We didn't have a formal engagement with a "real" propsal. But I cried when we finally decided to do it and set the date.

It wouldn't have been the shape I would have picked but I love it now.

He doesn't wear a ring, he tends to bend bands and since he does a lot of car stuff he is scared that it would get messed up.

No, not really once we decided to go to Vegas it was smooth sailing.

He had met mine but I had only talked to them on the phone. After we got engaged his father passed away and when we went to the funeral I met his mom and sisters.

We dated for half a year before getting engaged. We had absolutely no money to get married, so we will have been engaged a bit over 5 1/2 years when we get married.

It surprised me, but I didn't cry. I knew he had bought a ring ( I helped him pick it out) but it was on a payment plan that was like 6 months long, and he still had at least 4 more to go (we were so poor a less than $300 ring had to go on a payment plan). He paid it off early to surprise me on our half anniversary.

He just took me into my room, got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. It was cute.

Yes, I got the engagement ring I wanted. I didn't want something big and gaudy. I will be picking my wedding band. I want a semi eternity, with a prong setting, not a channel setting.

Well it's all OUR money, but I picked it out, and will be arranging everything. I'm getting him a meteorite band. He loves space stuff.

We're planning on $5000, all the estimates added up comes to a bit under $6000, so it looks like we'll be a bit over budget.

We haven't discussed this, but we wont have any money, so probably something local.

Well, not really. I wanted an antique style one and Chad said that they were just too expensive when he was shopping. He picked out a completely different kind and I love it even though it wasn't what I thought I had wanted.

I teared up a little bit, but only because of the nice things he said about me. We're usually so playful and sarcastic that for him to say sincere things took me a little off guard. I wasn't surprised - he told me he was going to propose to me when we were in Paris but I didn't know specifically the minute it would happen. Once we got on the boat for a dinner cruise on the Seine I sort of realized it would be somtime during that. Of course, true to form, once the seriousness was over we realized that "The Rose" by Bette Midler was being played while he had proposed and he looked at me and said "By the way, this is NOT our song..." and then normal "us" conversation resumed.

It was romantic. We were on a dinner cruise in Paris and had a beautiful meal and champagne and were all dressed up.

I never would have pictured this ring in a million years - I'd never seen anything like it - but it was very me. A green tahitian pearl with 3 tiny diamonds on each side, platinum band. It's clunky, and I typically wear oversized fun jewelry. The ring is basically just an upgrade to nice jewelry but still in my style...:)

We're going to pick them out together.

Not really, no. We're on the same page most of the time.

It was pretty romantic in my opinion. He told me he wanted to show me where he surfed. So we went to the beach and he started walking me out on the pier. We went to the small balcony on the second story of the pier where all you could see was ocean. It was incredibly beautiful.

I'm not getting my either of my rings until our wedding date and it's going to be a complete surprise. I'm not even giving him pointers of what kind of rings I like besides that I want it to be white gold and not yellow gold.

He met my family when we dated in the 8th grade. I'd never formally met his mother until after we were married.

8. How long of an engagement did you have/do you plan before the wedding date? We were engaged for 3 days. Call us crazy, but we've been best friends for 13 years and are both very spontaneous. We did the civil ceremony with the magistrate at the courthouse and we're having our "real" wedding 10 months past that date. We have about 7 months to plan it all.

We never even really set a budget. Both of our parents are helping out immensely, we haven't even got to pay for anything yet! But trust me, we're going to have to start soon. I'm guessing our wedding will be right around $10,000 to $12,000 for 200+ guests.

We're talking about Greece right now. Maybe Spain. We're going to take about a 2 week trip somewhere 4 months after the wedding to get some great quality time together away from everything and everyone else before he has to deploy next fall.

Yes and yes. We exchanged our Christmas presents with one another and went to a really nice dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. Then we went to see the "Zoolight Safari". On the way home we had to make "one quick stop" and he took me to the park on top of the mountain where we'd gone for our first date and he gave me my last Christmas present - a crystal heart ornament with my full name and "Will you marry me" engraved on it.

Yes, it was my mom's ring. I gave it to him a couple of months before he proposed.

We picked out both of our bands together. We actually bought them before we were officially engaged because they were on sale (and we knew we were going to get engaged!)

Uhm... this is going to sound awful, but I'll be honest. I really, really love the ring I have because it's GORGEOUS and he picked it out, but no, this isn't at all what I wanted. I wanted a .5 karat princess-cut diamond on a platinum band, not a round-cut, 1.32 karat padparadscha on a yellow gold band that doesn't match anything I own. But I still love it!

I was going to, but he vetoed all of the choices in my price range and insisted on having a gorgeous mokume gane ring that cost him thousands commissioned. It hurt my feelings at first, but he's so happy about it and it generates so many compliments that I quickly got over it.

Aside from some ring-angst, not really! We agreed on most things. He has good taste! Whenever he felt strongly about something, I made sure to incorporate it into our plans. The wedding was his day, too!

Little did I know that he'd felt the same kind of change in his thinking, so when I found a pretty ring at a sci-fi convention, I asked him to buy it for me, which he did . . . but then, he put it on THAT finger, and I said, 'Does this mean what I think it means?' and he said 'Yes, it does'. It was a HUGE moment in both our lives.

Neither . . . but it was a perfect moment for us.

Sort of. I found a pretty ring that was uniquely me, but then it broke and wasn't fixable. The engagement ring I really wanted, a sterling celtic knotwork band with a 1 carat opal in the middle, didn't (and for all I know still doesn't) come in my size, so I had to make do with an art-deco style 1/2 carat iolite solitare. It still rankles, every once in a while. Oh well.

Yes, indeed. Having been married before, I knew that meeting the family was incredibly important. I fit right into his family, and he in mine. It's kind of spooky, actually! But in a good way.

We'll have been engaged for just under (like, by two weeks) the 2 year mark. Our engagement was on July 7th, and we'll get married June 24th.

The original budget was $3000. When we realized that was non-doable, we rebudgeted for $5000, and we're going to come in at about $4500.

DisneyWorld in Florida, for a whole week!!! Can't wait!

It was sort of a surprise. He had been lying about having the ring for 2 months trying to throw me off, and it worked!

It was both (considering he is not very romantic at all). We were on vacation and he was walking with me down the beach one evening and he got to a place where there wasn't anyone and popped the question! I cried! lol

Yep... I picked it out and little did I know, he got it the next day! It was a good thing to because it was on sale for $800 off!

Yes... He wants titanium

No, we just had to make an agreement that I couldn't talk about it non-stop!

Yes, he have practically lived at each other's houses for 2 years!

YES! Definite surprise, I was even wondering if we would just be living together with no title for the rest of our lives.

In short - he surprsied me at a local gardens in a community area by sneaking in a proposal note into the brochure. :heart:

I've never thought about rings, really.
I got his great-grandmother's e-ring!! It's beautiful and special.

My FMIL has offered to buy both bands for us. :)

No, he told me that he will let me know if he likes a place or hates a place, and other than that its all my planning. (But, he's already thrown out a ton of ideas, I just don't let him know that he is "planning" when he does that.)

We are planning ahead - but we are very lucky to have parents who are in positions to be able to help.
