Okay so I spoke to my wedding photographer..he gave me the written release and he told me that my images are 4x6 or 5x7 format on the dvd he gave me and if I want to blow them up I have to use Canon Raw Conversion? I'm so lost :bbcry:

I believe you can use photoshop, but not sure exactly.

I found this free raw converter online - RAW shooter essentials (http://www.brothersoft.com/rawshooter-essentials-43454.html)

Good luck :grinhappy:

Frankly that is kind of a jerkwad move that some photographers make. They tell you you'll get printable files, then send you the RAWs knowing full well that you will not be able to figure out what the heck to do with them. Totally gets on my nerves. Just send a JPG, people!

For the record, I do not know how to deal with RAW myself. I just have the full Adobe Creative Suite and the right program just magically pops up. Thank goodness for my husband who actually knows what he's doing once the photo leaves the camera. :winktongue:

Personally, I'd ask him to send me a file that I can use without having to get specialized software. It's a heck of a lot easier for him to create JPGs than you. Also, check your contract/agreement/whatever to see if it was specified how you'd receive the files.

Before you do anything, double check to make sure the photographer is telling the truth. Do the files he gave you end in ".jpg?" If so then you are fine. You can use any number of free photo editors such as Picasa to view, tweak, play with, or upload to a web album.

If he did, in fact, give you true Canon RAW files, they will have a file extension like ".crw" or ".cr2." In that case you will have to find a program that converts those files to the jpg format.

Also, it sounds like he gave you files suitable for printing at 4x6 and 5x7 sizes. If he gave you small sized files, you probably don't want to "blow them up" or enlarge them because if you do they will start to get fuzzy because the resolution is not detailed enough for large prints. I hope that helps!

Sounds like something that all brides need to know about before signing the contract!

Find someone with a Mac and have them convert the files.

iPhoto automatically recognizes RAW.

I have done this for a number of friends, its usually the easiest route.

For many reasons this is a terrible business practice this photographer is employing.

First, Why he would ever give you RAW files is beyond me. They are not color corrected & not white balanced. If anyone looks at these they could make their business look terrible.

Second, They knew that you would have issues processing the files and would have to go back to them. Very underhanded.

Her is a suggestion for you. Not knowing if you are on a Mac or PC your best option is Adobe Lightroom Trial. This will work for 30 days. It will import the RAW files and then export as JPG which you can use to print. Here is the catch though..... those RAW files are not color corrected. You will need to do that if you want them to look right. Lightroom offers a one click solution that should work for your needs.

Great point!

While is is bizzare to give a client files in RAW format (which by definition are unedited images), it is certainly worth asking your photographer what kind of files you will receive if you purchase digital rights.

High-resolution JPEG images is what you want.

I would never give my clients RAW files and expect them to manage it. You'd need at least photoshop to open it. BTW Lightroom doesn't open certain files unless you update it.

I would ask your vendor for high res jpg files as Simple suggested.

Well if you were given that size and in jpegs, you can always try software like Photozoom 2.0 or Genuine Fractals to allow you to blow them up.

If you have photoshop and the files are .cr2's they will be automatically recognized. Good luck with this and shame on the photographer.

Picasa, free software from Google, supports nearly all raw formats. It's extremely user friendly. Nothing special to know, it will just allow you to view and/or print the photos, as well as make simple edits.

My photographer suggested me to gave me pics in raw format as I will have more advantages having them in this format. Is this true and how I can I watch them on PC? I don't have any graphic editors installed...

you system specs are too low for anything good. maybe a CLI based OS and programme could solve this. it would have to be able to run the camera drivers and store files at leats in the pics.otherwise just today i read about iSpy programme or search it on online.
