View Full Version : David's Bridal Question

I am wondering about David's Bridal prices. I have some saved to my "favorites" (online) to try on when I go visit the store ~ one dress says the price ranges from $699 to $749 and another dress says $399 to $449. Is this the actual price in the store, also? Do they normally have sales? What happened to the $99 dresses (as my mother pointed-out to me :notsure:)??

Just wondering if any of you have found they are less expensive in the store?? I am about 2 hours away from David's Bridal.

I do believe those are the prices they have in the store. I think the difference comes from the sizes - the women's sizes cost more.

I was under this strange impression that for a certain period of time, DB had ALL of their dresses, or at least all the older ones for $99. That may be what they want you to think so that you come to the store. In reality, there's a very small selection of dresses for $99... there may be more during their "99 dollar gown sale!". I haven't been there for one of those.

I was actually a bit disappointed with what I saw there... but this is because I already had another, fairly cheap dress in mind from somewhere else. So when I went to the store, I only liked a few dresses, and they all costed at between $40 and $400 more than the one I liked from elsewhere. But I know there are also brides (including ones from Onewed) that have loved their services and loved the dress that they got there.

You could just set up an appointment there and then look some other places and have a big dress shopping day as many people here have done. Even though I've been there twice, I'm even thinking of doing that, even if only to look at bridesmaid dresses.

I just checked the online prices with some of the ones I tried on there and they were the same. The store I went to only had a small section of $99 dresses. They were very nice at the store but they are constantly calling me (and everyone else they gave my number to) and emailing me which is a little annoying. I'm glad that I set up a seperate "wedding" email account. Overall though, it was a positive experience though I still haven't found a dress.

IMO, there are several other lines out there that have nicer dresses for comparable prices.

I was really against getting my dress from there but when the closest bridal shop to me didn't have anything, I decided to try DB (the next closest) before I drove like 45 mins away. My consultant was fantastic and I had a really great experience, and I ended up buying my dress. It was $500 or $600. I think the $99 thing is only a couple times a year during their special sale, but I'm not sure. They might have some year round. I didn't see any when I was there though.

Thanks for all the comments. Geez. I'm really hoping I can find an inexpensive used dress that I luv.....cuz even if I can afford it, I just can't see ending-up spending $1,000 on a dress, slip, bra, veil, sash, blah blah blah... I know that is cheap to some but that's a big chunk of my budget to me.

DB has some great deals on princessy-looking dresses, but there are very few $99 dresses there, and when I went, all of them were for size sub-zero or size XXXXXXXXXL, so an average-sized girl like me was out of luck. But I did end up getting $50 off my $600 dress there during the big November sale!

Also, try Alfred Angelo and Jessica McClintock. Some of their dresses are very cheap and cute!

Have you thought about getting a dress at a department store? Most of my friends got GORGEOUS wedding dresses from Nordstrom for only a couple hundred dollars! I know you want to do a princess kissed the frog theme, so maybe these dresses, which tend to look more like Hollywood Starlet than Princess Charming, won't suit your theme, but it's worth a shot!

Good luck!

I wasnt a fan of DB mainly because their dresses were WAYY too expensive for what they were. I found a designer dress online (alfred angelo style 1612) and went Search crazy! I found ebridalsuperstore.com that sold my 800 dollar dress for 430!!! MAJOR discount :D

Thanks for all the suggestions!

And you know Rosie, I really like an Alfred Angelo dress I found. Ordering sounds less expensive but the problem is actually trying-on the dress first. I don't know. I found one store about 2 hours away that carries Alfred Angelo so we'll see. I'm off to check-out EBridalSuperStore now...

I agree! I had gone a couple of times to try on dresses at DB. I did fall in love with some of their dresses until I went to Alfred Angelo and a local dress shop. I really liked a lot of the dresses at AA. When I went to my local dress shop, I realized that the dresses there were much nicer and only a little bit more. But, I would definitely check out Alfred Angelo.

They have dresses from $99.00-$800.00 it just depends on how fancy you want to go. My dress is from David's Bridal and was $350.00 but is pretty simple. Good luck!

I shopped at David's Bridal and didn't find anything I personally liked. I went to a different store and bought one off the rack for 270.00. I will have another 100.00 in alterations(40.00) and their drycleaning(60.00 which is cheap, most charge 100.00 for cleaning alone) of the dress and it will be perfect! I would suggest if you haven't found a dress yet, go NOW and find one off the rack. They are wanting to order their 2009 dresses and want to get rid of the old ones. A David's Bridal gal told me it is slow right now, but Dec. 26th on it is a MAD house! So take advantage of this time of year to get things done :) Ebay has some awesome dresses for under 200, but again, you can't try it on :( Go shop and find what you like and come back to ebay and see if you find something just like it........GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for all the tips ladies!! NOW would be a great time to shop but I'm not going to buy a dress until we are engaged. I am just a pre-engaged lurker/planner/hoper for now. I just want to do it quite inexpensively when we do it.... and frankly, I'm thinking about going to thrift stores all over the state until I find one for $100 or $200, pay to have it cleaned, buy a fancy bag for it, buy a big pink sash to go with it, and call it a day at $400 ~ much better than the grand I'm looking at anywhere else. We'll see. We'll see.

You know, if you're the right size and open to different styles or maybe altering a dress to remove puff sleeves or similar details you don't like, you can find a gorgeous wedding dress at Goodwill/other thrift stores for much, much less than $100-$200! One of my friends found a really pretty tulle dress there for $30! It needed some minor alterations to fit her, since it was a little too long and some of the beads had fallen off, but for a $30 base price, how can you resist?

Interesting... I've had people tell me to look in thrift stores, but I really didn't believe they actually had any there. I may have to go check some out! The cheapest dress I've found that I like is $460, which is better than $1000, but $100 or less is better yet.

I think thrift stores range just like Macy's versus Wal-Mart prices... I went to some local thrift stores with a friend of mine about 2 years ago... and the prices were RIDICULOUS!! HUNDREDS of dollars for old dresses that were half-way out of style. At the same time, there is one store here in town that occasionally will have a dress for $25 to $50 ~ and lately, they've been beautiful - just size 2s. (which I am not)

Anyway, when/if my time comes, I plan to look around at thrift stores, first.

My dress was from DB in Franklin, TN and i loved it. It was an Oleg Cassini and cost $1100 but I got it on sale for $900. And I loved their service. Everyone was great.

For davids bridal i hate their service for the most part but i went in on the 1st day of their last $99 sale and found a gorgeous dress that was orig $900 it just depends on how much time and patience you have, i was still about 10 months out from my wedding and figured it was worth a shot. Also be open minded, try on things even if at first glance you dont think its what you want, you may be surprised.
ANd you wont see most of the $99 dresses on line bc they have been discontinued so that complicates it a little, it could actually be worth visiting a couple davids bridals if the one you are going to has several in the area
