Hi Nicole! I'm getting married 2/17/2007. So far, we've reserved the church, hall and officiant, researched vendor prices, bought our rings, I've ordered my dress, veil and headpice and we've put together a skeleton guest list and I've bought some decorative items on sale.
We're going to get into the full swing of planning shortly. The ladies here have wonderful ideas and are very supportive and always offer excellent advice!

Welcome Nicole! I'm getting married on May 12, 2007 (exactly one year from today - how cool!). Anyways, so far I've booked the church, photographer, caterer, and florist, picked out the wedding and groom's cake and asked my attendants to be in the wedding. I've also picked out the invitations (I think) and we're going to order them next month if possible. I've found some bridesmaid dresses I like, but we're waiting to order those too. Other than that, I've just picked up some small stuff (rice, cake topper, etc.).

Oh yes you are doing great! My advice for you at this point is to do some serious shopping around. Look for sales. You have enough time so you'll be able to get things on sale and find super deals. I know you will have a great and beautiful wedding! Again welcome to the board and jump into posting!

I am just starting to look at invitations myself. It's driving me crazy because I am so particular about them. The invitations I've looked at you have to pay for them when you order them. It is usually suggested to buy invitations 4-6 months before the wedding. I am a little early on this myself, but I am getting close to the 6th month mark so I think I am still okay. Besides I am not going to order them for at least a few more weeks anyway.
About the dress. Under my dress, which is a halter top, I am wearing a strapless bra. I don't know what they're called exactly, but it is starpless and it comes down to my waist. I am also wearing a petticoat as well. I bought these at the same place (David's Bridal) that I got my gown at.

That is very elegant, Nicloe. I like it. You should start a wedding journal. It's a really great place to store all of your ideas. Besides everyone loves to look at them. I welcome you to check mine out. Mine is titled, Kacie and Justin December 30, 2006. I have pics of my bridesmaid dresses, my dress, my dress with me in it and some other stuff.

Nicole~
Welcome to the site. I am getting married Oct 7, 2006. We started planning a little over a year in advance. Word of advice....take advantage of the craft store clearance! Our wedding has a fall theme so I snached up as much as I could. And in my opinion get as much done now as you can. Gives you more time to relax later on. Less stress too, I think.
Best Wishes and I can't wait to hear more about your planning

Hello Nicole, Congrats and Welcome to the board!!
I think you have plenty of time to plan out what you want and to shop around and get it. Personally, I wouldn't book any vendors more than a year in advance of your date ... in fact I know several vendors that won't accept a booking for more than a year out.
As for your BM's dresses, they are very nice. I think it is nice to think of others as far as cost and such. Yes it is YOUR wedding and you should be able to have things the way you want them, but sometimes we have to think of what others involved can do ... or be OK if someone drops out because they cannot afford the dress you picked out. But again, when someone accepts your invite to be 'in' the wedding, they should know and expect that they will have to buy a dress ... if they don't want to or can't then they should decline the part and the bride shouldn't be mad. But you have over a year so that should give people time to save.
However, in the case of your sister (I assume your parents are paying for the wedding and will have to pay for your sister's dress too) the cost of the BM dresses may be an issue because your parents feel that this is just adding more to the money they are already putting up for the wedding. Just a thought.
Sometimes I think paying for a wedding should be just like any other gift ... figure out what you want to spend and give that to the bride and let her do what she needs/wants with it. I think there would be less hassle that way ;)
:goodluck: with everything!

the reason why i had to book everything a year in advance b/c we had to change the dated three times b/c the church was only opened on the 6 and the hall the same thing.

I wouldn't worry too much about booking too early. I booked my photographer and florist in March and they really appreciated it (especially the florist). Our wedding falls on Mother's Day weekend so the florist has plenty of time to find someone to come in and work. Most of the places around here get booked about a year in advance anyways (and we're not in that big of a town).
