I just read that Karen, MOB had a horrible experience at David's Bridal...how funny (as in coincidence, not humor) I had a very bad experience there as well...
The consultant quickly went from bad to worse and I ended up walking out with my Father, Mother, FMIL and FSIL in tow...she followed me into the parking lot...mmmmmmmmm not good!
I ended up contacting the corporate headquarters in I believe Pennsylvannia...I'd have to look at my copy of the letter to be sure, but I ended up with an apology from the district manager and a 50.00 gift certificate...too bad, I wouldn't be back in one of those stores if they were going to outfit my entire wedding party for free after the way that lady treated me (yes I know it wasn't all David's Bridal shops, but once burned twice shy).
Anyway, anyone else had a bad experience with them? Just curious. I ended up getting my dress at Bridal Warehouse in Elizabethtown, Ky and they were SUPER SWEET to me and my family.

I've read the bad experiences about David's Bridal here, but I had a very good experience with them. I bought my dress at David's Bridal in Beaumont, TX. I love the dress and my consultant was super nice and very helpfull. I am going on June 3rd with my bridesmaids to try on their dresses and get them ordered as well. My cousin and my MOH both bought their dresses from David's Bridal in the Houston area when they got married and they had good things to say about them as well.
Like you said, your experience is just one David's Bridal, and truthfully if that would have happened to me I wouldn't have gone back either. I am sure that there are those "bad apples" out there, but I will 100% reccommend the Beaumont, Texas David's Bridal to my friends who are in the market for a wedding dress or bridesmaid dresses.

I was not thrilled with David's Bridal either. My consultant didn't listen to me, kept bringing me dresses with a color that I had already said I didn't like and she jammed $300 worth of stuff on my head all willie nillie - it was so unattactive, I would have never bought it, even if I did want to spend $300 on a headpiece and veil. She also took all the dresses back that I chose and brought them in a bigger size, so I was absolutely swimming in them, instead of just not being able to zip the back the whole way up. Yes, thank you, I'd much rather hold an entire dress up and imagine what it might look like fitted than have it not zip all the way up.
I was so glad to get out of othere when I left.

I had a nice time at David's Bridal. My consultant was very nice. She sat down with me and went through their book of dresses so I could pic out the ones I liked. While she was getting those she sent my mom and I over to look at veils and tiaras to try on. We had a lot of fun. They just didn't have a dress that spoke to me.
I know that my cousins all got their bridal gowns there and had a nice time doing it. And I have bought a couple of bridesmaid dresses there as well with no problems.
I have heard that their seamstresses aren't the best though. I think it is just going to vary by store and manager. I have only shopped at the one location.

Amber818 agrees: I read your post and it was like deja vu! That is basically what happened to us...our consultant was terrible!!
http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_2_206.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm824YYUS)Amber, when I read Stacey's post, I was thinking the same exact thing. I wanted to post something, but I knew you could tell it better than me. Especially after they had the nerve to send you a survey asking you what you thought of their service. You really let me have it in that survey. LOL! Even when we went back for the BM dresses, we had a completely different consultant and we still had poor service. The David's Bridal on Ray Road in Phoenix just sucks!

I had no problem with the David's Bridal here. Thats where I am getting my BM dresses. Although, I am not much for consultants. They seem to get in my way more than they help.

I went to the one at Arrowhead. It was funny though, because I had my dress on, that I bought at Az Mills, and every one of the consultants in the store walked by and commented on it, and loved it, it wasn't one that they had in thier store.

I think it all depends on location. I know how bad service at just one place in a chain of stores can turn you off to them all. Just like a few years ago I quit eating at Corn Dog 7 because of someone who worked there at Deerbrook Mall in Humble, TX had hands that were so dirty you could see the dirt in between the creases in her hands. Yuck! That chain is closed now, but I will not eat at another Corn Dog 7! Sorry for getting off topic.

Do they have a David's Bridal at Arizona Mills? We live practically next door to Arizona Mills. We bought Amber's dress at Arizona Mills, at Group USA.

We already went to the bridal show at the Civic Plaza. I think it was in January. Be prepared, it was packed! Wall to wall people!!

We went to David's Bridal last night and the people were nice except for the alteration lady. The only problem I would say is we had to wait 20 minutes for the lady to come so I could put my dress on and after I got it on, this older lady came by pushing things in my face like tiara, veil, necklace, bracelet, earrings, etc... I was getting really annoyed. Then after all that the lady picked up my three bm's dresses and put them back on the rack. We were purchasing them!
The alteration's lady was a :censored: . She yelled at my neice and I thought it to be really innapropriate and not her place.

Wow! I have heard so many negative stories about David's Bridal. We don't have such a store here in my part of Canada and I am not sure they do any where else, but just from y'alls stories I would definately steer clear of those stores!!!! Sorry everyone had such a horriable experience!!

I have heard bad stuff about the David's Bridal closest to me, but another one that's about forty-five minutes away - I've heard nothing but good things. I'm definitely going to check them out. They are always having $99 dress sales. Plus right now, they're having a sale where every dress is $50 to $200 off. So I do think it just depends on which store you go to, but the one I'm going to try has been said to have a great variety and nice people.

While I didn't personally use David's Bridal, I had to go there to get my MOH dress for my best friend's wedding which is in July. I had a TERRIBLE experience. First, they don't take any checks under series #300, well I was on check # 227, so I had to go to the bank and pull out $200 cash to pay for the dress in a bad neighborhood where I don't like walking around with a dollar in my purse.
Then, when she asked me what size I was, I told her that I just ordered my wedding dress and it was a size fourteen and that most of my jeans were a size twelve. I figured that she would know, working in a dress shop that wedding dresses run small. I also figured she would know whether or not these particular skirts and tops ran small or not. Well, apparently she didn't. She gave me a size fourteen skirt and top. The skirt fell off after I had it zipped on and the top would have been entirely too risque for me to wear out in public (considering it gapped in all the wrong places)! So I tell her these are two big and she brings me a new skirt and top in the same size! So I sent my sister to go get a size smaller in the skirt and two sizes smaller in the top. That worked.
Now that we know the size, we have to order them. We wait at the counter, and wait....and wait....and wait....and wait. There's a woman at the counter, but she's on the phone. Not on an important phone call; I believe she was fighting with her boyfriend. There's a girl in front of us and she's there to order some extra fabric and once someone gets up there (mind you the lady on the phone is still fighting with her boyfried), this person tells the girl in front of me that they can't order extra fabric. The girl in front of me tells the lady that she called up and was told by a particular sales woman that she could. So this is apparently when the lady who came to the counter has to call every sales person in the store to the desk to figure out whether or not this one woman can order extra fabric. It was like a football huddle. They made a few phone calls, found out that they could, and then all stood around and watched as one of them entered the order.
Now mind you, at this point, there's probably about six or seven people behind me, the lady on the phone is still arguing with her husband and the rest of the sales women, with the exception of the one entering the order, is just watching her enter the order. FINALLY, she finishes and I order my dress. Well, she tells me the dress won't be in until May 15. Okay, then let me change my number, so you can call my mother instead of me since I will be on my honeymoon. No, we couldn't do that because we had already entered the order. Well then, I won't be there to pick the dress up for a few weeks. If that happens, they have to charge me a storage fee. Finally I just give up and say, fine, whatever and leave.
A week later, they call to let me know my dress is there. My mother went to pick it up (since we have no David's Bridal's around here I ordered it at one by her) and I made sure she double checked the sizes of the skirt and top. There was a girl who was trying on her ordered skirt and top while I was trying stuff on, and they had ordered four sizes too big. And then they were going to charge her for the alterations, even though she had the order form that proved that they screwed up. I haven't tried it on yet; I've been too busy, but I won't be going back there if there's something wrong, I'll just figure it out on my own.
I have heard nothing but bad stuff about David's. I picked up Bridal Bargains, the book, and it has been so helpful! I'd recommend all brides get this book. It sells in stores for $15, but I got it off amazon for less than $10. This book DOES NOT recommend DB. I stoped by a Group USA, and loved my experience. I have yet to buy my dress, but I will most definitly not buy it from DB.

Contrary to some of the other people, I had a wonderful experience at David's Bridal. Everyone was so nice and helpfull. Perhaps you should just stop buy a David's Bridal in your area. Just because you stop by defiantely does not mean you have to stay or buy your dress from there. The two David's Bridals I have been to have both been really great. I highly recommend those particular stores to anybody who asks.

I have to agree with Kacie. I had a wonderful experience working with David's bridal. I got my wedding dress and all of the bridesmaid dresses there. The lady I worked with was wonderful helping me choose dresses. I would have never thought of trying on the one I bought, so I'm glad I had her to help! I ended up having to deal with 3 different David's Bridal to order all the bridesmaid dresses. All of the stores were very helpful and all of my BMs were happy with the service.

Kacie you are so sweet, you are like a David's Bridal spokesperson!
I wanted to add it would be one thing if we only had one bad experience at David's but in fact we had two bad esperiences. The first on was with our terrible consultant Ally(UGH!) and the second time when we went in for BM dresses. The girl was not helpful we waited forever to leave, we spoke to a manager who just looked at us with a dumb look on her face. I just can't stand the place or the people.
I am glad that other had good experiences though.

Me too Amber, I would never want anyone to go through what I did, I was in tears by the time I got back into the truck. Dad was furious, my mother was torn all to pieces because I was crying and my FMIL and FSIL were mad too!
AAAAAHHHHHHHH not a fun time! Like I said in the initial post I'm sure it isn't all DB's but there does seem to be a trend for the worse...maybe it's their training or hiring procedures.....:bbidea:

we don't have a David's Bridal Here either (canada) but I did have a horrible experience at one shop here called Sophie's Gown shoppe, I walked in there, and was ignored the whole time I was in there??? there were a few other people there, and other people were coming in after and getting help right away, I was looking at some dresses and I heard the one lady go up to a women and ask her if she needed help and when was the big day, she said Jan 2008 friggin JAN 2008, I was there a good hour looking with my one bridesmaid, and not 1 person came up to me, I left there crying, thinking I wasn't good enough for there store,
But we walked to another shop called Nicholas and Elizabeth Bridal, and I was helped as soon as I walked in, I even ordered a dress, then went back in to change the sizing on it, then went back in because I wanted to change my dress, lol but they were so nice, and when I came back in they knew my name... I have been there 5 times, between ording my dress and the bridesmaid dresses...

I just wish everyone could experience what Group USA was like, so that they could compare it to the experience they had at David's Bridal and see the difference for themselves. The best thing about Group USA is that there are no consultants picking out your dresses for you. You pick the dresses you like, you take them to the dressing room, and you try them on. Amber & I had so much fun!!! We would pick about three dresses at a time to take into the dressing room to try on. Then Amber would come out and we would decide what we liked and didn't like about that particular dress, and then I would go searching for the perfect dress again. It was a blast!!
The consultants at David's Bridal ruined the whole wonderful process for us. This consultant was picking out dresses that we didn't even like! When we originally went into David's Bridal, Ally, our consultant, gave us a magazine to look at to pick the dresses from. This magazine was just a sampling of all the dresses that are in that store. Our perfect dress was not in that magazine, and we knew it. We showed Ally some of the dresses that were close to what we liked, and Amber asked her if she wanted to write it down and she said no. She brought us dresses that were not even remotely close to the dresses we picked. She was indifferent, preoccupied, and totally incompetent. Every dress she brought, it got worse and worse. Amber & I just wanted to go and show her the dresses that we like, but you're not allowed to do that at David's Bridal. So Amber & I knew that it was time to leave because this whole thing was futile and we knew it. I think Ally picked up on how we felt, and she said that she didn't have any more dresses to show us. In that whole store, we probably tried on five dresses, and she didn't have any more dresses to show us! OMG, we couldn't get out of that place fast enough! The second time we went in there was with the BM's, we got a different consultant (Thank God!) and I have to tell you that she wasn't near as bad as Ally, but she was still bad. She brought the dresses, and then she left, and we couldn't find her for the rest of the time we were there. We had questions to ask her, but she was nowhere to be found. So we reported her to the manager, and the manager was as incompetent as the consultants in the store were. She just looked at us with a blank look on her face. It was just awful! We finally got a clue and we are NOT buying our flowergirl dress from David's Bridal. NO WAY!
At Group USA, you have the whole store to pick your dress from. There is no limit on the number of dresses that you can try on. You go through the store and grab the dresses you like, and you take them into the dressing room. From me just telling you this, you might not see the fun in that, but I am telling you it is so much fun!!! When you have the whole store to choose your dress from, then of course, your perfect dress is going to be somewhere in that store. They don't rush you or tell you that you been there too long or anything. They just let you have fun with it.
So now Amber & I tell everyone we know what a horrible horrible experience we had at David's Bridal. We tell everyone to go to Group USA if they possibly can.

That does seem awful. However when I was at David's Bridal I got to walk around with my mom and not the consultant. The consultant took the dresses back to the dressing room for me as I picked them out and set them aside. I was allowed to pick as many dresses as I wanted as well. My mom even went back looking while I was in the dressing room to bring more dresses back to me. While I was trying the dresses on the consultant chatted with my mom and answered any questions. She did put a veil and a tiara on my head, but I didn't mind that. It was very pleasant.
Anyway Karen you guys did get the consultant from Hell!!! I would have died if I had that kind of experience. The David's Bridal in your area must be totally different from the David's Bridal in Houston and Beaumont.

Wow, I feel bad for you ladies who had bad consultants. They definatly must differ depending on the area you live in. Like Kacie, we got to walk around and pick out the dresses we liked. I was lucky in the fact that my consultant was so helpful and understood what we were discribing and was able to show us more dresses that we wouldnt' have thought of. I will say, it seems like they work with brides more then bridesmaids. For the most part they just leave the BM to pick and try on the gowns themselves, but I didn't have any problems finding a consultant that would answer questions for us.
I'm glad you ladies did find shops that were willing to work with you and you found the dress of your dreams. That's all that matters, right?!
