I was just watching that show "Unwrapped" and it was about southern candies; it made me wonder if there was any special and/or favorite candies that are sort of unique to your area. Maybe something that you grew up with.

Do share!

Of course I remember Pop Rocks as a kid, but they are available just about everywhere now.

My great grandparents use to always have good sweets at their place; one of the things I remember was the pecan roll.

Then there was this little mom and pop store we use to walk to as kids, they had all the nickel and dime candies ... gum, different flavor candy sticks, etc, we use to rack up.

Anyone have a Cracker Barrel restaurant where they live? This may be a southern thing, though I am not sure. They have a little country store there too and they have all kinds of old candy.

I think Cracker Barrels are in a lot of states, I know Michigan has a few. I love the candy sticks, if you know what I'm talking about.

My boyfriend's grandma lives in Germany and every now and then she sends us a package of goodies and we ALWAYS put in special requests for Duplos (think kit kat but WAY better) She seriously sends about 10 boxes and there are 10 Duplos in each box. It keeps us happy for awhile :D

I wonder if we could make an exchange out of this candy thing

I think that would be cool; I wonder if it would be hard to ship candy for out international members. I guess we will see how much interest there is here in this thread; maybe we could do something like that after the holidays :frogg:

Well as a little kid in Germany I LOVED Kinder Schokolade (http://www.kinderschokolade.de/ks_produkt_02.htm). It's this milk chocolate with a milk layer (not sure that it's actually white chocolate) and comes in all kinds of shapes and varieties. The best are the Überraschungseier ("surprise eggs") which were hollow chocolate eggs with a toy inside:

We have those in Canada. We've had them my whole life. I didn't realize you couldn't get them in the States.

For Canadian candy I love Smarties and Aeros, especially mint Aeros. Mmmm.... I also love Crunchies, Buenos, Bounty Bars, Eat-Mores, Coffee Crisp, and I'm sure there's more. I don't think they have any of those in the States.

Zotz...it's hard to find them around here now but when I was a kid I loved them. They're hard candies that when fizz when you get to the center. I also like cactus candy (not sure if they have that outside of az) it's candy made with prickly pear cactus fruit

Sometimes you find them imported. They had some at this cute patisserie in Portland that I loved. But I lived in Germany before I lived in the U.S. so to me they're all German (even though they're actually made by and Italian company :snide:).

Growing up in Chicago . . . there's a department store there called Marshall Field's (they're Macy's now . . .Macy's bought them out, long story) and the MF in downtown Chicago made these chocolate mint candies called Frango Mints.

OMG they were good. They were pure chocolate and the inside was dark chocolate with the mint flavor and the outside was milk chocolate. You could by Frango mints at any Marshall Fields.

Over here, Marshall Fields bought the Dayton-Hudson Corporation, which owned a chain of stores called, funnily enough, Dayton's (which was a mainstay of the Twin Cities for 50 years) then Dayton-Hudson-Marshalls was bought by Target Corp (who agreed to retain the Marshall's name) and NOW Macy's owns the stores! And they changed all of the Field's to Macy's.

But you can still get Frango Mints in the candy section of the stores :) I don't know if you can in all the Macy's, but here you definitely can!

I'd be willing to buy and ship some Frangos if I could get somebody from Oz to ship me some TimTams. Always wanted to try some and we can't get them here.

I loved this stuff too. I just got back from visiting in july and I brought back a ton of it. They tried to sell it in the US but apparently US children are accident prone and a bunch of kid choked on the toys/plastic pill container. So they pulled out of US market. Germandeli.com sells other kinder product though. This is my downfall for sure.

You can get those in the UK all year round. And Kinder bars too.

My Cat likes to play with the little Yellow inner eggs. He knocks them around the house until they end up under the sofa.

Well as there are lots I can think of that I loved as a child the one I can only find when back home in Maine is a Mallo Cup.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c167/rainbowtreat/blaircandy_2025_31723625.jpg

For the longest time I could not find them here where I live in NH. Now there is one store in the next town over that has them. I told the lady I was only ever able to find these back home. She said she had a customer ask for them so she ordered them. She had to order them from Maine. I hope she keeps them. I hate having to go home to see my mom just to get my favorite candy bar lol.
