I guess it's time I start one of these threads, eh?

Well, it's been just over two weeks since we became 'official,' and truth be told, not too much has changed. Since we've lived together for the last three and a half years, I didn't really expect much would (which is fine; things were great the way they were -- otherwise why would I have married him?)....

I have noticed he's become sweeter and nicer, however... as if it were even possible! He just dotes on me a little more, is even more affectionate, and just .. well... SWEETER. It's wonderful. It's almost like we're both going out of our way even more to make sure the other is comfortable, content, happy... It's a nice feeling.

And I'm all official in terms of legal -- the day after we got back from our honeymoon, I went and got my Social Security Card and Driver's License changed (he was so excited to see his last name on my license), and changed my name on our joint bank account.

We've also finally started actually USING the joint account, for all household expenses, going out together, etc... (we've both maintained individual accounts for little things here and there, etc...). It's a learning experience; it's been years since I've had to be accountable to anyone else about money, and he's never mixed finances with anyone, so we're both still adjusting, but so far, so good.

I've gotten most of the announcements stuffed, addressed, and mailed, and I'm working on thank-you notes now *sigh*... this could take a while!

More than anything, we're enjoying NOT fretting about what we have to get done for the wedding. We can come home in the evening and RELAX actually, which we haven't done in months.

Just enjoying the honeymoon phase... :grinhappy:

Glad you're enjoying the honeymoon phase!

I think the joint checking thing is something I'm going to put off for quite a while after the wedding day. I think that will be the biggest step for me. Isn't that weird? Of all things, THAT is the hang up? I always wonder how that works - I mean, if one person makes way more than the other, doesn't that get weird? Just my ramblings.
Looking forward to the continuation of your "next chapter"!

:D thank you!!

It's an adjustment, yes, but it's not so bad.

I actually make more than he does, and in truth, I think this has simplified things. We've decided to each have an "allowance" (set amount per pay check; we each get paid twice per month, on alternating weeks) which we put in our individual accounts, and then the rest goes into the household/joint account. There's no more "my money, your money," it's just OUR money, which has eliminated any thought over who makes what.

We have been doing the same thing for years and its been working out for us. Glad to hear things are getting back to normal life. It's so nice to relax and not worry about planning a wedding :D

Congrats on changing your name of stuff! That makes it seem more real. Hehe. We had seperate checking accounts until we got married. And then we shared our money, we kinda did before but it was still "my money, his money". I agree that its easier that way.
