So on the advice of some very knowledgable ladies, I have decided to go ahead and start a journal.
My writings seem to be very loooong and involved, so I will just post the links to how we met:
http://forums.onewed.com/showthread.php?t=18632 (http://forums.onewed.com/showthread.php?t=18632)
and how he proposed:

We still have not settled on a date as of yet, but it looks to be sometime in 2010. Neither one of us is in a huge hurry, but we have determined that any longer than that would be too long.
When we first started talking about marraige, I was all for eloping. Just not a girl who wants to be the center of attention and all that. Then I realized that I always keep myself in the background and never celebrate anything; birthdays, anniversaries, you name it. This is one event that I don't want to look back on and regret because I am uncomfortable, so here we are planning a (hopefully) small wedding.
After looking at pics of other weddings, I still wasn't really excited about planning my own. I'm very laid back, and while I absolutley love what others do for their weddings, I'm not one who wants to do a traditional wedding. So my BFF and I were talking about it one night, and she mentions that none of the things I was saying sounded like me. And boy was she right. Then she said something that totally made sense for who FH and I are: Why don't you do a 1940's style wedding? After bouncing around ideas, we (BFF) and I tweaked things a bit, and here we are with most of the planning already taken care of.
Our theme: Past, Present and Future with many elements based around WWII. FH has a passion for all things WWII related. I also decided I wanted to incorporate my passion, which is family history. The best way for me to do that? Old family photos, mostly military pics and wedding pics, all black and white.

This is the dress that I have my eye on, but I don't know that I fully trust the website, so my mom and I will try to make something very similar. Sorry it is so big. The only thing different I would do is to do the lace in sage green. http://www.vponsale.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=128&products_id=90

Theme: Past, Present and Future
Colors: Sage green, black, silver and ??????? (need an accent color)
Dress: Inspired by Uptown Girl's dress (thanks)
Suit: WWII Uniform
Attendants: My sis and his bro
Bouquet: Don't really want to mess with one of these for long, SO I have decided to only have the amount of flowers in my bouquet to remember those who have passed on. There will be: FH mom and dad, my brother and grandmother, and FH grandparents. The flowers will be placed ineither a vase or an empty chair for them at the beginning of the ceremony and no more worry about flowers.
Location: To be determined. I am having a hard time choosing one of two: Wartime Airplane Museum (airlplane hanger) so not fancy at all, or a replica of the first mercantile in the town I grew up in. The bottom level is the mercantile, and the top level was used for dances and parties in the late 1800's.
Cake: My sister will make
Photographer: One of my BFF's
Centerpieces: TBD (finalizing the idea)
Meal: We are leaning heavily towards a pasta bar (kinda goes with WWII)
Candy Bar: Candy from the 1940's
First Dance: My nieces and partners and FH and I will do a swing dance
Programs: If I can figure out how to do it, it will be set up as an old newspaper from WWII with the headline as this; JAN & RICKY SURRENDER! instead of JAPAN SURRENDERS!
Ration Stamps: Will be used for either candy bar or bar bar.
Most everything is planned.
I need to choose another color, and come up with an invitation idea.

It has been hard having all these ideas and my craft buddy over 18 hours a way, BUT, she is flying in for a weekend of crafts and shopping.
What an awesome friend she is. I have 3 ideas on centerpeices, and after she gets here and we get them done I will post them on here.

So not much in planning. I have been busy with my nieces wedding, who is getting married on March 13th of this year. I did her engagement photos, flowers and will be helping with the decor.
I have been having a few things that I just cannot seem to make a decision on.
First: The venue.
When we started all of this, we were planning on having the reception at a wartime airplane museum, which goes really well with the 1940's WWII theme. It is in a airport hanger, so it wouldn't be really fancy, but we would be seated next to a B-17 bomber, which FH loves.
Then when we went to my hometown to visit, FH and I went on a tour of an old mercantile that has been fully redone. It is an exact replica of the mercantile that burned down in the early 1900's. It has beautiful hand cut wood floors, the walls are my exact color of sage green, and it would cut out a lot of the guest list as it would be a destination wedding. But, there goes the WWII thing. I could still do the 1940's style, but most of the theme would be out the window.
AIRPLANE MUSEUM
PROS
Only a 15 minute drive from us
WWII planes (theme)
Own food
Own drinks
Unique
FH would love love love this
CONS
Would have to change date (not open during September)
people don't call or email back very often
Have to do all set up and take down
More guests than I would like
Who am I kidding, it's an airplane hanger.
SNOWFLAKE MERCANTILE
PROS
A lot of family history for my side of the family
beautiful beautiful beautiful
they do all set up
colors and style of building would match my theme
less people
My grandpa could come
CONS
No elevators, stair only, would be hard for my older family members
3 1/2 hours away
have to bring in own food, and no caterers in that area
I'm sure no alcohol is allowed (not real worried about that)
Have to book hotel rooms, extra expense
Don't know what I would do with my puppies.......
The first one would be incredibly fun, and I have so many ideas on it, but the second one would be more romantic and nostalgic.
I will have to see if I can come up with pictures of both.

I am so in love with this building. Not a great pic, but the wall paper is kind of off white, with sage green trim.

This is the outside of the building, and those stairs are very long, I think my grandparents would have a heck of a time climbing them. My mom's dad with be 88 this year.

This is the closest I could come up with of the museum decorated at all.

You cann see the planes in the back ground.

This is the plane that FH wants to leave the wedding in.

Either venue looks very nice. Seriously. Two excellent ideas. Choose the one that keeps "nagging" you so you don't have any regrets... IMHO.

That's the problem. Both constantly nag at me. I want both of them........
Then on to colors. I wanted to do sage green, black and silver. BUT, I am having trouble with flowers. So I am thinking of adding another color in there, but no sure of what colors.
Purple
Champagne

So, add another venue to the list. (sigh)
FH called me at 6 am this morning to tell me about an old victorian house that is owned by the city, and to hurry and write it down. It is an awesome place.
So Yay! Another one to choose from. I kinda liked it when he wasn't paying attention to this kind of stuff.

As far as this wedding goes, I just can't seem to get excited like I was a few months ago.
I never had a "dream wedding" thought up in my head. I know what I don't want, but I am having a hard time pinpointing what I do want.
I want a very casual atmosphere, celebrating our union and celebrating our families. Not too many wedding traditions thrown in, although I do want to focus on our families. Wierd I know.
I want a party atmosphere, with out everyone having to "party hard" to get it. I want it to be a place where people are basically hanging out, not sitting at tables with the only people around them the people they came with. I want to find fun things for everyone to do and I am just absolutely stuck.
At the same time, I do want more than just a back yard barbecue.

Jannalynn -
I just stumbled across your journal and I LOVE all your ideas. I think you've got such a romantic theme. I feel all warm and fuzzy just thinking about it. It reminds me of old episodes of Designing Women (yeah, I'm a dork but I loved that show) - one of the characters totally overromanticized WWII and had these vivid dreams where all the characters were back in those days and they played all those old songs about women waiting for the man to return and keeping the home fires burning... And those were some of my favorite episodes. Yep, I'm officially a dork.

So this is a NO GO! I emailed the sealer and she wants a measly $600.00 for this cake topper.
(choke choke)
However, I have found others online that will work just as well.
Have to see if I can find them.

I have been having ALOT of second thoughts about this wedding. Not marrying FH, but spending gobs of money on one day. I don't come from a traditional family that does a lot of weddings and have no desire to impress anyone.
What I want is this: My close family and friends standing up with us and welcoming each of us into the other's family, and celebrating our commitment to each other.
I don't necessarily want to spend thousands of dollars to do this. I don't want my family and friends to sit at a forced dinner, and I don't want to do all of the traditional boquet toss, garter toss, cake cutting and first dance stuff.
I do however think it would be kiss a$$ to have a WWII themed wedding, and I do think a destination wedding with my closest family and friends would be awesome too. I also think a small cozy wedding in the forest would be pretty cool, with bonfires and camp fire cooking and the whole bit.
So needless to say, I don't know what I want. I do know what I don't want though.
We have picked out a date though. I want to get married on my grandparents anniversary, which is September 3, 1943. However, in a now famous family poem that my grandma wrote to my grandpa on their 55th wedding anniversary, when they told their parents they were going to elope, my great grandmother asked them not to get married on a Friday because it was bad luck, so that takes this year out of the equation. So it will be September 3, 2010.

Everything looks great! I think your theme is wonderful. We thought about having our reception in an airplane museum but it was too expensive!
