat it all, i serve it when i cook. soooo potatos are usually ALWAYS on the list..
Some things that i abs. cant be without of in the house are minced garlic, oil (esp olive and veggie) and spinach. This is a great start for ANY meal (I put this over pasta sometimes or over rice etc. and
